  1. and he's kind of shaped like Homer Simpson too.
  2. I found it funny when he won MVP over Pujols. He wasn't even the most valuable player on his own team that year. Funny thing is, next year, Rollins won MVP when he didn't deserve it while also not being the most valuable player on his own team.
  3. So I went to the Ogden Raptors home opener. It was a good time. They are part of the Pioneer League, the second lowest rung in Pro baseball. Their catcher has a cannon. Easily threw out all 4 would be base steelers of 2B. One guy stole 3B but he did that against the pitcher. Catcher had no chance.
  4. Littlefinger started this whole thing and basically controls the strongest army. If he somehow becomes Warden of the North, he'll basically control 2 of the 7 kingdoms.
  5. Does it have to be a starter?
  6. He hasn't played enough 3B at the MLB level to really consider him for the spot. Perhaps down the line, yeah. And yeah, looking at how many spots we'd be 3rd or 5th would be sad.
  7. Whether or not it's the players, team philosophy or player development (or likely a combo of all three) I think a lot of teams have much more talented rosters than us. It's a poorly constructed roster TR has put together which is low on MLB talent/MLB ready talent. I'm pretty sure we don't have one player who would be on an all AL Central team. Definitely not one that would start. That's horrible. )
  8. I think TR has clearly shrugged off the over-valuing defense tendency.
  9. For all the complaints about this show, they have done a fantastic job taking a ton of material and streamlining it for the show. If they followed everything to do with the book it would take 30+ years and no one would care about most of the middle years. Yes, they've had to cut some things and they've changed some things, but it's still a great story. I've really only been bothered by one plot change. It's one of the best shows of all time and easily the best of it genre.
  10. Well, it's what the director said when he was asked where Ghost was during the battle. We've also seen ghost since Jon's murder, we've seen him after he came back to life.
  11. He would have been slaughtered in that mangled group of bodies. I also believe, though not sure, that he was left at castle black. Not sure I remember him leaving with Jon when he left the castle. Edit, after reading up, the director said it was between the Giant and Ghost for screen time and he chose the giant. So I guess he is with Jon, just wasn't in the battle (which, again, I think is a good thing. He would have been toast)
  12. Ghost and Nymeria are the only two direwolves that are still alive.
  13. ain't no party like a millennial party cause a millennial party don't stop!
  14. Took Ryan 7-8 years to rebuild last time. Mark your 2020 calendars people! Then again, many people with seemingly unlimited faith in Ryan's ability and moves were pretty sure that, after last year's record, the rebuilding was practically done and this year the younin's would sweep in and that would be the start of something awesome. Ryan got us there early, see he can do it. Yeah, unfortunately (and predictably), not so much.
  15. Yes, a lot of the guys we are counting on, and are well thought of, came onto the team under Smith. Trying to remember all the prospects Smith traded away. There was Ramos and, um. Seriously, can't remember the rest. I'm sure they're all all stars by now. I guess it's just easier to blame Ryan's hand picked successor for everything.
  16. We had very advantageous sequencing last year. Nobody on offense really exceeded expectations but the sequencing helped us be 8th in the AL in runs scored even though we were last in OBP, 13th in OPS, 14th in wRC+ and 14th in WAR (position players). That kind of luck should never be expected to repeat.
  17. Since Santana mostly plays CF, he should be compared to CFs. Santana has an okay arm for an OF. Nothing special. And, really, his speed being an argument for him is over-stated. Just like Revere's speed in CF didn't make him a good CF, Santana's speed doesn't make him a good CF. And on the offensive side of the ball, his speed isn't doing anything for him as far as stealing bases go, and it sure doesn't help when he can't get on base at a decent clip. When speed is your only tool, that's a problem.
  18. Good refresher on how that conversation went. I don' think it was hard to look at him and see that very little weight was lost and that he was way too big. I did find it funny when Morris said this, 'I look at this team and I know they are going to score runs. I don't worry at all about that quite honestly. And I know the yare going to catch the ball. Even with Miguel Sano in right field, they're going to catch the ball.' I sure didn't agree with that assessment when it was said. And it's turned out to not be true. Horrible in every stage of the game, to include just fundamental mishaps all over the place.
  19. Over-rated, the lot of um. :-)
  20. Nor did the Cubs in the 80s. Devils advocate. A lot less playoff spots available back in the day, but your point still stands.
  21. Ok, so, Santana doesn't just play CF. He's plays corners too. If Santana was gone instead of Arcia, all that would mean is that Buxton and Kepler would be 1-2 for CF with Arcia taking a corner spot when he played (or LH DH). So, instead of Buxton, Santana, Kepler and Grossman, it'd be Buxton, Arcia, Kepler and Grossman. Leaves two people who can play CF and 4 OF who can play corner (with Rosario eventually, who can also play all 3 spots) It's not that hard to figure out why people are asking why are we keeping Santana over Arcia.
  22. Fangraphs has Buxton at +2 DRS (I don't know what DFS is). And Grossman looks horrible on D. Slow, bad arm, bad routes. To answer your question about Grossman, his poor range (-5) is the real kicker, and that's what is contributing the most to his -7. Additionally, none of these numbers surprise me. The numbers are relative to position. For example, one couldn't look at a RF and a CF having the same DRS and conclude they were equals on defense.
  23. Or was the real problem getting Park because, goodness forbid, Sano stay a DH since he's likely a defensive detriment no matter what position he plays. In any event, Our RF situation was a easily predictably bad decision. It was never going to end up being a smart or truly defensible decision (no matter how hard some tried).
