  1. Does that mesh with the over/under Vegas odds that came out for individual team records? And yeah, I have the Indians winning the division, so time to place a bet now.
  2. gets harder and harder to filter through the BS. I guess it makes no sense just to make it easy and tell the truth so it's easy to remember what was said from interview to interview.
  3. I wonder how many rookies, especially 25 year olds, care if they go to relief or the rotation to start their MLB career as long as it starts.
  4. Suzuki is horrible at framing as well was my point. Never heard Gardy or anyone else on the team point that out. According to Stat Corner and BP , Suzuki is even worse than Pinto.
  5. It's ironic Gardenhire pointed out framing considering who he chose as his starting catcher. Not that framing is important or has a real effect on runs allowed or anything :-)
  6. wait, there's something more important than batting average? :-)
  7. but one is a 'veteran' who 'makes pitchers better' and the other is just a young man who may have a future with the team, one day. It's not like the Twins have a youth movement going on :-) Besides Suzuki figured it out at the plate with his new approach and has most certainly turned the corner and will continue to have the same kind of results he had last year. :-)
  8. I don't do Facebook or twitter, and I'm perfectly happy :-)
  9. I believe my guess was actually 6 years in the 40M area. Earlier I wrote: 'I'd guess Dozier will get something like 6 years/in the 40-45 range'
  10. -What are your thoughts on Funkhouser? Kiley McDaniel: Seen him 5 or 6 times. Without fail, every time he’s been 91-95 t97, 55-60 SL, 50 CH, command flashes 50, solid chance to be #3 starter, but still some feel issues here and there. I’d guess 8-15 in the first round if he keeps this up. That was actually my question in the chat. I asked a followup, but no response. I will ask the followup next week. - Who would be the best comp. for Brendan Rodgers? Kiley McDaniel: Not an easy one, but the people that like him note some similarities to Tulo. Generally similar to last year’s top prep SS, also from Orlando area, Nick Gordon…but Rodgers is a RHH, has more bat speed/power, less physical projection and less arm…so more just generally the same caliber of player than really the same This KIND of sounds like he's comparing Gordon to Tulo. Let's hope.
  11. Hicks wRC+ in Sept/Oct of 2014 was 91. Dozier's career wRC+ is 100, and last year it was 118. ZiPS projections has Dozier at 104 for 2015. ZiPS projections has Hicks at 82 for 2015.
  12. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/brian-dozier-and-extensions-for-position-players/ 'Brian Dozier is an ideal candidate for an extension. He has had two solid years in a row, including his breakout in 2014. He is set to make just around the minimum of $507,500 this season, making this spring an opportune time to work out a deal before he hits arbitration after the year.'
  13. I don't think anyone is saying that all agents specifically take a players WAR and says he has this WAR therefore he needs this much. Especially when you know how they come up with the value.
  14. Framing is a myth :-) Last night I was watching a tidbit on Yadier Molina and how Cardinals pitchers numbers were MUCH better with him catching than without and he is considered a quality framer (along with just an overall great defensive catcher). Having said that, lots of things effect pitching across the board including the defense behind them. As far as scouting pitching prospects, I believe what you are talking about is why scouts put more value on swinging strikeouts as opposed to called strikeouts.
  15. this should get interesting. got to get some popcorn.
  16. That's the risk for practically every player, isn't it?
  17. I understand that. Let me ask you this. Let's say we pay him whatever he's getting this year. Then he hits arbitration the next couple years before we sign him to a three year contract extension before his last year before FA(assuming he accepts just three year extension at that point, which I doubt). If he performs as well as he did last year, or as well as 2013 (or somewhere in between), think that will end up costing us more or less than just giving him 6/52 now? Think the prices will stay the same waiting three years (while hoping he'' accept a 3 year extension at that point)? Prices go nothing but up unless he just takes a dive, which I doubt.
  18. I haven't been here that long, and what about the .479 slg% with RISP part? Let's look at that. Last year there were 209 players who had 400 or more plate appearances for the season. Only 29 had a better slg% than .479. #29 was Puig at .480. It's fair to know that most hits in general are singles, whether that be with RISP or not, for all players across the board. He is not uncommon in that regard as far as hits with RISP.
  19. especially when the guys we hope are going to be worth big money some day haven't even accumulated a year's service time in the majors, meaning they won't be worth big money (if even good enough) any time soon...past the time Mauer's money comes of the books :-) I'd guess Dozier will get something like 6 years/in the 40-45 range.
  20. Yeah, I'm not suggesting we pay him 120M over 6 years in an extension. I'm saying if he's given a contract worth less than 9M a year over 6 years, that will be a good deal especially when you consider what he's been worth the last couple years and the fact that the last two years would be FA years. And prices aren't going DOWN they are going UP. Think in two years if he's still producing like he is he'll sign for less than 9M a year? But we could just trade him now, hoping an unproven prospect can take his place and produce a 4-5 WAR right out the gate :-)
  21. my numbers are based on what is paid in free agency for the amount of WAR he's produced. So I will continue to use those values when talking about contract extensions and/or free agent contracts.
  22. Dozier's last two years combined was worth 39M. If the Twins can get him for 6 years at 52M, they should do it. He could very well exceed the value in his first 4 years.
  23. Tyler DuffEy went to a pretty well regarded baseball college and is already 24. I hope they move him through fairly quickly. He's got the traditional Twins combo going as well, not a lot of Ks and not a lot of walks. :-)
  24. Dozier was worth almost 40M the last two years combined (slightly more than what Span has been worth over the same time period) and Dozier only turns 28 this season.
  25. I've not heard anyone say the best division in baseball is the AL Central. That's an interesting view when you consider the NL Central and the AL West. I, personally, believe there are two groups in our division. The first being the Indians, as the front runner , with the Tigers and Royals battling for 2nd and close to the Indians. Then there is the White Sox and then the Twins.
