  1. Just looking at those numbers, it's trending up too.... 2015 looks more like an aberration. I don't have the eye to really say, but I wonder if his command is good enough to stay near the corners, and he can get a late break on his pitch forcing a swing.
  2. I don't know what to think about them. I've been watching it for a while now. Very volatile. I'm guessing ultimately it becomes another inflation hedge, like Gold or Silver, but one that cannot be as easily manipulated. That said, the dollar is trending down again. In the short term, inflation protection portfolios make sense. As for the market, I'm wondering if it would be wise to buy some out of money puts. I think that correction is coming very soon.
  3. yeah, got to think Berrios starts in AAA.
  4. yeah, not sure about why they are making the move so soon... and if he's a reliever, that is very a much a wasted pick.
  5. If he can make strides there, that makes his K rate much more palatable. With his power, that's a decent player.
  6. I'm personally more concerned about the K rate. That's not a bad guy to plug in on occasion, but the ceiling seems a bit low if he cannot get more misses. Hopefully that change works magic for him. Results wise, he's gotten the job done thus far.
  7. Might see you on Saturday morning or Sunday. A few of us will be out next weekend, though I think the plan is to drive to Sarasota and catch the away game, but that's in the afternoon.
  8. This is where I disagree. The hitting core is here now. You're right about the pitching in that there's way too many question marks and the likeliness of having a playoff caliber starting 5 to start the season in 2017 is low. But with the hitting core here, they will need to do something or they will squander it. I think it's safe to say that some guys will establish themselves in 2016. The question is how many. If we walk into next season saying Santana and pray for rain... well, yeah, time to spend. If on the other hand, Berrios, Mejia, and Gibson all have good season, then perhaps you don't need to. The truth will likely be somewhere in the middle, but getting one top shelf FA to fill out a negative WAR position in the rotation will likely pay huge dividends. Also, plenty of pitchers have come back from TJ successfully. No reason to write off May just yet.
  9. They like one way opt outs. Not the kind where the team can nullify the contract.
  10. On topic, I think a big splash likely makes sense next season. I guess it depends on how the current pitching crop works out. I suppose Santana continues to be Santana. Hughes could be back to 2014, Gibson could show his 2015 second half, and Mejia could hit the ground running and suddenly we aren't worried about pitching... Then again, unicorns exist, right? So baring everything breaking good, I think they need to pick up one good pitcher, possibly 2. The real problem is cutting bait with the guys who aren't performing while still giving the younger guys a chance.
  11. He's apparently gotten noticeably more attractive too. err.. oh wait, what did I say? does this count as drunken posting?
  12. My understanding is that they can track your search behaviors with cookies. As an example, if I start shopping around for running shoes or electronic devices, the ads will change almost immediately to highlight those items... usually too late, but I'm guessing it's tracking cookies they are keying off of. That's something Brock could answer better than myself. I'm more infrastructure/security. He's a web developer.
  13. Sounds like we need to bring back the baggie.
  14. no worries. I'm not much of a gamer, figured the there would be people in the know with a better answer.
  15. I'll take the mail order bride over the Whitesox ticket ads that keep popping up over here. Don't tell my wife that though.
  16. May goes under the knife this week. Any way of finding out which procedure he's getting?
  17. Probably not a bad idea to bat Buxton and Kepler lower in the order to start the year... now that said, Buxton (I think) is having a good spring and definitely one to keep an eye on. If he hits well to start, I'd bump him up sooner than later.
  18. The 60 day opens up another 40 man spot. Perkins will likely be 60 dayed. May definitely will. Both give an extra 40 man spot to put Park back on. There's no exposure to waivers for the 60 day (I believe). You cannot use 60 day DL in the offseason, which I suspect is why Park got moved, as they were confident he wasn't going to get claimed. Otherwise, they'd have to DFA someone.
  19. I still think the answer is automating ball and strike calls... but who am I? That said, I'd say that framing helps with other things like catching base thieves too. If you aren't being pulled away, it gives you an extra fraction of a second to gun down the runner... I'd imagine that matters.
