  1. First, we don't now if that's true. Players CAN be extended. Second, it's never a bad time to make your team stronger. This idea that we can magically predict when we'll be competitive again in order to start trading for (or signing) quality players is just wrong. That year turned out to be this year. Not sure if it continues next year.
  2. How small of a sample size do we count take into account? If we go by 400 or more PAs, Mauer is 2nd in BA and 1st in OBP. If we go by 300 or more PAs, Mauer is 3rd in BA and 2nd in OBP. Is that far enough down the PA ladder? More than half the PAs he had? If we go by 200 or more PAs, Mauer is 4th in BA, still 2nd in OBP. If we go by 100 or more PAs, Mauer is still 4th in BA, still 2nd in OBP. And this was an extreme off year for him.
  3. quality relievers have been getting multiple years and it seems TR is reluctant to do more than one year. We may get a reliever down the road through FA, but of the few top quality relievers left, I doubt any sign for just one year. We'll pick through the scraps after all the big dogs eat, like normal.
  4. By the way you wrote that, I think you're being sarcastic, but not quite sure. So I'll do two responses. If it was sarcastic: Yeah, I know, crazy idea. If it wasn't: Two seasons ago, we didn't know the injuries to Sano or Buxton would happen. Even so, I think it would have been a sound strategy especially when one considers how often prospects fail and considering the talent we had in the majors. With so many supposedly quality prospects, they could have traded some to try and get better proven players. Like you said, we may end up losing some guys who had trade value a couple years ago for nothing.
  5. You're right, but IMO the time to start using our supposedly awesome farm system to get proven players was about two seasons ago
  6. Old Joe will be 33 next year, Park (part of our future, I guess) turns 30 during next season and hasn't played a professional game at any level for any MLB organization yet. People are quick to just figure Park is MLB starter quality before doing anything as a MLBer.
  7. Beltran was an outstanding offensive and defensive CF most of his career. He has a career OPS+ over 120, and has accumulated 66 WAR. IMO, he deserves to be in. If he cares about getting in (and I'm not sure every player does) he is hurting his chances by continuing to play.
  8. If Kershaw pitches two more years anywhere close to how he has so far, he could retire after 10 years and make it first ballot HOFer. 2.43 ERA (FIP 2.62), 154 ERA+, 3 CY Youngs (and 5 times in top 3 of CY Young voting).4 times leading in ERA, 3 times ERA+, 3 times leading in Ks, 2 times leading in Wins, 2 times in FIP, 4 times in WHIP. 7 straight seasons with an ERA under 3.00. He's a lock. I think Felix could very well be a lock too.
  9. Well, thing is, if he pitched in TF for us he wouldn't be able to face our lineup. For his career, he has faced 10 teams 10 or more times and of those 10 teams, his best ERA (for those who like that stat, couldn't find the info in FIP) is against the Twins. :-) In fact, he owns the ALC.
  10. I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea that Nunez has been a pretty good defender. And I'm not convinced one decent season consisting of 200 or so PAs means he's pretty good with the bat either. Between Santana and Nunez, how about neither and we look for a better option?
  11. Same can be said of hitters.
  12. This is an interesting if not premature exercise. I imagine IF (BIG IF) any of our players end up being worth of a massive contract, it will be Sano and I imagine it will be done by whomever replaces TR.
  13. Yes, it is titled that way, but the author of this thread in his OP 'What do you think Mike Trout's chances are of being the best (or one of the best) players ever? So I answered yes he does. I think he has a good chance.
  14. It's why no player who spends any significant time in Colorado will be a HOFer. It's unfair, really. Some great players will be discarded because of it (Larry Walker, Helton, Holliday, Tulo) Holliday has easily dis-proven the idea he was a product of Coors Field and it's not like his away numbers, while with the Rockies, weren't really good too. They were.
  15. This is a thing I read a lot along with the idea that his ERA would have been lower if he didn't complete so many games (and one might say those scenarios often occurred at the same time). Both of those narratives seem to be put in serious question when you consider that his ERA from innings 7-9 was better than between 1-3 or 4-6. Also, about his playoff heroics go, I think people remember those great W Series but forget the bad ones. His playoff ERA is 3.80. HIS ALCS ERA is close to 5.00.
  16. 142 OPS+ in St Louis, 131 in Colorado.
  17. The help from Coors can be tossed aside, or should, due to the fact he's actually been better in St Louis. In any event, he definitely won't make it, but if he had played in Boston he would for sure (Jim Rice).
  18. Buehrle, ERA+ of 116. Jack Morris ERA+ of 105. And for some reason, Glavine (who I always compare to Buehrle) was a first ballot HOFer with a 118 ERA+. Likely due to the narrative about the Big Three.
  19. I wish Holliday would get more consideration. Career BA over .300, career OBP in the .380s, OPS in the 900s. OPS+ close to 140. Proved his talent wasn't about Coors Field. In 12 years he's gotten to the AS game 7 times, gotten votes in the MVP voting 8 times (and should have win it in 2007). Very under-rated ball player. Much better version of Jim Rice.
  20. We don't even know for sure if Park will be able to perform as a major leaguer. I wouldn't count on him doing anything yet. Sano could stay as primary DH with Plouffe at 3B and Mauer staying at 1B.
  21. Cuddyer gave his all, was a team player, got the most out of his talent, and was well liked. I enjoyed watching him use that arm in RF.
  22. About your list, it's a list that promotes good discussion. Few thoughts on it: I don't think Bumgardner is a shoo-in at all, he's a quality pitcher, and he had a legendary W Series performance in 2014, but he doesn't have a CY nor has he been in top 3 in voting, He's never led the league in ERA, Ks, IP, ERA+, Wins, Etc. All the things that get looked at, whether I agree with all of that or not. If Mussina can't get in (and he likely won't though he should) I doubt Bums deserves it. I think Weaver has zero chance. I think Trout will definitely get in unless he just crashes and burns, which I can't see happening. I think Molina will definitely make it. If you value defense (both throwing guys out and calling a game), he's likely a top 5 catcher ever. He's the Ozzie Smith of catchers. I think Mauer should for what he accomplished as a catcher, but he likely won't now due to his drop-off unless he can come back strong. ARod and Braun likely won't due to PED stuff and in ARod's case, one can add the media dislike for him as well. Stanton will very likely make it unless he just drops off a cliff. His talent is too strong. Tulo won't due to the Coors Field bias.
  23. Griffey Jr IS one of the greatest players of all time. He's a shoo-in first ballot HOFer.
  24. I'd say pretty good chance of being one of the best.
  25. Why would the Yankees fans care about what Girardi said about a guy they traded? Have you ever heard a manager dog out a traded prospect?
