  1. I go back and forth on the one game wild card. As I read these comments, there are some really good points being made. One thing I would add, is to adjust the unbalanced schedule. The Twins benefited from this in all 6 of their Division titles under Gardy. That's fine. I would argue, that since the division was the weakest at those times, that we did not have a realistic view of how we stacked up against the East or West. It kinda played out that way in the playoffs. If we lessen the unbalanced schedule, not get rid of it completely, we would have a few more games against each team in the East/West and that could make those games more meaningful (especially in Aug/Sept).
  2. Haha, my bad! Been flipping back and forth, thanks for the correction Scrap. Big hit by Mauer
  3. Yes Santana pinch hit for buxton. Why Vargas did not pinch hit is beyond me. If Vargas gets on, then you can pinch run Santana. Perplexing.
  4. It's been a good trade using hindsight. At the time, I was not impressed, but not overly offended, as I thought the twins were done. He did hit 98mph on a pitch last night. Is that like the first time in 4 years for the twins?
  5. Per a tweet by gleeman: "Eddie Rosario has 1 walk and 43 strikeouts in his last 33 games. For the year he has 11 walks, 101 strikeouts, and a .286 OBP in 101 games". Rosario is far from a finished product, but having good plate coverage does not help much if your OBP is .286. Obviously we can hope for a learning curve here, but I am less confident that Rosario (based on his last few years in minors) projects to do too much more than this. I'd certainly be willing to wait and see on him, but I wouldn't be opposed to moving him before Hicks though.
  6. Makes sense to have him sit out tonight's game and then get the off day...it's pains me to think of it, because, for the most part, he and Esko have been our entire offense lately.... However, I do wish the Twins were finding Vargas some more at bats, since the September call up. He's played in one game I believe.
  7. 3rd attempt at bunting...molly loves the bunt!!!!
  8. Because you are asking Suzuki and Buxton, to get you that fly ball. Assuming the bunt gets down correctly, which it did not...On the road in the 7th inning is not the time to get so conservative. We have seen a pattern of this all year.
  9. Hate that bunt there....Esco is swinging well, suzuki and Buxton unreliable...always giving away outs. One of my biggest complaints about Molly
  10. Agreed. I like his skill sets, but the lack of plate discipline will hurt him in the long run. We have two players on our team with an on base % above .320 (min 70 plate appearances). If Rosario is going to bat .270, you would like him to be close to .320 in on base%. Without great power, it renders him potentially average to below average maybe?
  11. People keep on bringing up the AJ trade. One of the greatest trades in Twins' history. AJ was an all star at a supremely valuable position. It's just not apples to apples. Ploufe is not an all star and he almost assuredly never will be. There are obviously valuable points for and against. I guess for me, I see the Twins as a very average, flawed team. The AL is ripe with parity, and somehow the Twins are in the race. Does that automatically mean we will be in it again next year? No. This team has too many questions, and our best players (outside of Dozier) our going to be our young ones.... That is slightly scary (and exciting) considering we are going to be completely relying on Rosario, Buxton, Hicks, Sano, Duffy, Berrios, May to keep us moving forward. With all that being said, I would absolutely want to trade Ploufe in the off season. What we are getting from him now is just about his ceiling. If the young kids, as a group, fail next season, then Trevor Ploufe is not getting you to the post season. I don't feel we are close enough to being a perennial playoff team just yet, to hang onto a chip, that you can turn around into something more positive for potentially both next year and in the future.
  12. I agree with NYTtwinsfan. Hunter has been awful. Embarrassingly so. He also had that ball drop in front of him (close to the line), with a terrible jump and just no speed. Who doesn't think Rosario or Hicks cannot make that play? Hunter is a veteran, at the end of his career (at least I hope with the Twins). Buxton is a rookie, hopefully franchise player. If they both are going to struggle at the plate, let Buxton play and get valuable experience in a playoff race. He might figure some things out at the plate. I do not think playing Robinson more is the answer...
  13. Per Aaron Gleeman: Byron Buxton through 18 games: .225 AVG, .257 OBP, .296 SLG Kent Hrbek through 18 games: .196 AVG, .255 OBP, .314 SLG Byron Buxton through 18 games: .225 AVG, .257 OBP, .296 SLG Mike Trout through 18 games: .200 AVG, .262 OBP, .364 SLG I believe Buxton has now played 19 games (so stats are slightly worse), but it still doesn't change that with elite prospects comes a little patience. My hope is the Twins are committed to playing Buxton, even during the WC race. If he needs a game off here and there so be it. If anyone should lose playing time, when HIcksy comes back, it should be Hunter. Heck Robinson has been earning his playing time compared to Torii.
  14. Rosario should not be thought of as a replacement for Dozier, agreed 100%. One of many fears I have, is Dozier's 2nd half swoons. Is there any way to explain this? He still get us an occasional bomb, but it seems like this is 3 straight years of regression in the 2nd half of the season. It's an annoying pattern, although admittedly his overall numbers are still good for a 2bmen.
  15. Wow, a pitcher going an extra inning once he has thrown 100 pitches...The gall to break that unwritten rule!
  16. Bad that hicksie is out....here comes Buxton though...
  17. I don't comment as much as others, but I still read comments. I read the comments mostly because I can get some really good data, and thought provoking ideas. Humor as well. Often times I agree with many of the posters. Often times I don't. If a section starts to go in a direction that annoys me, then I have the choice to not read it anymore. I do however, get a bit uncomfortable when people get "preachy" on what I should or should not say, as it pertains to the twins FO, management, or players. Obviously I understand we don't wanna get personal and wish ill onto anyone. This includes posters. In that same vein, if I want to vent, rationally, in this case that TR should be let go, it should be my right as a member of Twins Daily, and a frequent reader, to do so and I guess often... The Twins have the worst record in the American League since June 1st. It's been a roller coaster ride. I imagine the posts probably reflect this. I am glad that I have this forum to learn, read and also contribute my thoughts.
  18. Perk has admitted himself that he does not hit it real hard in the offseason. Well as he gets older, he probably should re-evaluate that approach. These declining numbers in the 2nd half suggest he is getting tired. If you are in better shape, you may have more gas in the tank in the 2nd half.
  19. I think the Perkins situation is somewhat alarming. Trading him while still under a team friendly contract? Let's not be prudent. Something is clearly not the same with Perk. More alarming is that our starting pitching is in the tank. Guys we thought we could count on, are simply not stepping up. It's not a good sign when our most recent effective starters are Pelfrey, Duffy and Milone. I would like to think Santana, Hughes and Gibson would be more consistent. We already kind of knew our bullpen is a mess, Perk included.
  20. Funny I was kinda thinking the same thing. The way he positioned himself I was wondering where he was going to go with the ball...then he bobbled it, so I guess we will never know
  21. At least he didn't "k". Now hopefully our 9 man bullpen can win us a game this weekend, since we will see a lot of them.
  22. OMG, We don't have an available catcher if Suzuki goes down!!!! Gardy would never let that happen. Agree though, some real puzzling moves by Molly.
  23. Just a head scratcher why Jepsen was not in...Better hope Dozier or Sano (if he gets a chance) can play hero just to extend the game.
