  1. Don't disagree with the theory of what you're saying. However, I'm just can't convince myself of the logic of this type of move, given the potentially one-and-done nature of the MLB wildcards. I really don't see us, or maybe any other Central team, overtaking the Royals. So I think that's probably the best available outcome this season. I'd prefer to wait and see if more of the upcoming wave of prospects is enough to get us closer to our goal. If not, then maybe more drastic measures are in order.
  2. I agree wholeheartedly with the last paragraph. When the team is multiple horses away from being serious contenders, adding one horse (Hamels, Tulo, etc.) just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Especially if it means giving up current young and/or high-value players who may well be part of the foundation for the next era in Twins pennant-caliber play. That being said, I would have no problem with adding at least one useful bullpen arm this season, provided the price isn't very high (no more than a mid-level prospect). Same thought regarding a catcher and/or a left-handed power bat. I think it's safe to say that most of us weren't expecting the Twins to be even close to .500 this year after 100 games, so let's enjoy the early preview of things (hopefully) to come. Not much point in grasping for straws quite yet, IMO.
  3. Regarding the last sentence, I might add that the opposition seems to be getting away with this strategy, for the most part. Why he can't, or seemingly won't regularly try to beat the extreme shifts he sees is beyond my ability to comprehend or understand. Until or unless this happens, he's not doing himself or anyone else on the team any favors. Did you mean to say right field? From what I've seen, that doesn't appear to be the problem.
  4. Love that Houdini reference! I think there's a lot of truth to the point you're making. Whether the streak the Twins have been on since the second week of the season is due to luck, skill, or some combination thereof, I say we just enjoy it for as long as we can and stop wondering how or why it's happening. Enjoy the moment, because we don't know how long it will last.
  5. I think that some time in Rochester might be in order. At his age and level of experience, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
  6. That's a very ugly-looking scar!
  7. I agree 100% with the last paragraph. As a diehard myself, I'll almost always watch, given a reasonable opportunity to do so. But until the Brand begins to turn itself around, it's not always going to be an enjoyable experience.
  8. If I do go myself, I would definitely drive (I live just off of 69). Doesn't make much sense to do otherwise from both a time and cost perspective.
  9. Diehard, I live just north of Indy (in Fishers). Seems to me that Nashville is 4.5 or so hours from Indy, going down I-65. Regarding distance or travel time, what I'm not sure of is the stretch on I-24 from Nashville to Chattanooga. While I wasn't specifically considering going down there, its an intriguing thought that I might need to act on. The last two weekends on the list would probably work better for me, more from a planning perspective. I know that flying from Indy to anywhere in the general vicinity is probably cost-prohibitive, which is okay, since I'm quite fine with driving distances like that.
  10. Hard to disagree with the thought process or logic here. IMO, unless something dramatic happens regarding an improved level of play very soon (which I'm not expecting), some of this will start happening by early May. Even if it doesn't, it probably should, especially in regards to the outfield defense and the bullpen, both of which are extremely difficult to watch and/or experience right now. We need some hope, and I have a hard time seeing how the current 25-man roster will be able to generate it. It's easier (at least for me) to feel hopeful in losing if it's with a relatively young roster with a fair amount of potential. It's much more difficult to do with a roster heavily leaning on mediocre to fair veteran players.
  11. Cautiously optimistic here, just like at the start of most every recent season. I'm just hoping (and praying) that the optimism lasts well into the summer months, which would mean longer than it has in the previous four seasons.
  12. While I don't disagree with this thought, I also believe that the late 2015 and 2016 bullpens are likely to be a good deal younger because of all the young power arms that are beginning to knock on the door.
  13. Except that I would replace #3 with the White Sox. I personally have lost most of my animosity towards the Yankees in recent years. Can't state strongly enough how much I disdain the tighty whities (as a franchise).
  14. Very true, Stringer. Also, we can't forget about the pitching side. I think it's highly likely that both Meyer and May spend at least a decent portion of the season in Minnesota, with Berrios lurking in the shadows (September call-up? 2017?). Plus all those power bullpen arms we've been starting to stockpile, Burdi and Reed, for two examples. They should be making some positive noise in the not-too-distant future. It appears to me that the tide has finally started to turn. The roster on opening day may not bear a whole lot of resemblence to what we'll see prior to roster expansion on September 1, IMO.
  15. I would hope he gets the message from whomever is the pitching coach in Rochester. Whether or not he can embrace it and use it effectively is another matter altogether.
  16. The sooner the Byron Buxton era starts, the better! Hopefully before the summer gets too far along.
  17. Without getting into all the various metrics, I think his overall defense is certainly adequate, especially given the positive aspects he brings as an offensive player.
  18. I wouldn't touch that one with a ten-foot pole. Especially, if we had to give up a minor leaguer. I don't think he really offers anything of substance that we don't already have, or will have sometime in the very near future. I think we have more than enough DH-types already. No need for another one.
  19. Have to agree with Stringer here. However, I think the primary reason he could be at the front of the 5th starter pack would be because he's a lefty, whether the Twins care to admit that or not. Whether he can do something constructive with his opportunity, only time will tell.
  20. I can see both sides of this case and don't have any real argument against either one. Being someone who is not that big a metrics guy, plus having never seen him play, I'm more than a little curious about how he could handle AA pitching. While the overall pitching is likely better, it sounds from those who probably know better than I would that Chatty is in more of a hitter's league than Ft. Myers is. That could be an aid in his overall development. I also think we've pretty well gathered that ABW is likely never going to be a high average or OBP guy. In that case, let's try to continue nurturing what he can do well, that being hitting the bejeezus out of a baseball. In the grand scheme of things, nothing terribly wrong with that, IMHO.
  21. Extremely touching! Thanks for sharing your memories.
  22. IMO, I think the best Twins option regarding Pelfrey would be for him to stay healthy and perform well enough during spring training that some other team in dire need of a back of the rotation starter would take a chance on him. If so, I wouldn't request or expect a whole lot coming back our way in a trade. Could probably say the same thing about Millone, too.
