  1. I think that last point is great, and I always love it when evaluators (including ourselves) take time to let our criteria be known. For myself, I lean a little too far towards the potential role for the major league team, which gives me an odd bias towards mid-rotation starters and toolsy position players.
  2. I guess what I was trying to say is that there is very little precedent for players actually 'learning' strike zone judgement, so the only real choice you have is seeing if they can learn to use the opposite field.
  3. I think one reason that it is more important for Arcia to learn to use the whole field is that he apparently has no clue where the outside of the strike zone is and, from his career W:SO rates, it looks like he never has. This is quite different from many of the other sluggers that have been listed (Willingham, Ortiz, Dunn, etc). Until he learns either better strike zone judgement or to drive the ball the other way, he will continue to be a low BA, sub-.800 OPS guy. That is not to say he wouldn't still be a very useful player... Jacque Jones never did learn how to hit left-handers or lay off sliders in the dirt and was an integral part of our success in the millenia's first decade!
  4. I think we need to remove the 'very' from that last sentence. Rosario will be 23 shortly after the season... the same age the 'slow' progressing Aaron Hicks was when he had his breakout AA campaign. (As a aside, I buy age differential for A-ball, but not for AA or AAA when the average age is 25 and 27 years old! An 'average' prospect is NEVER that old in those leagues!) While I do agree that Rosario has time, his lack of position and speed already have him on a slippery slope. I agree with Diehard that he is likely to fall quite a ways on the prospect lists. Would it be too much to say that I hope he can avoid a Hans Gruber-like fall off of the Nakatomi building?
  5. Now maybe you are talking about Tyler Duffy? Tomshaw was the one who faced 20 batters in 3 innings!
  6. Posted Today, 11:17 AM If the Twins don't sign Suzuki, who catches in 2015? If anyone can answer that question with a legitimate answer, I'd be surprised. Would Josmil Pinto be surprised to find out he is 'illegitimate'... how about his parents?
  7. Thanks, I knew I was missing somebody! SD... This wasn't meant as reality, just a show of young arms! It's amazing that it is even possible after losing 3 young arms (Romero, Rosario and Landa) that were all top-30 prospects. TINSTAAPP is for real!
  8. Hyperbole aside... He wasn't 'injured', but listen to Seth's story (on Hang Out and talk Twins) about the rigamarole he had to go through just to get on the field. Sometimes they have to put horses down, too.
  9. I agree... Wouldn't you love to see CR compete for a playoff spot with a rotation of: Slegers Stewart Thorpe Hu Jorge
  10. Not saying that the Alex Meyer treatment would be bad here, but... I thought Meyer's situation was that he felt a twinge in the shoulder when he woke up in the morning, not that he experienced tightness while on the mound. Does anyone else remember the specifics?
  11. I often wonder if being 'released' is at the behest of the releasee. At some point (even during the season) you may realize that physical limitations make realizing your dream impossible, and you just say 'enough'.
  12. Soooo does Nick Burdi still throw hard?
  13. ... and do you really want your up-and-coming studs (May, Meyer, and maybe Berrios next year) pitching to someone they may not have confidence in? Young pitchers have a hard enough time throwing strikes and not nibbling on the corners.
  14. I'm not a moderator, but could you two boys take it outside and not take over every update in which Walker does something of note?
  15. This x10! While many on TD are downgrading Stewart's stock because of the lack of SO, he seems to be flying up the charts of other talent evaluators. At 19, I doubt there are many pitchers ahead of Stewart on the list that are 19 years old (and not named Lucas Giolito)!
  16. ...and you think Gardy makes out that list?
  17. Video on Rock Cats TV showing an Aaron Hicks single from 7/12 against RIGHT-HANDED pitcher Kyle Simon (ignore the sub-title that says it is a double, Hicks goes to second on the throw home). He is batting LEFT-HANDED. Can we finally put it to rest? http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=34543869&sid=t538 Sorry, after using the link I see you will have to scroll over to the correct video clip (i.e. the one saying Hicks had a double).
  18. I like Mr. Brooks line of thought... would you trade Sano for Dozier? My answer is an overwhelming NO, and Addison is a better prospect at this point (who plays a premium defensive position).
  19. But that graph suggests he has not taken ANY at bats vs. a right-handed pitcher as a left-handed batter, and we know that is not correct!
  20. Not sure if it is available on the 1500ESPN website, but it is certainly available on iTunes. Ruesse had an interview with Dougie Baseball on Monday in which Dougie (in TK form) was very complimentary of Adam Walker. He thinks his power will play at higher levels, and also noted Walker's knack for driving in runs, especially in key situations (actually said that Walker's homers aren't when the team is ahead by 7 runs, etc.).
  21. Buck went 0-2 today and played CF for the Miracle!
  22. Looks like he is now on an 80-pitch limit like Meyers.
  23. While I love Roberts as a prospect, I think projecting him as a top-10 kind of guy is a little ambitious. He is the anti-ABWII in that he has never been 'young' for the league and almost ALL of his value is tied up in a skill that will not necessarily translate at the MLB level. In addition, he brings even less defensive value than ABWII, and has played DH for over half of his games each year. Hopefully this doesn't come across as ripping Roberts, and set of a firestorm of controversy, because I am definitely rooting for Nate. I guess I should add that these thoughts are for MY top-10 list (and what I would guess for a BA-type list), but Nate Roberts could obviously be top-10 on your list.
  24. Were these pitch velocities from the CR park gun, or were you looking at a scouting gun?
  25. And I just read the minor league forum a lot more often than the heavily contested major league forum:p!
