I care way more about the 162 (or 163) game season than I do about a post-season tournament. Obviously, I'd love it if my team won a W series once in awhile, but overall, it's about the season for me.
I agree Dozier is better than the defensive metrics say, but got to remember that if you put 20 people in a room and ask them to rate twenty 2Bs on defense, you're going to have, likely, 20 different eye test rankings. I've been a big Dozier fan for a long time, almost since we drafted him, and I don't even think he's an elite defender. I'd say he's slightly above average who makes some outstanding plays on occasion that give Twins fans lots of joy to see and that might skew our eye test opinion of him.
I'd like it to be Hughes, Santana, Gibson, May, Meyer. Won't happen, but I'd like it. I'd think I'd enjoy watching that rotation, even knowing there would be growing pains. Nolasco, Milone and Pelfrey. I have little interest in watching them.
Perhaps you should show where in his post that has him saying he thinks the Twins would actually do that. I don't agree with his preferred mid-season rotation, I'd rather they try and trade Milone and obviously keep Santana, but he didn't say he thought the Twins would actually consider trading Santana this year.
Natural order indeed. HAHA!! Now that he's learned how to throw to the right base and isn't airmailing throws into the stands, yeah it'd be great to have him back. He's turned into a star though, he'd be pricey. I believe he had to leave here to reach his full offensive potential. Wasn't as sad to see him go as I was Span and I was excited about the return for Gomez. Then we had to go and trade Hardy.
I know it doesn't make sense, but I kind of hope we can get him back. He's still fairly young and playing at a decent a good level. Pipe dream, I'm sure, with the youth movement coming in, but one can hope.
Speaking of one of my favorite Twins in recent memory, Denard Span is likely to miss the beginning of the season after having core surgery. This is after he had surgery on his sports hernia in December.
I think we should also give some credit to Plouffe for turning his defense around. He probably deserves the most credit. He's been working hard at it even before Molitor joined the coaching staff.
Couldn't agree more. Wasn't bashing him, just agreeing he made a great play and then a bad one. We SHOULD talk about all of them, right, especially on a thread dedicated to wondering where he will play?
'The rankings take into consideration a mixture of ceiling, readiness and potential playing time allocation' That's not saying he expects them to make the majors this year. Doesn't mean that even if some reliever prospects not mentioned have a better shot to make the majors (potential playing time) they would overcome the five players he mentioned when taking into account ceiling and readiness. Remember he's taking into account all three areas. About Berrios he wrote: 'With the Twins’ pitching depth, it’s possible that the young hurler could begin his big league career in the bullpen and he would have high-leverage potential in that role.' He doesn't say that will be THIS year. And since this is a Rotograph article, maybe his comment had to do with just looking into Plouffe's offense (since fantasy baseball doesn't usually include defense which is part of WAR) compared to actual major leaguers. Not to mention that .03 and .05 WARs are so barely above replacement level might as well be replacement level. WAR puts players into categories and players with .03 and .05 WAR would more likely be grouped with replacement level than any other category. 0-1 WAR is the scrub category.
It was an impressive play! Loved it! Then there was the ball hit right to him that he booted and then threw away. Should have been charged two errors on that one attempt, but was only charged one.
