1. But could you really see 3 of the top 4 being HS arms? The history of HS arms drafted 1-1 (David Clyde and Brien Taylor) looks even worse than for HS catchers (Mauer and ... um... nobody worth mentioning) !
2. Hey Seth, has Buxton switched from the #7 he wore last year (it looks like #9 in your picture). If so, there isn't any conflict on the MLB roster and we can start on our homemade jerseys!
3. I think the reason Swarzak is doing better as a reliever is that he has pretty much shelved his changeup, which has a cumulative value of -15.3 over his career (compared to +5.5 for his 4-seam FB, 3.2 for his 2-seam, and -4.3 for his curveball)! His changeup is just as bad now, and I don't think he can survive as a starter with 2 pitches.
4. As the scouting lore goes, the Twins were the first team to identify Miguel Cabrera as a super prospect. Their strong presence in Venezuela suggests they could have signed him if they would have ponied up the >$1.9 he signed for. Now THAT is something to cry about! I would certainly hope they learned from that painful experience!
5. He may also be able to get 20 outfield assists!
6. How can you argue with Mays, a 20 year old with an OPS>1.000 in AAA that ends up winning the ROY award or Mantle, who was 3rd in MVP voting at 19?
7. Hey Gun... I know you know, but I think it's worth the extra effort to make sure to remind ourselves that Rosario's suspension is NOT for PEDs, but rather a 'drug of abuse'.
8. lightfoot... I don't want to put words into Thrylos' mouth, but before you volunteer Walker up as your Hamilton-clone, you might want to ask yourself if he was talking about this: http://www.jeffpearlman.com/josh-hamilton-and-the-vanishing-20-pounds/
9. Interesting to bring this discussion back to the top... Yankees at 7yr/$120 was quite a ways off!
10. Wow, a 7-year contract at what amounts to $25 million/year! That is quite a bit more risky that I am comfortable with, and am glad the Twins didn't take that gamble.
11. Hey Seth... Is this move of a soft-tossing lefty who occupies a spot on the 40-man linked to the acquisition of another (presumably) soft-tossing lefty that you hinted at in another thread?
12. Good point... I should have de-linked them and said his ERA decreased from 4.87 to 4.51 despite his BABIP increasing 37 points AND his FIP had a more impressive decrease from 4.88 to 3.78.
13. I don't want to give the impression that I am overly optimistic about May, but his secondary stats improved a lot between '12 and '13. Specifically, his FIP decreased from 4.88 in '12 to 3.78 in '13 DESPITE having an inversely proportional BABIP of .292 vs. .329. At the risk of making people 'throw up in their mouths a little bit', I would be happy if we could get as much out of May as we got from another Phillie trade (Carlos Silva), who is vilified despite out-performing his salary by >300% during his 4-year career with the Twins (FG value of $31M vs. actual salary of $9.6M).
14. The thing I like about May is that people have reported he maintains fastball velocity deep into games. He could really take off if he could gain some consistency with his curveball, which has, in the past, been a good pitch for him. Back in 2012, when he was the Phillies #1 prospect, BA said his curveball was "..his No. 2 pitch is a 74-78 mph downer curveball, which was his best weapon in high school, but he overthrows it at times".
15. Today is better than Christmas for me! Even more so since I found out I could get the premium content after signing in (I only had an account because I had purchased previous material from BA). If you have an account, try signing in! There has been a lot of guessing what #'s 11-20 will look like, but I found this new feature (top 15 players under 25), which listed the following players after Jorge Polanco, suggestive:

13. Max Kepler, of/1b (21) Low Class A 14. Fernando Romero, rhp (19) Rookie 15. Stephen Gonsalves, lhp (19) Rookie

Fernando Romero is certainly a name we have heard before, but I don't think many have the fireballing Dominican right-hander as high as #12! For a quick primer, this is what Thrylos had to say about him:
16. I am not sure I buy the 'organization opinion' for ranking. Maybe for whom to include in the top 30... but not the order of the top 10. If the team-specific rankings (i.e. top 10) are driven by the organization's opinions, but the BA top-100 is all writer-driven, we should be able to find multiple examples where the numbers don't match up... right?
17. OK, first off, that is definitely on him. However... did you see how much that ball was bouncing? Outfield hits didn't even bounce that high off the Astroturf at the Metrodome (except for Knobby's in '91)! This wasn't a case of an outfielder being too lazy to bend down for the ball, as it actually bounced OVER his glove. Again, he should still be cognizant of where he is playing, but I'll chalk this up to focusing too much on the runner at third.
18. ... or maybe it's Arcia's choice, and the Twins are taking it on the chin so he doesn't look bad.
19. ... and while your at it, please dispute the notion that we have too many #5 starters!
20. Just a note on those pedestrian AFL numbers... Someone (MiLB.com?) had a piece on Kepler in which they said he led the league in what I think they called 'average batted ball distance'. Basically, they were saying that he, as a 19 year old, was hitting the ball 'harder' than anyone else in the league. Now, I would much rather not have to dig so hard to find numbers that support my excitement for Kepler, but this is still pretty good news for a 6'4" prospect with good plate discipline who has yet to develop his man-muscles.
21. I have never had a problem with the In-House-Promotion style of the Twins, and I am not in favor of replacing anyone at this moment. I think they have done an exemplary job of hiring dependable, stand-up people and have built an effective, close-knit community. However... It just dawned on me (perhaps it has been on others minds for some time) that the Twins have somewhat painted themselves into a corner. If they go for an outside hire at GM, that person will undoubtedly want to surround themselves with their own people, and so the Pohlads will, in effect, be firing dozens of people they care deeply about. That has to be a heart-wrenching amount of inertia to overcome. Oops, I meant "Congratulations Mr. Antony on your recent promotion"!
22. Post of the day, nothing... POST OF THE YEAR!
23. Thank you for these write-ups, Thrylos, I have really enjoyed them... you speak my language. Just a nitpick, but remember that options are used to 'remove' someone from the 40-man roster, so calling up Sano in September will not 'use' an option unless you send him back down in September, which would be pointless. And I assume there will still be drek on the 40-man that can be removed in favor of a star prospect (or two, as I am hopeful Buxton also makes a September appearance).
24. But don't forget that you are using 2013 WAR dollars, which will not be accurate for a 2016 contract... especially the way teams are spending this year!
