  1. Supposedly there's some guy named Magill, but I don't think he's pitched since the Bicentennial.
  2. To win an extra inning game on the road, you will have to protect a lead in the last half inning. It's overwhelmingly likely that lead will be less than 3 runs (I don't have numbers, or know how to obtain them, but I have to think well over 90% of extra inning games won by road teams enter the final half inning with a lead of 3 runs or less). Therefore, saving your closer for a save is perfectly logical. Unless you think Rodney should have pitched in the 8th tonight, since, you know, the Twins could have scored 12 runs in the top of the 9th and eliminated the save opportunity.
  3. I said this in another place, but the shifting seems weird to me, as teams shift towards what the hitter wants to do, not what the pitcher is going to try and make him do.
  4. Molitor does not understand the importance of rest for relievers. Falvine is going to have to start locking Pressly, Duke, and Hildenberger in their hotel rooms the game after pitching.
  5. Nice intro Respy. Bobby Wilson is the Mayor of Embarrass, for multiple reasons.
  6. I don't think the Twins are in that spot for next year. Assuming Santana is not picked up, we have less than $30M in 2019 contracts (Reed, Castro, Pineda, Rodney). Assuming maybe $45M to $50M in arbitration and pre-arb deals, we'll be at least $40M under this year's payroll (which is only $7M more than 2011--$120M is not the ceiling). We could absolutely be players for anyone we wanted on the open market. My (admittedly unlikely) dream? Meet with Machado, and give him a 6 year, $240M offer that expires when he walks out the door. Gives him better AAV than he's expecting, plus the chance to get another big contract after his age 32 season. We move him back to third, and have a top 3 of Rosario, Machado, and Escobar. It strengthens us considerably for our Romero/Gonsalves/Rooker/Kiriloff/Lewis wave, with Wade/Arraez/Graterol/Baddoo/Larnach/Rortvedt as cheap depth/trade chips to go for titles as soon as 2020. And all of this is without mentioning Berrios, Polanco, Kepler, Buxton, or Sano.
  7. I do not understand Taylor Motter, he of the career .575 OPS, playing over Jake Cave. It makes no sense for a contending team, it makes no sense for a non-contending team. If Molitor is going to use Motter for anything more than a late-inning laugher mop-up guy, than Falvine needs to DFA him now.
  8. Optimistic for Rooker is September, for Kiriloff is post super-2 next year. Realistic for Rooker is post super-2 next year, and post super-2 2020 for Kiriloff.
  9. Here’s what I don’t understand about shifts, using Duda as the example. Obviously Duda wants to pull the ball, so rather than play a defense designed to deal with his strength, why not pitch him exclusively outside, and play a normal defense? To me it’s like putting 8 guys in coverage against Tom Brady—you’re not going to get any pass rush, so he’s eventually going to find someone. If you shift to the right side that heavily, you have to lean away from pitches that would get hit to the left side, which is exactly what Duda wants.
  10. First off, I hope Sano’s mother has a full and speedy recovery. Second, that could be playing a role in this. For a guy who’s life has been on a generally upward trend for years, sometimes complacency or a sense of entitlement can become a factor (not saying either of those ARE the problem, just they COULD be the problem). Life is short, so enjoy what you have and who you have while you can.
  11. All the credit in the world to Dozier—we need him. That being said, Gleeman a couple weeks ago on GATG talked about the research he did that showed Dozier is literally the worst Twin of all time in close and late situations. Even broken clocks are right twice a day.
  12. Dozier OPS at .913 in the last 15 games BEFORE today. Must be the second half.
  13. I honestly have on idea what the answer to the following is; how hard (i.e. how much more time would it take) is it to let someone see replays without seeing the ump make the call?
  14. So give him one, maybe two. If multiple in-inning changes is going to be the norm, there needs to be something done to reduce the amount of dead time.
  15. Agreed—that update they pushed out a couple weeks ago is horrific.
  16. Because pitchers mounds vary so much from stadium to stadium and game to game?
  17. It’d be only a few minutes at most, but what about a rule change stating pitchers coming directly from the bullpen do not get warm up pitches on the mound, since they’re theoretically ready to go. An exception for replacing an injured pitcher could be allowed.
  18. Well the 7th inning rally was just so post hoc ergo propter hoc as concerns a bunt, why not double down.
  19. This Castillo guy seems to struggle with his control.
  20. You’re all being way to hard on the Twins as it concerns Belisle. It’s not like the team we’re chasing, who’s only weakness is their bullpen, decided Belisle wasn’t cutting it for them and cut him, allowing the Twins to sign him.
  21. What is going on? Dozier’s strikeout broke both game day and espn.
