  1. The $15M includes the pro-rated signing bonus. He signed a 6yr/$80M contract with a $6M Signing Bonus. His actual salary is $14M.
  2. For Round 1 they apparently changed the format from 2-2-1 to 2-3 so instead of the higher seeded team starting out at home they actually start on the road for the first 2 games. This was done to cut down the days off needed for travel days to shorten the overall length needed for the postseason. It looks like the 7 game series will still follow the 2-3-2 format that has been used in the past.
  3. Here is my Dream Finish for the American League: Oakland Beats Texas to win the AL West New York Loses and Baltimore wins forcing a game 163 on Thursday Baltimore wins game 163 to win the AL East Texas beats New York in Wild Card game on Friday thus eliminating New York from the playoffs. If the above happens, I believe that Baltimore would be the #1 seed (due to winning extra game) and would host Texas in the ALDS and Oakland would host Detroit.
  4. @ J-Dog, your scenarios between the Yankees and Orioles are incorrect. The Yankees can only clinch the Division tonight with a win AND Baltimore Loss. Their situation is the same as the Rangers/A's except they aren't playing each other. The Yankees only have a 1 game lead over the Orioles with 2 games to go. Also the only game 163 possibilities would be between the Yankees vs. Orioles and Cardinals vs. Dodgers for the NL Wild Card. The Rangers and A's won't be in a game 163 situation since they are playing each other there is no possibility of a tie.
  5. With that lineup I don't see how we can win today. There is absolutely no power in that lineup. It's not good when all 3 of our 20+ HR hitters are not playing.
  6. One thing that I think is going against Trout is that his offense has really tailed off that last month. He was hitting .345 on August 23rd. His BA has dropped 20pts over the last 28 games. Whereas Cabrera is improving as the season goes on.
  7. While it is true that the batter has no control over who or how many runners are on base when he comes up to bat, he does have direct control over driving the runners in when he does come up to bat. FYI, Cabrera only has 6 SF this year, so 127 of his RBIs were the result of a hit. For Runs Scored you are relying on someone else to assist you in scoring unless you hit a HR (or steal home).
  8. Because the offensive triple crown is all done with the bat. It is the things that the Batter can directly control.
  9. They can't make an Qualifying offer to Liriano (the can but it won't net compensation) as he doesn't qualify since he wasn't with the White Sox for the whole season.
  10. Sorry to say that the Twins just completed their final series against the White Sox and it was a sweep for the Pale Hose.
  11. It was done against the Twins this year twice in one game. I don't remember the opponent but I do remember that the move didn't benefit the fielding team either time.
  12. Nope. Here are is K rates by month: March/April: 10.8 May: 11.1 June: 20 July: 15.1 August: 12.6 Sept/Oct.: 18.4
  13. While I agree that there is a correlation between run differential and won loss record, the reason that Baltimore is performing much better with a -22 RD is because they are 25-7 in 1 run games. They win the close games.
  14. I find it interesting that we will now play our division opponents 19 times instead of 18. Why didn't they take those extra 4 games and divy them up with the 2 East teams and 2 West teams that we only play 6 times (the other 8 teams we play 7 times)? I don't like that we play the Yankees 7 times between July 1st and the ASG.
  15. While I agree that it is too early to be talking extension, but next offseason I would consider it. $7M is pretty reasonable even he is the full time DH by then.
  16. Actually, according to Souhan, Ryan said the "Elite FA Pitching Market is thin"
  17. First, I don't think anybody will claim an injured player (especially one who is going to miss and entire year). I would be very surprised if it happens. 2nd, I don't think an injured player would elect to become a minor league FA. $72k is still better than nothing. Teams claim/sign injured players...think TEX gave Brandon Webb a 2 yr deal & he never pitched. It doesnt take up a roster spot if you're put on 60 day DL...what's the risk If he did clear waivers, I think he automatically becomes a FA.....MN/ROC would have to sign him We'll see what happens.

  19. I don't think this is the case. He would have to be on the ML Roster to go on the 60 Day DL. Since he is in the minors, I don't believe that they can do that. I believe last year Blomberg was on the 40-man roster all year even though he was out with an injury all season. If you are injured in minor leagues, you are correct that they cannot be 60 day'd on 40 man roster. However, next spring he is still vieing for a spot on the team & can be moved to 60 day when the season starts but he also wont be charged an option year right away. It will get Oliveros a full salary share also for the time on the DL (minimum of 500K over the 72K he woulda made in AAA so the injury is a good financial decision!!!) So you think that they should pay him an extra $430k and give him a whole year of ML Service time to recover from TJ surgery? Assuming that they re-sign him it they will outright him to Rochester.

  21. This is common for the Twins and for all teams. Players on the 40-man roster that you KNOW without a doubt are not going to make the Big League Club are amongst the 1st ones sent to minor league camp. This is done so that they don't have to waste service time and money in the event that they get injured and have to be kept on the MLB DL.
  22. So basically they just used the appeal process to postpone the suspension's effective date to the point where 40-man callups could negate its impact on the rotation/roster. Ding-Ding-Ding
  23. @ Jokin, No point in DL him when you can expand rosters in 3 days.
  24. MLBtraderumors is reporting that Boston's Pitcher Felix Doubront was claimed by an unknown team. Rosenthal is suggesting that Boston could be sending Doubront to the Twins as part of a trade for Mauer.
  25. Since Mauer was placed on "Revocable Trade Waivers" it is considered a trade and Mauer retains his veto rights.
