  1. Yeah I apologize for almost turning this into a He-who-must-not-be-named thread. To keep it on track.. I like having Rosario up. He has shown/done more than some other guys that get to stay in the lineup. Whether it's 50 at bats or 500 until his BA drops from .280 to .208 and he doesn't get an XBH in a month and a half and makes a ton of rookie mistakes than leave him in. Keep him up unless it becomes obvious he doesn't belong here at all

  3. So... 6-7 years from now? Joe Mauer is the Minnesota version of Derek Jeter. He'll be in the lineup despite his numbers until he retires.
  4. I do like that this definitely spices things up a bit for Stannis. As far as those just invested in the show, it gives them a little deeper Stannis than what we have seen with him so far, which is frankly good for TV.
  5. One of the guys that is on the fence that I would really like to see the Twins keep is Fien.
  6. Wow. If some people were upset about the Sansa / Ramsey / Theon scene they are going to be REALLY upset about last night's episode. That scene with Stannis and his daughter was pretty brutal.
  7. We were in Boston all week and we listened to sports radio there a decent amount and there's no doubt there that their pessimism is high. It kind of put things into perspective a bit, listening to the radio guys go on and on about what was wrong and why they are playing so badly and we are sitting over here like.. Whe was the last time we lost 2 in a row? Now we are threatening to lose our reign of having the best record in the AL!
  8. I really enjoyed this article. Through the sheer act of reading written words, my feelings of optimism and positive attitude towards the Twins was raised even higher than it currently is. I think there's something to be said for that.
  9. Here is a question though: Is this splurge from Hunter and the positive energy that seems to be radiating so far out of him (far enough to clear the green monstah) only a consequence of him leaving and coming back? If he had been here the whole time, I'm not sure things would be as they are now. Either way, had my #48 jersey on tonight in Fenway and it felt damn good to be wearing it.
  10. Well, we might. A Fenway security dude told us getting tickets would be really easy for tomorrow's day game. We had planned on doing some Boston sight seeing in the morning. We shall see what happens. Also, just know that seeing Hicks getting robbed stung pretty awfully from 100 feet away.
  11. I'm surprised Chief didn't see this and give one of his quick witted comments. We are indeed in Boston and are highly concerned about the weather potentially 'raining on our parade.' We shall see. So far the game that was rained out happened to be the 1 game of the series we didn't buy tickets for... Let's hope we get to see the 3 games we came to see. If not, there may be something else in this town to keep us occupied.
  12. I wish I would have seen this thread earlier. I am a huge fan of the novels as well as the show. Here is my 2 cents on what's been discussed on the previous 7 pages 1. If you are concerned about spoiling the show, take note that the show is not only changing some things from the books, they are also essentially caught up to the novels. That means for someone who has read the novels, even then you are unsure about what will happen each week. 2. I do agree that I found myself looking forward to certain character POVs and dreading chapters of characters that were rather uninteresting. Many times the only emotionally appealing thing about certain chapters was the 'suspenseful' one liners that ended each chapter. 3. Lena Headey is phenomenal. 4. Despite the frustrating chapters in the novel, I still really enjoy them. Just the sheer size of this universe and the epiceness of the story is really appealing to me.
  13. Neil Allen = Our modern day equivalent of Lou Brown. I would have given this title to Molitor, but the offense hasn't been sitting at the bottom of the barrell quite like the pitching has in recent years. When you can somehow take a rag tag group and make them pitch as respectfully as they have, you deserve some credit.
  14. Why not give ol' Phil Hughes a shout out? We could probably use a turn-around there.
  15. That has got to be one of the more frustrating, if not the most frustrating loss of the season. Trying to close out a series against the Tigers and they take a 7-3 lead and things just catastrophically fall apart.
  16. That's precisely why I quoted that Dr. Evil photo..... "Fun" I figured that could be re-posted every page or so for the next 5 months
  17. I understand people are upset, and should be granted the freedom to express their frustration, but there are legal and illegal ways of doing that. That is why over 200 people have been arrested. I guess they would probably argue that the legal avenues of such expressions don't accomplish much. Will this though? Will this change anything? If anything, it gives cops more authority as they now are told to increase their aggression to stop the rioting.
  18. How could you possible know which statistic to trust?
  19. Probably rightfully so. I came in here dropping 11 games worth of ERA and a point was made that the Twins probably made similar 11-game stretches in previous 90-loss seasons, which is most likely true. So basically my point boils down to the fact that ignoring deeper statistics.. If your starting pitchers give up less runs then you will win more games...haha. Ladies and Gentlemen, Captain Obvious has arrived. But one could argue whether or not it is even necessary to look past that with all of the fancy statistics.
  20. I understand only 11 games of ERA isn't a very solid statistic. But at face value, the starters have pitched slightly better and they have a winning record. One could argue that you don't need to look past that. I'm not completely schooled in all of the deeper statistics. When you say they had the biggest ERA-FIP discrepancy during that time, are you essentially saying that their ERA is further from the "truth" than that of other teams?
  21. Something that doesn't pop up on a stat sheet is the simple fact that it was just plain nice to see that type of game from Mauer last night. An RBI double and a go-ahead two-run triple in the 11th inning? That is what you should expect more often for that kind of money. Also, I love the beard.
  22. I just did the math. Last 11 games: The starters are posting an ERA of 3.17. The K/BB ratio isn't through the roof, but that ERA though (I guess the correct analogy for a good ERA would be through the floor). Does anyone have handy a correlation between starting pitching ERA and Win % ? I was going to make the assumption that the correlation is high but my father tought me better about making groundless assumptions
  23. Was talking with my parents the other day (USAFChief and my lovely mother) and we were talking about House of Cards and it dawned on me. Isn't a congressman serving his/her private interests or the private interests of a small number of people the EXACT opposite of their job description?
