  1. Guys like Miranda, Julien & France are on the fringe because of their offensive shortcomings and their lack of defensive chops just make it almost impossible for them to be sustainable. If they hit like Adam Dunn, Mark McGwire, Gary Scheffield, Frank Thomas they'd have lengthy big league careers and multiple all-star appearances and garner HOF consideration. They don't.
  2. I'm just happy that we've passed the days when the team needs to bring up a player and we find ourselves saying "Who is Andrew Albers?" James Beresford, Ryan O'Rourke, Logan Darnell, But actually guys who can be expected to contribute. On a similar note, Michael Tonkin made his MLB debut a month before Andrew Albers.
  3. The one thing I DON'T want to see is that emergency that put Lewis at 2B
  4. Wait. A sports FO guy NOT telling US what WE want to hear? That's insane. No way. Are you telling me I should NOT believe everything that comes out of NFL guys mouths this time of year? I may have to re-think all of my life priorities.
  5. The current owner put that additional money into the payroll in 2023. And was immediately met with calls for more. There will always be multiple teams spending far more money than the Twins. Almost all of them will not be rewarded with a championship for their spending.
  6. The next guy might not be what rube nation thinks he will be either.
  7. I still want to know: If any undrafted college grad has ever made it to the big leagues faster than he did.
  8. You hit on some but I'm not gonna call two 1st round picks, a three time batting champ and the most exciting (maybe not productive) power hitter this team has had since Killebrew random.
  9. I would encourage you to add the word "might" to new owners coming and emphasize the MIGHT regarding them changing the financial landscape for the better. These are unknowns and maybe just dreams until they ain't.
  10. You are right. It's spring. Hope springs eternal. Nobody thinks they are "a couple of arms the 'might' be able to contribute soon" away. Nor should the Twins.
  11. You ASSUME Bader and France are bad signings. Just like Santana and Solano were. Unless, of course, they're not.
  12. I'm guessing this year will be impacted more by this year than last year.
  13. Just so we don't forget, before he got hurt last year Joe was one of the top 12 pitchers in the AL. As were Lopez & Ober. To be honest, any of the three could be on this list.
  14. What if France sticks around because he's a positive?
  15. Not only were we proven wrong but there may have been much that was never proven........
  16. OR they don't believe France is worse. Which speaks not well for Mr. Miranda. Might I remind you of the light in which most of viewed Mr. Santana in a year ago and Mr. Solano in two years ago. Hell even two months into the season two years ago Mr. Solano had FIVE RBI. Santana won a Gold Glove and we don't sniff the post-season in 2023 without Solano's contributions. Seems like sometimes the team knows some stuff we don't.
  17. I love how everybody assumes a new owner would spend like a drunken sailor at a pub. Hell, I'm old enough to remember when folks thought that of the Pohlads after they bought the club from Calvin. I'll bet anyone that when and if the team is sold, they won't win two World Series within 8 years.
  18. I will make two replies. I have little doubt that he worked hard to be an acceptable third baseman. The fact that it appears he is no longer being asked to be one may be an indication that his work may not have been enough. As far as maximizing hitting the ball hard, we had a guy here for almost 8 years who hit the ball harder than any Twin since # 3. Was fun as hell to watch when he DID hit the ball hard. Seems like when it comes to guys who hit the ball hard the team places a certain level of value on doing it with some sort of consistency. Again, Miranda has not proven to do that. Maybe he will. Maybe he won't.
  19. This just in. We have learned that points will NOT be awarded for last year. And for that matter, I have little doubt that Miranda can play worse than he did last year. Seems the team might feel that way as well. Hence, the presence of France. OR, he could play BETTER than he did last year. As could France. THIS, it has been learned is why they will play the games.
  20. What it means for Miranda is that maybe it's time to turn promise into productivity. You can't make soup out of promise.
  21. How about if we exchanged that "pleasant long term relationship with Jose Miranda" to "lighting a fire under his ass?"
