  1. And Margot looked like me trying to dive after a ball he had no business laying out for before the Lee throw.
  2. Nobody has ever said defense doesn't count. What we all push back on is your idea that defense outweighs offense. If you combine both offense and defense (since they both count) Jose Miranda has been the much better overall player this year.
  3. For sure. I was just going off the people named in the article. But he's been very good.
  4. You're correct. He was placed on waivers, but continues to play for the Blue Jays. Hit a grand slam on Sunday, in fact.
  5. Margot: Has he been better and/or cheaper than the other options listed? Sure. Has he been a hit for what they were expecting? Halfway. They thought he was going to be their backup CFer. He isn't. He's been forced there because of some injuries, but they don't want him in CF. He's hit lefties while being terrible against righties so that part has been a hit. I wouldn't call Margot a hit, though, when the stated goal is Buxton insurance/complementary piece. He hasn't been that. Santana: I was wrong on Santana for sure. He still isn't very good against righties, but he's held up far better than I expected. Definitely a hit here as I don't think there's anyway they could ask for more out of him at this point. Farmer and DeSclafani very clearly big misses, and I'd say they hit .500 on their FA additions of Margot and Santana.
  6. Yikes. Dude. Just stop. I told you the cutting of payroll wasn't my complaint, the messaging and handling of it is. I literally just told you I thought they should've lied and misled so as to not kill fan engagement. The conversation that you once again jumped into and wanted to steer into your very specific little corner to make a point that I refused to make because you were wrong about me being mad about them lying was about their business decisions AND MESSAGING leading to the loss of attendance, and thus money. The BAM money. The TV money. The attendance money all play into that loss of money. The variable I am claiming resulted in the loss of fans is the horrible marketing/PR/messaging campaign they ran this offseason. I said it was going to hurt their bottom line. It is now hurting their bottom line. The idea that you can look at the 30 mil less in payroll and say there isn't a problem with losing 3 mil in attendance while ignoring the other losses is ridiculous. The Twins planned for the losses of the BAM and TV money. They didn't also plan for the loss of attendance. So the lost attendance revenue is what's directly effecting them making less money than they planned to. At this point you're completely ignoring what I'm actually saying and running with your own narrative. Like usual. So I'm signing off for the day. The Twins business department isn't hitting their projections. Their attendance has been hurt by the bungled offseason. You said that wouldn't happen. I said it would. Believe what you want, but there's no reason we should believe they're happy with the way things are going financially this season.
  7. What about your precious BAM money they lost? Conveniently leaving that out now that it doesn't fit your narrative? How much was that again? And that's before the loss of TV money. Nice doing business with you today. I'm sure the Twins aren't at all concerned about the lower attendance. All part of the grand plan I'm sure. And, yes, I was very wrong on Polanco and Santana this year. And I'm more than willing to admit that right now. You wanna take a shot at admitting you were wrong about anything or just going to stick with this being the best business plan they could've come up with?
  8. I wouldn't have criticized them for not being transparent. Would some fans? Absolutely. But I personally would not. I'm all over these boards saying they shouldn't say anything they don't absolutely have to. Whether it be about payroll, injuries, anything. PR talk your way around everything. This is not "a bitch about reducing spending not the messaging." I said it the second Falvey told us they were cutting payroll he shouldn't have said it. I argued all offseason that they were completely and utterly bungling the business decisions and messaging and it was going to cost them. Yes, they should have lied and misled. Like every company does. They should have communications and PR people who talked to Falvey, St Peter, and Pohlad before they did public interviews to discuss how they were going to brand and message things. Like every company does. I haven't changed my complaint. My complaint was they screwed up messaging, took a short-term payday, and those things hurt their ability to grow their fanbase by alienating fans and destroying all the momentum they'd built up the second half of last year. And, despite your constant ridicule and insistence that they knew what they were doing, I was right. You spent all offseason fighting against many of us telling us we just didn't understand. Well it sure appears we had a little better idea about what we were talking about than you believed. They "right-sized" themselves right out of millions of dollars just like so many of us said they were doing. I'm done with this conversation. Believe what you want. They screwed up and they're paying for it now.
  9. They dodge and PR speak their way around such questions all the time. Falvey loves to tell us the Pohlads give them everything they need to build a competitive team. This offseason he decided to tell us they were slashing payroll 6 days after the world series and ruin the momentum they'd gained from the playoffs instead of going with the tried and true "we get everything we need." It's ok to admit they completely and utterly botched their offseason messaging. They're paying for it now. I'm not going to get into another debate with you on the business things. Many of us told you they were hurting their bottom line all offseason and you just told us we didn't know business. Now they're down 54,000 fans to this point in the season year over year. They screwed up, and it's costing them millions.
  10. The Twins ended up with a 78-84 record in 2022 and carried a sub-.500 record into the break in 2023. Yet attendance was improving because the team was improving. The team then decided to ruin all their momentum for 2024 by publicly stating early and often that they were cutting payroll. There's no reason to believe they're adding any significant payroll. They didn't sit on any substantial money during the offseason. The team is not spending. Falvey, St Peter, and Pohlad himself told us that. To expect them to spend any more than a couple million more at the deadline is actively ignoring what the team itself has been telling us since November of 2023. They don't have room to add. They've said it over and over.
  11. When the owner of the team goes public saying they're cutting payroll to "right-size their business" there is no reason what-so-ever to believe they are going to get anywhere near their previous payroll. The Twins didn't sit on 25 million during the offseason with a plan to spend it at the deadline instead. No team would do that. They told us they aren't spending as much this year and it's time to start believing them. They aren't spending 150 mil.
  12. Falvey told us all they were slashing payroll the first week of November. The World Series ended November 1. Falvey told us they were cutting payroll November 7th. Season ticket sales didn't have a chance to materialize before Falvey dumped a big old bucket of cold water on the offseason. Announcing a payroll decrease less than a month after you were eliminated from the playoffs after having won your first playoff game and series in basically 2 decades was an awful move, and many of us said at the time it was going to hurt them this season. It was predictable when Falvey first said it, and then they just doubled and tripled down on the worst PR campaign ever as the offseason moved along. 100% agree on Dave St Peter. Mind blowing that he still has that job.
  13. Will be interesting to see if they make any moves for rental players. You'd like to think they're in a better place long-term with where the organization is at and don't need to ensure they get extra control on whoever they bring in. It opens up the options you're looking at if you're willing to deal for rentals. Also lowers the prospect price.
  14. I don't mind the Culpepper pick, but I was hoping for 1 of the catchers at one of these first 2 picks.
  15. They've picked Petty, Prielipp, Soto in that general range the last 3 years, and Canterino just a little later in 2019. I was also hoping for Brecht there, but they do take pitchers early.
  16. Seems to fit their mold. Good contact skills and they'll try to add a little loft to his swing to get to more power. Good athletes who have good contact skills is as good a place as any to start from when drafting later in the first.
  17. Vazquez was the DH before Miranda got scratched. Wallner replaced Miranda in the order, not Vazquez. Miranda getting scratched moved Castro to 2nd, Lee to 3rd, and put Wallner in right.
  18. Bummer the Cardinals are going to have to trade him since he's going to be so pissed at them for mismanaging him, too. I mean, unless you think .05 innings per start is a massive jump for him? He averaged 5.75 innings per start for the Twins last year and is just over 5.8 innings for the Cards. It's almost like you're the one making up whatever reason you want. But to each their own.
  19. @wabene covered the Sonny stuff perfectly. Sonny left because the Twins wouldn't pay him 75 million over 3 years. Francona's pitchers also left for more money. Vogt and the Guardians changed their approach at the plate and it's lead to more power and more runs. That has nothing to do with Francona. They're concentrating on pulling the ball in the air more. Like the Twins. And they're winning more because of it. I'm not a huge Rocco guy. I don't care if he's fired today. But if you're going to put him down at least do some research and make sure you're not mad at him for things you're completely wrong about.
  20. If 25% of the 20 best players on the planet had "hiccups" I'd say it should be pretty well expected that the average MLB regular has a "hiccup" or 2 along the way.
  21. 1. Rocco hasn't changed his approach to pitching, he has better players. He always let good pitchers stay in. Go look at where Berrios used to finish in innings pitched with Rocco around. 2. Terry Francona absolutely looked at stat sheets and made decisions based off them. Go listen to some interviews with him. There's a bunch out there. Even some nice long ones with him and Joe Maddon talking about the use of analytics. Is Cleveland winning more this year because Francona had no more feel for the game left last year, but first time manager Vogt is just a mad genius?
  22. Tanner Scott is almost guaranteed to be dealt. What's he going to cost is the question. But he'd be the move the Twins should make if they're "going for it."
  23. I haven't seen him much in the OF, but if he can be an average defender out there he may be what they hope(d) Martin would/will be.
