  1. Twins should sign one more vet reliever (Clipprd level) and that’s about it. I like the roster as it stands. If Father Time catches up with Cruz, the Twins have to pivot to their hitters playing over in St. Paul.
  2. I’m another naysayer. I would have preferred promoting Larnach or Rooker and giving DH/rest to Donaldson and some DH days to Polanco and Arraez. I hope I’m wrong and Cruz continues to be the elite Boomstick in the lineup.
  3. Mitch Garver should be at the top of the list in this conversation.
  4. All but two were New York City Centric. He couldn’t even list the 1980 Miracle on Ice because Lake Placid NY is too far from the big city.
  5. If the Twins bring Cruz back, they must be willing to limit his at-bats or DFA if Father Time catches up and he is not producing. If he continues to defy time, that is better. But if he slides, they will have bought some time to see who is producing in St Paul.
  6. No need to sign Cruz. The FO already says it will be putting Donaldson at DH more to limit injuries. Then get at bats for other players (Rooker,Larnach...)
  7. Bonds is not personally liked by a number of the the Sportswriters. That is as much of a reason as the ‘roids. Are nice guys with lesser numbers more deserving? If so, then Torrii Hunter and Michael Cuddyer should be at the head of the class. I think the Hall is more interesting with a rogues gallery, anyways. Ty Cobb and Cap Anson are in it. Schilling’s numbers are worthy., so don’t let him be taken out snd vote him in anyways (his sour grapes induction speech will make the Hall more interesting). Maybe I’m crazy, but reinstate Pete Rose (another guy with a less congenial personality - especially compared to his teammates Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan).
  8. I think Schilling should be in the Hall. Still, his baseball career is not equivalent to the supreme excellence of LeBron James. Nevertheless, Schilling would point out that he collects WW2 memorabilia in general, not just Nazi memorabilia. There have been Civil War history enthusiasts (called Civil War Buffs, remember) who in the past collected notability for both sides and even conducted battle re-enactments. There are history enthusiasts who have followed all types of scoundrels through history. While Vlad the Impaler and the leaders of the Spanish Inquisition are certainly detestable, they are much more interesting historical figures to study than some benevolent monarchs who boosted local agriculture during their reigns. I don’t have a problem with any of this, but understand that society has become touchy about it. Now for those who disagree with this post, go back to reading that newspaper story about the serial killer while you skip the story about the Nun who has helped the homeless.
  9. No problem with moving Polanco to 2B and having Arraez as super sub is OK too. No more infielders needed. Travis Blankenhorn and Lewis in reserve. Agree to Sano filling in at 3B in a pinch.
  10. This is great. Polanco was defensive liability but is versatile enough to play SS, 2B and DH. Arraez at 2B and DH. I presume one or two of those three can play 3B while Donaldson rests or is at DH. Lewis comes up in the event of injury. Life is good.
  11. Remember, the Twins want to put Josh Donaldson at DH more often - to protect his calf muscle. The remaining days should have a combination of Sano, Larnach, Rooker other rested “everyday players” (like Polanco after Twins pick up SS).
  12. There seems to be a consensus in baseball banter that paying big for top end relief doesn’t work. The Twins supposedly made this “mistake” with Addison Reed (not the hair coloring). Yet, it would be nice to see the Twins get a quality start and then be able to hand the game over to three shutdown guys in innings 7, 8 and 9. Not too long ago, that approach took the Royals to World Series Championships. In an era where starters hardly ever pitch a complete game, relief pitching is important enough to warrant paying for talent. Just saying!

  14. Mayer was set to catcher for years. The Twins were correct to get something for Ramos. Capps just ended out being the wrong guy in retrospect.
  15. Not as good as A League of Their Own, which includes the greatest one line of any baseball movie and maybe in the top 100 in all of cinema history.
  16. An overlooked but fine baseball movie is the “true” and life story of Jimmy Piersall, Fear Strikes Out, with Anthony Perkins and Karl Malden. The movie is probably a little too tough on Piersall’s dad, blaming his problems on his hard-driving dad when actually Piersall was bipolar.
  17. I liked “The Force Awakens”. The Twins will awaken to some free agent and trade opportunities soon.
  18. Agreed. Get a starting SS, and we have Polanco/Arraez and soon Lewis to start at 2nd and be z as utility infielder and outfielder.
  19. I think it’s time for HOF to consider steroid types who would have made it without the ‘roids”(Bonds and Clemons) as well as reinstating Pete Rose - so in that context consider this - Schilling’s “behavior” is merely the fact that he is an unabashed conservative politically and the sportswriters tend to lean left. OK - Curt is beyond a mainstream Rob Portman/Marco Rubio type of conservative. He recently posted comments that seemed to border on support for the crazy nuts who attacked the Capitol. He owns WW2 memorabilia which includes Nazi stuff (SS uniforms etc), which is not a popular hobby. If his claim is true that AIG canceled his insurance over his “social media profile” (cancel-culture run amuck), then it is unlikely that liberal-leaning sportswriters will overlook him. His baseball career stats, however, are HOF caliber, and he’s still a much nicer guy than HOFers Ty Cobb, Cap Anson, Tris Speaker ...(and by the way don’t purge the past either). Hope that rant doesn’t disturb the more pure of heart.
  20. Rotating internal options is a better option because it gives a chance to rest established players like Sano and Donaldson. It creates more opportunity for younger players who are ready to be called. I don’t want Rooker and Larnach to sit on the bench. It is also more cost effective. I loved the Nelson Cruz years but last year should be the last.
  21. I will get my vaccine and hopefully follow the Twins as much as possible in the stands with other vaxxed fans at Target Field. Otherwise, I’ll follow them on FSN on Directv, in the Strib and of course here at TD
  22. Scalp? I wonder if we can use that word anymore in a discussion about the Cleveland Baseball Team.
  23. If they pick up Marquez, the Twins will probably be the only MLB team that will ever have two GERMANS on a team.
  24. To be clear. I would like to upgrade SS defense. Semien, Profar and Hernández would do that. However, the Twins claim Royce Lewis looked great in St Paul last year, they should not sign anyone longterm that blocks Lewis.
