  1. TR has set the bar so low, there are actually people happy about this one minuscule move that could very likely do nothing to improve our bullpen. I can't ever remember him ever doing anything at the deadline that made me even close to excited. Team chasing us gets arguably the best pitcher on the trade market and the best position player on the market.(Tulo, not Revere:-))
  2. Span was a 3.4 WAR with the Nats his first year.
  3. Maybe the fact that all we did was 'a very minor trade' might be the problem most of us have as opposed to the Blue Jays, the team chasing us, going all out and the team above us in the division, also going nuts.
  4. 43% inherited runners score this year. 35% last year. Twins 2015 bullpen: 34%(as of last night when I checked).
  5. Watching MLB Network and they were talking about the trade deadline and that there still may be major deals coming with 40 something minutes left. One of the hosts asked, 'Bigger than Jepsen to the Twins?' and they started chuckling. Last night they were talking about how it just didn't seem possible that with being in a playoff race, they was like no chatter about the Twins for anyone. Especially when you consider the team that are going big like Houston, KC and Toronto. Not exactly big spenders and two not exactly big movers. This is the rep we have. It's well earned. Earlier they were talking about teams over-valuing their prospects and how there is no W Series for best farm system. Then, while continuing to marvel at the Twins doing practically nothing, they said there are these teams chasing the Twins who are apparently a juggernaut so they don't need to get anyone.

  7. Jepsen has allowed 43% of inherited runs to score and 35% last year. 43% is 9% more than our bullpen, as a whole, has allowed.
  8. I'd argue that getting those three pitchers (two coming off injury and/or surgery, one not posting an ERA in the NL under 4.18 in three previous seasons, and all of them cheap), didn't come close to qualifying as doing everything he could to significantly improve the 2013 rotation. That's scrape the bottom of the barrel type shopping that, extremely predictably, did not come close to working out.
  9. 3 teams have allowed a higher percentage of inherited runners to score than the Twins (Twins have allowed 34% to score) and only one team has allowed more actual inherited runners to score. Sorry, you said you didn't want to know. :-)
  10. who hires, fires and evaluates the scouts for the team? If they are bad at it, they need to be gone.
  11. remember the offseason before the 2013 season when he told the season ticket holders and possible season ticket holders in their annual banquet that he would do everything possible to significantly improve the rotation for 2013 and he went and got Worley, Pelfrey and Correia? Man of his word.
  12. Perhaps active shoppers (though not surprisingly no rumors to speak of as MLB Network pointed out tonight, so who knows), but inactive actual buyers.
  13. I might use the word perhaps instead of probably, but other than that I concur.
  14. Instead they just move him to the bullpen and use him in completely low leverage situations :-)
  15. I'll reserve concurrence until we see him go into the 8th in a tight situation. These no leverage spots don't tell me much. But, hopefully, if they are going to keep him there they use him when it counts.
  16. The bar has been set so low by this team over the years that any small move seems acceptable. Blue Jays are going for it big time because they are within striking distance and haven't been in the playoffs for quite some time. They get Donaldson (arguably the best overall 3B in the game and a MVP candiate) in the offseason who they have for years. Then they Tulo (arguably best shortstop, having a down year) at the deadline and have him for years. Then they get Price (Ace by any standard). We're likely standing pat.
  17. I'm glad Sano looked good but one game doesn't tell us anything. I'm rooting for him though. and what a great game to see!
  18. this site is freaking out on me (like it often does). I quoted someone else when I responded to that and it didn't show up :-)
  19. I would hope they'd play him.
  20. That and this has been his best month with overall OPS going into tonight. So why would a manager walk Hicks to get to Mauer when Mauer has been hitting very well with RISP all year. Because Hicks had a great game and walking him sets up a force at 3B, 2B (and, as always 1B) for out #3. And it didn't work anyway.
  21. did you forget the part where I said AND pay attention to defensive strategy. I have no doubt he's watched plenty of baseball.
  22. 'There are two common situations in which an intentional walk may be a good idea. The first is to bypass a strong hitter who may have been having a good game. If there is a runner on second base and a good hitter comes to the plate, it is not uncommon for him to be intentionally walked so as to set up a force out.' Hicks has been very good lately and was having a good game. Check. He was walked and it set up a force out. Check. And they aren't talking about setting up a double play in that because if you read the story linked, where the above quote comes from, the second common is to set up a double play. http://www.thecompletepitcher.com/intentional_walks.htm
  23. yes it does. You need to watch more baseball besides the Twins and pay attention to defensive strategy.
  24. Mauer has been IBB 10 times this season in only 100 games. Only 5 batters in baseball have more and only 2 others have 10. What does that tell you about what managers think?
