  1. well, like you said Dozier can play defense, so I think it'll be better than Uggla. He also has that extra something. some leadership ability. I do wish he hit better with RISP.
  2. 'Tell me before the season that you wouldn't be surprised if someone told you that Pelfrey through 20 starts would have a 3.65 ERA with a 4.05 FIP. Pretty much your average mid rotation starter, which I'm sure anyone would be pleasantly surprised with before the season.' I don't care at all about the ERA stat, so that wouldn't have mattered at all. Pelfrey's FIP is not good, but that's one stat. Out of 91 qualifying starting pitchers he's 64th in FIP, 91st (dead last) in strikeouts, 91st in K/9IP(dead last), 83rd in xFIP, 76th in WHIP, tied for 63 in WAR, 59th in BB/9IP He only has 11 quality starts. He has been well, WELL, below average and nowhere near good.
  3. and, in the case of Correa, positional difference.
  4. I was out of pocket for a bit having surgery. Thought maybe he was moved back and I hadn't heard.
  5. I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea that pelfrey has been a pleasant surprise and has done well.
  6. I'm guessing he'll go to the Angels.
  7. I have enjoyed this season. We've been able to see a lot of youngsters, we are still in the playoff hunt , and we'll win around 74, 75 games. It's an improvement and I'm happy with that. Yes, I wish more had been done at the deadline and there have been some moves I really had issues with, but overall, it's been a fun season.
  8. I didn't say he did. I said his post seemed to suggest he was saying that. He and I have cleared up the discussion.
  9. you and I are in step with our opinion on Dozier. I've been driving his bandwagon since well before he even hit the majors. As far as Tulo goes had one month where he was just unbelievably bad. We have a lot of data from Tulo performance to let us know that was a huge outlier. wRC+ in the 60s? Yeah, that's not normal and it's really dragged him down. The next month was more like him. I'm not worried about him, as he moves farther away from when he had the surgery. He's looking fine now.
  10. I'm watching Intentional Talk on MLB Network They are interviewing possibly the new best shortstop in baseball, Carlos Correa. He was talking about how he acted like a kid when Tulo signed and put a message on a bat for him.
  11. 12.1 for Tulo, 10.8 for Dozier. So close for sure. I am not knocking Dozier. I love Dozier, but this year is way out of whack for how Tulo normally performs. This year is definitely an outlier for him. Not normal for a guy to have a WAR over 5.0 two years in a row and below 2 the next. Also, it's not like Toronto is a pitcher's park either. If you want to think Dozier is better, that's fine.
  12. You're nitpicking with semantics. You and others know what I mean. Comparing players by one year of WAR is not a good idea. It does tell us what they have done this year, true, but the post I responded to made it seem like he was saying Dozier is a better player than Tulo and as much as I love Dozier, IMO that's not true. I doubt any supposed expert would say Dozier is and I imagine most Twins fans, who don't have homer goggles on, also wouldn't say that either. If Tulo comes back next year with a season like this and Dozier continues to rock, maybe that conversation changes, but I doubt that happens (but hope it does).
  13. Assuming May is ever allowed to return to the rotation and/or stay in the rotation.
  14. Cubs have some decent pitching in the minors. Edwards, Johnson and, a bit farther away, Underwood could be the best of the bunch.
  15. As a baseball fan, I'm just glad we have so many fantastic young players in baseball right now. It really seems like it's been a long time since we've had so many. I'd rather applaud that and enjoy them instead of worrying about how national pundits compare our teams young talent to others.
  16. I'm glad you think our future roster is the best of the bunch. You could be right.
  17. For those who really want to know why there are differences between B-Ref's WAR and Fangraphs WAR (as opposed to those who want to see the differences and conclude its invalid because there are differences). http://www.fangraphs.com/library/war/differences-fwar-rwar/
  18. Fangraphs and he's actually tied for18th with Dozier and McCutchen, even though he's played quite a bit less. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0
  19. There are people who still put a lot of value in stats like BA. I don't know why when there much better stats to rate a player, but there are some who will stick to the basics.
  20. About as short-sighted as basing talent level on one season of WAR
  21. They are calculated differently. I prefer Fangraphs
  22. except that was specifically about making moves for a playoff push this year. They haven't knocked the Twins farm system and they have been saying great thing are coming.
  23. Did they move him out of the pen?
  24. I agree. The FO definitely SHOULDN'T be making that decision.
  25. Who is on the 25 man roster and the 40 man roster is, in the end, the decision of the GM. The manager gives input, certainly (some more than others depending on the GM and the Manager)but the GM makes the call. Then the manager deals with how to manage the 25 man roster given to him. Though I'm sure when it comes to jerking around starters, he consults with the GM :-)
