  1. Supposedly Archer is on a pitch count of 80 or so today. Gotta make him throw pitches and get to that pen by the fifth.
  2. I can’t remember, are you the one who called Cave and the offense yesterday? If so, excuse me while I call Vegas.
  3. You know, I thought the Rays were supposed to be all sabrmetrical and whatnot, but then I see that they’ve batted a guy hitting .172 with a .257 OBP leadoff three straight games.
  4. Thank goodness Rogers got pulled. <realizes he was replaced by Belisle> Dammit.
  5. He faced 4 batters and threw 16 pitches, 4 pitches per batter doesn’t seem out of line. He just has gotten no leash at all, so he must feel like he has to be perfect. That’s a lot of pressure to have to pitch under.
  6. 6 of the 9 hitters before Bauers’ homer reached, yet somehow Odorizzi was left in for two more batters AFTER the homer. Molitor does not get it.
  7. Gibson at 102 pitches through 7, but Molitor sends him back out. Color me nervous.
  8. Nice!! Were you in Victoria, and did you make it to the city of Vancouver? Two of my favorite places on earth.
  9. I have no idea if you’re aware, but the below is also Ollie Williams. https://goo.gl/images/uvYMkh
  10. Only issue is that we need a starter for Sunday—I’m guessing Bert Mejia won’t be good to go on two days rest, which is a missed opportunity, in my mind. With Rochester just coming off their all-star break, the rotation could easily have been shuffled to allow him to get Sunday’s start.
  11. Left Coast Baby! Home of some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere.
  12. I want Dozier traded because I’m petrified the Twins would QO him, and he’d accept. Even if he doesn’t, I’m guessing no team will be willing to sign him and lose their pick, so this is the one chance to get something (anything) for him.
  13. The win is nice and all, but I am terrified that this game will be a catalyst for more Bobby Wilson.
  14. This game would appear to be a prime example of the shortcomings of wpa. What kind of credit does Cave get for that catch? The difference between 0-0, 1 out top of the first and 0-0, 0 outs? Or 0-0, 0 outs, and 0-1, 0 outs?
  15. Since June 22, the day after the HBP, Esco is 4 for 41, with 2 doubles. He’s striking out almost 25% of the time, has a .362 OPS, and a -11 wRC+. No one can convince me there isn’t something wrong that needs rest.
  16. Looks like you were low by about 10 percentage points.
  17. Walks are bad sure, but perhaps we can find a middle ground between throwing balls and throwing batting practice.
  18. I can understand not wanting to play your rookie-ish catcher with bad defense when you’re competing for a playoff spot. Since that’s not the case, maybe Garver should play every day, since he might get better with, I don’t know, reps?
  19. I’m not sure why Magill didn’t go yesterday—seems like he would’ve been a good option to soak up some innings to protect the pen.
  20. That's fair! I did that, and it turns out Robbie Grossman was 99th in WAR--he was a top 10 4th outfielder.
  21. Lance Lynn looks decent right now, Rodney has been great. Reed looked real good until Molitor overworked him. The FO has had essentially one FA class, given that 103 loss teams (which is what they inherited) generally don't try and add a bunch of FA's. Let's assume that the FO has $50M or so to play with this offseason--that's where I'm going to judge them. No good FA's this offseason, and I will gladly agree to your assertion that the FO is not doing its job.
  22. Robbie had 0.8 WAR two years ago, and 0.5 last year. He definitely did not look like a replacement player prior to this year. I acknowledge that players get hurt--that's why the FO signed LaMarre to go along with Granite--with the DL now at 10 days, if one of those guys get hurt, you bring them up for defense. The greater point is that it is hard to find good players. There are 90 starting outfielders in MLB--last year only 48 outfielders had a positive WAR. By that definition, Grossman was better than the SECOND best outfielder for 12 teams. There are more positive WAR outfielders this year, but it's still only 63, which means essentially every team is trotting out a sub-replacement level outfielder every day. Also, I'm not sure what about Kepler's .969 OPS against lefties suggests he hasn't figured something out.
  23. He played 158 games in 2015, 134 in 2016, and 141 last year. He plays a physically non-demanding position now, and gets frequent DH days. It seems perfectly reasonable to assume Mauer would be more-or-less as likely to remain healthy as any other player. Morrison has a career .753 OPS, and looked perhaps like he was peaking later in his career. We were all excited for Morrison, especially at $6M. Blaming the FO for Morrison is hindsight at its finest. I'll blame them if they decide to bring him back next year.
  24. Robbie Grossman is 28, and had a .741 OPS last year; .828 in 2016. He has a solid OBP skill. Perfectly acceptable for a guy you don't expect to play a ton, given that the plan was to let Rosario/Buxton/Kepler start every day. It's hard to get quality veterans to agree to be fourth outfielders.
