  1. My saying I believe Rosario is our most big ready prospect has nothing to do with Hicks, the AFL or Spring Training. I've felt this way since his on field performance at Fort Myers & New Brittain in 2013.
  2. On the one hand we complain that Hicks was rushed on the other we complain that we need to rush Buxton so he can be the next Mike Trout. So confused. It hurts.
  3. I'll be the last to disagree. I'll also go against the grain and make the statement that if Dozier's second half last year were to repeat itself, Rosario's 2B possibility may be of some value to this team in the future as well.
  4. I've been saying since he returned from suspension last year that he's the most big league ready of our prospects. I still believe that.
  5. I want to see the best guy get the spot. I don't care who it is and I hope it's not pre-determined. And, yes, I am OK if it's Sidd Finch.
  6. Totally agree. Just cite me the last example of that being a guy less than one year into a 4 year $54 million contract.
  7. Of course thinking that they would trade Santana a half season or less into a 4 year deal kind of calls your credibility into question.
  8. You are absolutely right sir. The man has fewer than 550 big league plate appearances. An extremely small sample size. And to take you last comment to its logical conclusion-even .300 hitters have occasional 69 PA stretches of .250 as well.
  9. What many on here are failing to understand is that you are basing your opinions of Hicks on what he has done the last two seasons. If he again performs at those levels this whole conversation will become mute except to those who have a strong allegiance to the Rochester Red Wings. For him to remain relevant those parts of his game (slugging %) not already nearly on par with Dozier's will have to improve significantly. If that happens those parts already at or near Dozier's level will most likely improve as well. I saw nothing in the second half of 2014 to lead me to believe that Dozier's game will elevate to another level. Bottom line is that if Hicks does not significantly improve his game he will be gone in two years or less. I'm not disputing that. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. But if he does improve, he will end up being a superior ball player to Dozier. Whether the rubes like it or not.
  10. “The perennial favorite Detroit Tigers still have David Price, Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera.” “The AL Champion Royals still have that speedy offense and one of the best bullpens in baseball.” “The White Sox have improved across every position and look to be real contenders!” “Don’t discount the Indians! This team has a sneaky offense and a solid rotation!” And yet, one of these teams, quite possibly even two, will finish with a sub .500 record. I guess that's why they play the games.
  11. Not not a big Nunez fan but don't really see any youngsters who are a better fit for what we are expecting from that spot. They traded for Milone for a number of reasons not the least of which is that he is a veteran left handed pitcher with with proven major league track record.
  12. "Pinto claims his main purpose for playing in the winter leagues this offseason was to focus on his defensive skills." The man's been a professional baseball player since 2006. How did it take until 2014 to realize he needs to work on defense?
  13. don't sell yourself short bud
  14. Why do we just assume that because he's a big guy he can't play defense? He's a 21 year old kid. Let's see what he can do-with the bat and with the glove. Obviously, having missed all of last year and with no big league experience he's likely going to have to spend part, if not most or all of 2015 in the minors. But when he gets here we need to take the Thome route-pencil him into the lineup at 3B for about 3 seasons and let the chips fall where they may. You'd be surprised how many Gold Gloves have been won by guys who hit 40 home runs but couldn't play defense to save their lives. Put him into the lineup at 3B for a few years commencing late 2015 or early 2016 and guess what-at the end of that time Joe Mauer's contract is up and we may have a open spot at the other corner.
  15. That and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee. Not the good kind but coffee nonetheless.
  16. Let me do the math for you: Hicks BA: 250: Dozier career high BA: .244; HIcks OBP: .348: Dozier career high OBP: .345; I'm willing to concede slugging %. Hicks projected RBI: 69: Dozier career high RBI: 71; Hicks projected SB: 15: Dozier career 162 game average SB: 18. Did I miss anything?
  17. Projected over a full season those are basically Dozier's numbers.
  18. As I said: If the guy wins the job. And that will be decided by the coaching staff. Not me. Not you.
  19. Calling a guy who hit 5 after the break a given might be an indication that we're not exactly setting the bar too high.
  20. Infielders playing outfield. Like I said. Last year all over again and again.
  21. I'd love to have a guy who could start 1 game a week each at LF, RF, DH, 1B & 3B.
  22. You've got to base your decisions on something. If you keep looking backward you'll get there sooner rather than later.
  23. If neither Hicks nor Rosario (or Buxton) makes the opening day roster then it's last year all over again just cross out Fuld/Mastroiani & substitue Shane Robinson.
  24. He hit .352 with an OPS of .979 the last two springs combined. Yeah, OK he didn't WIN the job.
