  1. Seth, that is a great point, and some real good talent there. It would be nice, and almost unheard of for the Twins to produce a home grown SS of the future for the big league club. One of those 5 should really pan out (or one of those 4, because I think Polanco is not going to stick).
  2. Per Gleeman tweet: "Twins moved to Target Field in 2010. Since then they've won 442 games and Baseball Prospectus' PECOTA has projected them to win 441 games." Not bad
  3. Really too early to accurately get a feel on Molitor, but I do think he has potential to be better. I was not a big Gardy fan at all, and am happy we've moved on. I was disappointed we kept the inbreeding going, but at the same time respect Molitor, because I simply think he takes a more logical approach to the game than Gardy.
  4. Mauer is a future hall of famer? Are we confident about that? I think he needs a few more .400 + OB% years before he even gets into that discussion (and that probably s/b another thread) I do believe that sometimes people can figure things out, and do better than their minor league projections (not common but it happens). ABW is someone to watch and be hopeful about, but I agree with Nick, that with the uptick in pitching at the MLB level, he is going to have to continue to develop an elite eye at the plate, similar to Sano.
  5. Not a fan. Plenty of red jersey's out there. Then again, there were plenty of gray unis with blue/red piping that look alike (Atlanta/Cleveland...) and we still went to those uniforms (away uniforms). Bring back the away pinstripes!!!!
  6. Fien was dominant in 2014? Please elaborate.
  7. Thanks for the post Parker. It's a good read and I tend to agree with most of what was said. After reading this article, and a thread we had a few months ago (about the Twins being one of the luckiest teams in baseball in 2015), I am concerned the FO might think we are better than we are. Without question there are things to be excited about, but the Twins attempts at staying relevant rather than rebuild over the last few years, have left us with some interesting problems at SP, RP, and 1B/DH. Win Twins!
  8. Per Gleeman, nobody has played a 100 games at a listed weight above 250lbs in over 50 years (in RF)....I know I wrote earlier that I think Sano is athletic enough, but...that is an interesting observation he makes. I also like his point about why make iffy moves for a guy who has a career .245 ba, .308 OBP, and a .420 SLG? I think we may be over valuing Ploufe both on the trade market and his value to the team...
  9. Good stuff Seth (although "able to handle right field" might need to be clarified, as Cuddy really struggled at Target Field). However, I do agree that Sano is the better athlete and could play RF from an athletic standpoint. I also tend to agree with Platoon and a few others when it comes to Ploufe. It just feels like there is not going to be a better time to move him. Maybe we don't get that much, but how will that change moving forward? Terry appears pretty adamant on this though. I guess we will see.
  10. I tend to agree with you, however Mackey did cover them for a while....so I do think he heard it, just don't know how reliable the source is. Again, I still don't think there is a large market out there for an unproven center fielder (who mostly cannot hit left handed).
  11. Mackey reporting this morning, that low to midlevel Twins sources are saying the Twins plan to keep Ploufe and trade Hicks. He also said that there is a mutual admiration between Jordan Zimmerman and the Twins, and has been for a few years. Again, I have no idea who his sources are, so take it for what it is worth.... I am struggling to figure out how they are going to get very much in a trade for Hicks.
  12. I miss those pinstriped unis...like them better than our current away ones. The Evans play is my favorite all time Twins' defensive play....I will never forget watching that. Thanks Parker!
  13. Nick, thanks for your observations. I think the early statements coming out were that Sano was going to play the field/3B and led some of us to believe that Plouffe would be traded. However, and thanks to Kwak on the assist, Ryan has been more firm in his comments in the paper, recently, that Plouffe was the 3rd baseman and Joe was the firstbaseman, and that Sano needed to play in the field. I am simply wondering how that works out for Sano? I guess we can only speculate at this point. Kwak also pointed out that Terry has in no way made a decision concerning May. Told him to stretch his arm out but that decision will be made before camp. As Gleeman points out, and often, most good to great relievers are failed starters. Significantly more value in a starter than a reliever. That's why I hope Ryan let's May start. I do not think Ryan is a conman, or a liar. Do I think he puts a spin on things? Yes, especially back when he did not have much financial freedom. I wouldn't consider it far fetched for him to sign a couple of journey man or projects, and retain Duensing/Boyer and claim that significant moves were made to the bullpen. I am not attacking his character though. I think lots of GM's do these things. I think we are all hoping that the twins FO see that most of the success they had this year was because of the young kids, and plan to fortify the team accordingly, knowing that some of that young talent will regress.
  14. Ryan said in today's Pioneer press, that Ploufe will play third and Joe will play first. Sano will play the field more. So what are we to gather about that? He has also stated if that Torii wants to be back he will be back as well.... So how does Sano get playing time in the field? It should be interesting. Just because Terry said it's going to be a busy off season does not mean that much. Bringing in a couple of journey men for the bullpen, on the cheap, and resigning Duensing/Boyer does not sound like new improved options. However, Terry is pretty good at spin and will qualify this as a busy off season. I don't expect any moves to the rotation, and predict May will stay in the bullpen (when I think he should be given the chance to start). That's how I feel. I hope Trader Terry proves me wrong.
  15. According to this link: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2015/10/2/9435963/twins-hitters-offense-lucky-runners-on-sops-mlb The Twins were historically lucky offensively this year. If this is true, we can expect regression in general to happen. That's why I would trade Ploufe now and absolutely not resign Hunter. Our hope is that some of the young guys continue to progress not regress as we move forward.
  16. Gotta say boys, Molly bringing in Perk in that high leverage situation was suspect. He's been awful in 2nd half. Injuries or not May woulda been the right call. Just bad managing. I don't blame Perk, he just doesn't have it. Doesn't throw slider. it is what it is. Ruesse's article riping Chris Young is just wrong. He's been very good this year for a soft tossing journeyman. #1 against right handed batters in the whole AL. He's been good. Yes the offense could and should have done more, but you cannot bring a guy with an almost an 8 era with your season on the line in a high leverage situation.... On the double that hicks dove for and didn't get, that shoulda been Torii's ball. Bad jump, no speed, love me some Torii, but he's just not the same. Hurt us later with the kick. Oh well great season. Win Twins!
  17. Nolasco is furious with Ramirez (saying 'He'll get his")? Embarrassing. It didn't appear he even saw the pose or the flip as he turned to watched the ball. If this wasn't your first pitching appearance since May Ricky, you might have a small (very small reason), to be annoyed. The kid overreacted to the intentional walk in a blow out (still not getting Molly's over managing at that point). Should the twins have responded in the fashion they did? I have no problem with that? Should it go any further than that. No.
  18. The slider and the batters' fear of the slider, is the pitch that most hitters are weary of. If he is afraid, or unable to throw the slider effectively, he simply is not the same pitcher. Health related or not.
  19. I absolutely do not think Molly is strategically using those 3 based on match ups and high leverage situations (which would amount to using our 3 best relievers in any high leverage situations). I think Perk is not closing, because he is still not back to his dominant self. Once he is, he will probably get back his role of coming into a game, in the last inning, with nobody on base, in medium to low leverage situations, per the MLB norm. I think Perk or May get the 7th or 8th, depending on who pitched last, and Jepsen gets the ninth.
  20. Correct, the Padres were talking with the Twins at the trade deadline about Shields. I guess I am thinking this off season. Now that the Twins think they have something in Duffy (and so far so good), I cannot see them taking Shields on or anyone else (Reyes) with a bad or worse contract, just to get rid of Nolasco. Sometimes I wonder if people think we could trade Nolasco for some A ball semi prospect, who is not that good. The answer there is also no or they would have done so already.
  21. I see this often about Nolasco. Who would possibly take an injury prone hurler, when he has pitched on his recent contract, has stunk it up? In addition he has two more years at 12 million. The only way we get rid of Nolasco, is if we take on a worse contract. Maybe that player might have a little more value, but I just don't think Nolasco is going anywhere this off season. I also have a feeling Nunez will be back. I don't think the Twins trust Polonco or Santana to be utility men at this point, and have them sit on the bench. They would want both kids to get more at bats/fielding reps. Frankly, at this point, Santana needs more at bats and Polonco needs to polish it up in the field....
  22. We all agree he belongs in the bullpen now, however as far as your comment on Pelfrey being in the pen next year? No chance. He still wants to be a starter and will take less to get that chance, I am guessing.
  23. this thread is not going 30 pages, so my fireball induced coma is saved for another molly questionable managed game. Good night boys, we live to fight another day!!!
