    There really is no reason for a team to offer a QO now. An 18M roll of the dice to get a 1st round pick is fine. For lower round picks, why bother dangling that kind of money?

    Mmm, I have a homemade dutch apple pie waiting for me at home. Honeycrisp apples (my favorite) were the apples used in the pie. Btw, and off topic, i tried butter pecan ice cream for the first time this weekend. amazing.

    I don't disagree a FA signing is able to be done quicker than a trade, especially for a player like Castro whose price tag shows he wasn't sought after too aggressively by other teams even if there were other offers by other teams (kind of like how we got outbid other teams for Park but still managed to get him for really not that much)..

    That wasn't the question though. I am, in no way, suggesting they should have done any trades so far. I'm asking whether or not Castro should have been their top priority from the get-go as was stated in the OP (which was just Nick's opinion, though he said it was obviously their top priority). I have never dogged out this signing.

    And if you believe Hunter's veteran leadership was the reason we did so well in 2015, why didn't it have 'a lasting impact for even this year'? Please don't take these posts as attacks, I'm just asking questions. I respect your opinion, and agree to a point, just not to the degree you do.

    I don't really think circumstantial evidence supports it unless one first believes in it to begin with. And actually, I'm claiming it was awesome sequencing we did as well as we did. We were 8th in the AL for runs, but only 14th in wRC+, 15th in OBP, and 12th in slugging %. That doesn't mesh. On top of that, we were 12th in fielding. Of course, the pitching was better. Not sure how a position player (not a catcher) effects the pitching staff. We went 20-7 in May (.741 winning %) and our winning % the rest was 63-72. If the 27 game May had been a 14-13 month (which would still be better than all but one of the other 5 months of the season), Twins record is.......76-86. And I'm sure there is something to veteran leadership. I have never said there isn't. I doubt it's enough to make a low 70ish win talent team into a 83 win talent team.

In the article this was said '.It has been evident that Castro was the team's top priority from the get-go' Assuming we understanding FA isn't the only way to get players, how does everyone feel about Jason Castro being the team's top priority as opposed to say trading for some quality pitching prospects (or however else they want to go about improving the pitching)?

    IMO, Sale isn't the kind of guy we should target. We'd only have him for three years then he'd be gone. I don't want to bet on us being competitive during that time and that's what we'd be doing with a trade like that.

    Probably best just to stop using WAR and go back to using wins, RBI, save, ERA and fielding % to figure out value for players. You know, the perfect stats that need no caveats :-)

    Yeah, I think most fans of most teams wouldn't consider signing a player like Castro to be a bold or strong move, their bar is set higher. And quite a few people agreed, so apparently that point of view isn't too off the wall. You have a problem with that opinion, fine. I respect that. But you don't respect the other point of view because it disagrees with yours. So what do you do? You do what you always do, which is attack the person/people who disagree with you by labeling them, in this case as obstinate or trolling. Not sure what you think you are accomplishing by doing this, other than making yourself believe your opinions are always superior, but it sure doesn't invite open discussion.

    That is NOT a fact. Please Prove that his presense is what caused us to do what happened in 2015. It is a logical fallacy called post hoc ergo propter hoc. We had one incredible month in May. Our runs scored for the season was way out of whack with our actual offensive stats.
