  1. 2 XBH in one inning?!? Is that allowed?
  2. Since we have Garver, Jeffers, and Astudillo, what is the point of Telis? Is it legitimately that we had a spot, and he's the last guy standing on the taxi squad, so why not?
  3. I think if the FO becomes exceptional at finding undervalued major leaguers on cheap contracts/in free agency, and build a winner that way, we'll all be good with it. I don't care how the FO builds a team, so long as it's a good team. That being said, the Twins will always have to build primarily through drafting, developing, and shrewd trades for minor league talent--if this FO can't do that, they will not be successful in Minnesota. But two years of 98-win pace baseball is not so meaningless that I'll toss it out simply because this team looks like hot trash right now.
  4. Buxton, Arraez, Berrios are all cornerstones for this team, developed under this FO's watch. They also acquired Donaldson, Maeda, Pineda and Cruz. That's the 7 best players on the roster, all of whom any team in the league would be happy to have in prominent roles on their team, right? All of whom are what they are (as far as the Twins are concerned) in large part because of, or even solely due to, this front office. The issue we have right now is the players the previous front office left them that broke out in 2019 (Sano, Polanco, Kepler, Garver, Rosario) have been unable to recapture that magic. I do blame them for not being able to get those guys on track, or understand they wouldn't be able to and replace them, but this FO does a lot of good things too.
  5. The kids in their first draft class have only had 2 and a half minor league seasons thus far (half of 2017, 2018, and 2019). That's an awfully quick timeline to go from amateurs to good/great pros.
  6. Thanks for clarifying. Otherwise, I think we would have had the prime suspect in the cause of the Twins COVID outbreak.
  7. I doubt the Mets are willing to trade him yet. Plus, I think he's injured.
  8. Dick: "I don't know if the wind has a chance to catch up with that ball". How does Dick think planes are capable of having tail winds?
  9. Asking healthy 20/30 somethings to stand on their feet and occasionally move side to side for 10 to 15 minutes is far too much physical exertion. Gotta save the energy for the game.
  10. so Donaldson/Cruz/Buxton probably only get one more at bat each at this point? I'm not optimistic about getting 3 runs today.
  11. The minimum is 10 days, and I assume requires multiple consecutive negative tests, spaced over a defined time period. It is, as I understand it, possible that Simmons has already met the testing requirements, but as 10 days has not passed, he cannot yet return.
  12. Annnnndddd Mitch Garver leading off strikes out on 3 pitches. Fun.
  13. You have to balance the needs of all players--Shoemaker has now had 8 days of rest; because of the off day on Thursday, this allows you to get your rotation completely set up again (Maeda tomorrow on 6 days rest), Pineda on Friday on 7 days rest, Happ on Saturday on 7 days rest), followed by Shoemaker on Sunday, then back to Berrios on Monday (which also lets you pitch Berrios/Maeda/Pineda against Cleveland on regular rest). 162 games is going to be even more of a marathon this year than usual, so ensuring everyone gets rest is important.
  14. He has to be able to develop while on the taxi squad. He has access to the major league hitting coach, and all the tools our other hitters have. He can take BP before every single game. He can talk to Donaldson/Cruz about hitting. He can work on his defense with major league coaching. The only thing he can't do is face live pitching, but that's what, maybe 4-5 PA's a day he's losing out on? I think the rest of the advantages of being with the big club, along with the ability to use him for DH's makes up for the "plate appearances" he loses out on.
  15. I mentioned this in a post on another thread, but why in the world would AK not be on the taxi squad?
  16. Hmmm. With Garlick AND Kepler down, I'm quite surprised AK is not one of the call-ups. AK in the outfield seems preferable to Polanco and Astudillo up the middle. By a lot.
  17. I mean, they called him up for the DH last Wednesday--I would be surprised if upon sending him back down they also took him off the taxi squad. If he is indeed not on the taxi squad, then possibly 27th men don't need to be on the taxi squad? I suppose stranger things than jettisoning your top-prospect-that-you-may-have-called-up-this-week-anyways from the taxi squad have happened, I would just be surprised.
  18. Since it's a DH, I assume they get a 27th man. As they've already announced the starters (according to what I saw on ESPN this morning), I have to wonder if it will be AK again.
  19. I was arguing the idea that there are 16 teams that have identical weather situations as the Twins. I think there are 8 others, and 7 more that you'd want to skew towards being more on the road than at home over the first couple of weeks. The facts that you pointed out about this already being done, simply proves the point I'm making. MLB can easily limit home series for teams more likely to experience inclement weather in the first part of April--that was the point I was making to nine of twelve who was suggesting there were too many cold weather teams top realistically do this. On a separate note, it's been too long since we've had a debate! I miss doing that with you, because you always bring the data, so I always feel like I learn something when we engage.
  20. I was saying here that when the high for a day barely gets above 40, and the low is right around freezing, it's very hard for teams to still do night games. My point was to make it easier for cold weather teams by giving them 3 of the first 4 series on the road, with that one home opening series on a weekend, where scheduling day games is not at all questionable. That's hardly extraordinary.
  21. Sure, weather is variable. That's how you get 3 feet of snow on Halloween one year, but a high of 69 in Montevideo on January 24 in another. The point however is--if someone forced you to place a bet on which day would have a warmer high temperature, April 1 or April 15, absent any other data, literally everyone would say April 15. And yes, single game tickets are a drop in the bucket, but if you can optimize, why wouldn't you? Further, if you're all but forced to play day games during the week in order to minimize the risk of cold temperatures, normal conditions will make that less optimal for TV/radio. BSN has a vested interest in games being watched live, else people do go through the commercials, and that's not beneficial to them. I have to imagine almost no one listens to recorded radio, so WCCO absolutely needs the live audience. When kids are in school, and adults are by and large at work, weekday day games are harder for people to consume. Tailoring a schedule to reduce the need for weekday day games is not going to drive massive revenue growth, but I don't see how it can't drive some.
  22. St Louis, Kansas City, New York, Baltimore, Philly and DC all have average lows for April in the mid-to high 40's; not great, but not like the rest of the teams you list, so strike 7 teams off the "can't host list" right away. The easiest way to do this is to take your 9 weather impacted teams (MIN, BOS, PIT, CLE, CIN, DET, CHC, CWS, COL), and give them one series at home during the first half of April, but make it on a weekend so day games aren't as much of an impediment. Take your 7 borderline teams (STL, KC, NYY, NYM, BAL, PHI, WAS), and have them do 1-3 series at home in the first 2 weeks, with 1-2 on the weekend, and 2 gamers if possible, with an off day for both teams right after the end of the series. The other 14 teams will host 3-4 series in the first 2 weeks, which will tend to skew to midweek a bit more. This isn't that hard to figure out.
