  1. Trading the one bonafide starter in not a good plan.
  2. Couple responses: Not sure how important it is to have a catcher who can "lay down a bunt when YOU feel it is necessary. 2: You are correct in that Joe Mauer is NOT walking thru that door. And, actually, I'm OK with that. I'm 61 years old and, truth be told, the prospect of spending my "golden years" listening to Twins fans bitch about one of the best ever at his position not being able to hit for power is not one I relish.
  3. None of these guys are bringing back anything that will help this team in the next year or two or maybe even ever. There is no Nelson Cruz for Joe Ryan scenario on the horizon. Just hope to God there is also no Jose Berrios for a couple of AAAA guys either.
  4. Probably why they are selling. Folks with money like to avoid cash poor positions.
  5. Typically, in this type of transaction, the buyer purchases assets only. Debt remains with the previous owner. Now the price of the assets may account for some (but probably not all) of the debt but at the end of the day, they new owners are not likely to assume the debt. The only debt they will have will be for any payments they make on the team if it's not a cash deal.
  6. Everyone conveniently forgets that they traded the best pitcher they developed in a generation. Yeah, I know, they weren't going to be able to re-sign him. But do we REALLY know that? I won't even mention that they took a stud who was a starter all thru the minors and made him a reliever. A really good one but I'd rather have a starter.
  7. Seems like there's been talk of teaching Wallner or Larnach to play 1B all season. Also seems like there's been very little actual teaching Wallner or Larnach to play 1B. Honestly I'd rather see Sabato EARN and get a shot and either become the player they envisioned when they drafted him or play well enough to hold the spot and have someone like Billy Amick rise thru the system quickly and become the 1B. Small sample size but doing quite well this year. The problem with moving Larnach or Wallner becomes the amount of time we end up seeing a Castro or Keirsey or Gasper out there.
  8. There could be worse things than a highly drafted highly touted prospect who plays a position of need for a team that needs power hitting finally getting it right even at age 26,
  9. Was thinking along those same lines. Feels like only a few months ago we were hearing about it being a great time to trade arms for bats. Things move fast.
  10. Adams is going to get a lot of frequent flyer miles crossing the river over the next few months.
  11. A couple of these guys appear to wear their baseball glove on the hand closest to the 3rd base dugout. Seems odd for Twins pitchers. Are they facing the wrong direction? Is this even allowed? Perhaps a followup article is in order.
  12. I should think that while we should be able to be on the lookout for the roster construction to workout the way it was intended heading into the 2025 season I'm not as sure that we can count on it.
  13. If you think "it is always a guess" maybe it's just that you weren't good at it. Robot technology will just bring a different set of issues for folks to disagree with. Just like replay. If more than one person looks at a replay there is a damn good chance that there will be more than one interpretation of the outcome. I mean look at what we have right now. On every pitch we have a box on the screen that is "supposed" to represent the strike zone. Now pull up the rule book and read what is says the strike zone is really supposed to be. Not even close. Do umpires make mistakes? Sure. Will robots? **** yes. Whether you want to believe that or not. I still umpire slow pitch softball at the park & rec level. Just about the easiest level of umpiring you'll find. Do I get every call right? Nope. But I do the best I can do. Hell, if I walk off the field and both teams are pissed off at me because of one call that went against each of them I figure I had the best day of anyone on the field. Nobody's perfect. No umpires, not players, not coaches / managers and sure as hell not fans. If we're going to fix one of those with robots, why not robot players as well?
  14. I always tell folks who grumble about ownership to buy the team. Of course I know that's not logistically possible. I will tell anyone who says F the umpires the same thing. Become one. Easy to do. You can do it for baseball or softball. 7th 8th grade level or even JV to start. You can start at the youth level, 4th graders. You can do beer league or Park & Rec. If you wanna say F the umpires, BECOME ONE. See what it's all about. Hell, they'll even pay you to do it. If it's as easy as you must think you should be able to advance to the big leagues in short order. Probably even make more money than you make at your current job. Sack up.
  15. Or might have been dominant starter and worth FAR more on the open market. Pretty sure the competitor in him thinks that. He'll never re-sign here.
  16. Lewis 3 for 3. I slept well last night. Mostly because I was tired but seeing the kid hit the ball a little didn't hurt.
  17. Understand that. But he should be back in the lineup by early July and if his performance takes any kind of uptick get him up. He gets on base better than Keaschall did on the other side of the river and Keaschall came up and we fell in love with him. Let's get him up here and in the lineup and maybe create the kind of excitement that was created when Keaschall came up. Keeping him down because of injury concerns makes no sense. Would be like saying that when Keaschall comes back we need to keep him down until he proves he can stay healthy in the minors.
  18. ALL teams hype their prospects and most flame out. A story as old as the game itself.
