  1. this team is completely rebuilt? Don't see that. Also, when you look at how much rebuilding has been done, is it all due to him and was it all done just since he has been back?
  2. No, he was NOT a good signing. 0.5 WAR, bad defense and weeeeeellll below average offense for a RF. He had a 90 wRC+. That was good for 22nd out of 23 qualifying RFs. If you extend that to RF with 450 or more PA we get 27 RF, and he'd rank 26th in wRC+.
  3. The Nolasco, Hughes and Santana signings are not big signings in today's market. Going rate for #3 type pitcher. Just because they are big signings for US (Ryan), doesn't mean we can break out the big spender label for him. And I can't imagine this team as constructed will double down on the luck from last year and be competitors this year. I think that's, um, wishful thinking at best.
  4. I was sitting in U.S History class watching it on TV.
  5. And if Cruz, as opposed to a former star Twin, had been paid 10M and only produced 0.5 WAR, more people would be willing to admit that it was a horrible signing.
  6. Pure blind unrealistic optimism
  7. Pelfrey had a better FIP, xFIP, K/9, BB/9 in the 2nd half last year than he did in the 1st half. The difference might have been the huge jump in BABIP.
  8. Suzuki had a half a season of being good, somewhat, offensively. 1.9 WAR over two season.
  9. Radke had a career ERA+ of 113 and Glavine 118. The idea that Glavine was a first ballot, slam dunk Hall of Famer while Radke fell off the ballot completely after one vote stems from judging pitchers on win totals, and Atlanta's 'Big Three' narrative. I might argue Radke was every bit the pitcher Glavine was, especially when you consider how much Glavine was helped by getting an extra 3 inches on each side of the plate.
  10. Not sure we should be counting of the same amount of wins getting us near a W Card. Probably should also remember that this team, while winning 83 games last year, wasn't really a team with the talent/performance to win 83 games. They outplayed their BaseRuns by over 10 games and their Pythag by 2. Advantageous sequencing which I loved but wouldn't expect to repeat. So far, they haven't improved the rotation or the bullpen and perhaps not even the lineup/defense.
  11. along with attempting to put together a 'just good enough' offense, 'just good enough' defense, and 'just good enough' rotation. Just got to ask ourselves, good enough for what, exactly?
  12. Wishful thinking for sure.
  13. I wonder how much offense Sano is going to have to provide to be a 6 WAR player at any position when you consider defense is taken into account.
  14. Smith did some spending. Lost bad one year. Wanted to spend. Got reassigned.
  15. Problem is that perhaps what some consider ' overpaying' is actually going rate.
  16. Other than simply wanting to give the team the benefit of the doubt at practically every turn, not sure how one could possibly come to that conclusion/belief.
  17. One can be disgusted with how this team is run, from GM to ownership, and still love the team that goes out there and plays on the field.
  18. I'll believe the notion we will see unprecedented spending from the Twins when I see it. Question is, who will be GM when those three are hopefully deserving of such spending?
  19. If those strikeouts become outs of another sort, it doesn't much matter. Considering he had a BABIP in the .330s and still couldn't score an OBP in the .300s, we could see a bigger dropoff in his OBP if/when his BABIP normalizes.
  20. I like Rosario, but I'm not sure how Rosario set his offensive bar high last year in the majors. When you have an OBP under .290, that's hardly a high bar.
  21. 'It's a big win to retain all of our top prospects this off season.' Well, it's very, very, VERY predictable we retained all of our top prospects this offseason. Did anyone think even for a second Ryan would trade any of them? I'm not sure one could call it a big win. Pretty easy to just stand pat and do nothing in regards to them.
  22. Halloumi is a Cypriot cheese made of goat and Sheep milk. What I love about it is that is can be grilled or fried and, because it has such a high melting point, it still maintains most of its form. I enjoyed it a lot in breakfast sandwiches or just to nibble on after I grilled it.
  23. Halloumi is my favorite cheese ever. fantastic flavor and a versatile cheese.
  24. So his money will go farther spending half his season in Minnesota as opposed to New York. Cost of living, property (if one decided to buy), etc.
