  1. There is still an incredibly long way to go. While props to the FO for moving Hughes to the pen for now, an almost unheard of action, I will want to see what this team looks like the day after the trading deadline. What will they do with Plouffe, Dozier, Nolasco, and Suzuki. And if Ryan makes some moves, will Molitor take advantage. Good grief, Dozier STILL in the two hole? You know Suzuki will return as the starter the minute he is able. Bringing a guy up because of an injury, and celebrating a hot streak by a hitter (who btw I do believe will someday get it) does not a rebuild make. What of Park? His travails have flown under the radar completely. Basically, I hope you are right. And it's a long way to the trading deadline, but it's even farther to getting this mess straightened out! Call me pessimistic if you like. You can take the last 4 days as an indicator, I will take the last twenty years!
  2. Just a perusal of the column leaves me with the impression that money played a large part in Ortiz leaving? His stats seemed above average, and he was pretty young. Makes me think that I should read it again, there is no way money could have been the determining factor? We should get over this, Ryan was somewhat new as a GM at the time, and made mistakes. He has learned and adjusted! How do I know? He now keeps all DH type players on the team, and will even bring some in from other countries. True it causes a few glitches on defense, but most baseball games are won by hitting, not pitching or defense.
  3. Two points. I can't say I follow other teams moves, so maybe this is more widespread than I know. That said, almost all Twins moves are reactionary. Barring an injury, it's very difficult to lose your job once you get ensconced as a regular. Also, in a perfect world Buxton could have easily used another month in Rochester. But the Twins perfect world evaporated with decisions made late in 2015. The Twins are so far past painting themselves in a corner, they are now standing on the top of the paint can, while needing to go to the bathroom. Btw, hit Buxton nine, reducing the pressure for now is more important than more AB's, or a Twins win!
  4. As much as I dislike decisions Ryan has made, the next example being our new $13M a year long reliever, and our almost historic inability to develop middle infielders and SP, I tend to agree with DJ. What the last twenty years tell us is that Ryan should go. This season is simply icing on the cake. What those years appear to also tell us is that the Pohlads have no desire to win anywhere else than on the P&L. Some of this is obvious by the retention of almost the entire management staff regardless of the W/L record, and some by the rarer than a hens tooth siting of a Pohlad. While TSF is now a catchphrase, the other significant part of that interview was simply anyone quoting him on anything. St. Peter is there to decide what kind of food they sell, and how much to charge for beer. Until something drastically affects the bottom line, no changes are forthcoming. And sadly if they do, the marching orders will be "get that bottom line up"!
  5. I am hoping the negativity police slept in, I finished this on TiVo this morning. Wow. What an ending. But nothing will hide the fact this is a god awful baseball team! Sheesh
  6. Dick\Roy have already mentioned how Miley has patterned himself after the legendary Pat Dean!
  7. Is it too early to declare Robbie Grossman the greatest Twin ever? Or should we wait another week?
  8. I have been in the Battlefords more than once, on the way to Wainwright. But the pride of N. Battleford escapes me! For some reason I remember a nice big triangular intersection, but no statue?
  9. I like my dim sum over easy with hash browns! I hope the FO understand the cost of waiting on Pat Dean. His Cy Young award will make him double in price. It has been years since I saw a soft tossing lefty dominate in that fashion. We have to go all the way back to the Milone, O'Rourke, Duensing, and Thielbar eras. Ahhh those were the days my friend! (I always knew they'd end........)
  10. I don't disagree with anything you say. But as much as I (and Brock) would like to believe, there are probably more readers of the Sunday Trib, than TD, The Pioneer Press, and the Madelia Messenger combined. And it's a step forward, and up for the beat writers to join in the fray. All beat writers tread a fine line, and this is as close as they came to crossing it, LEN3 and Millers most controversial pieces normally run towards the "best seafood in Ft. Meyers" variety. Speaking only for myself, I could write a very opinionated, somewhat factual, and blistering piece on the last twenty years that this FO has put fans through. I could write on the faux pennant runs, beating up on a consistently weak division, only to have our asses regularly handed to us in the playoffs, of signing endless extensions to players after a career year, to signing a DH to a team with about ten of them already, and on and on and on. And the view count would approximate Doziers OBP. There is no doubt that people on this board are avid baseball fans, and many are far far more knowledgeable than I, but we are often preaching to the choir, and soothing our inner beasts!
  11. Phil Miller, LEN3, Jim Souhan, and Patrick Reusse address their thoughts on the various decisions, luck, and wishful thinking that led Jim Pohlad to utter the three most famous words since Alfred E Neuman coined the phrase, "what, me worry?" I thought the beat writers were a little more forthcoming than usual, and the opinion writers about per usual. Reusse was pretty hard on the FO in several comments, as well someone should be. To paraphrase Rod Sterling "I offer for your consideration" >>>>>>> http://www.startribune.com/total-system-failure-how-everything-fell-apart-for-the-twins/381146221/
  12. Does he have to go back to Rochester like the rest of em?
  13. That's exactly what my doctor said it should be!
  14. I don't disagree with this to a point. They would bring in something. But with the dearth of pitching here, and this is sad to say, these two are two of the better. Sheesh. Park I agree with. I have a lot of qualms over him, plus to us he is simply a DH.
  15. What happened to Berrios? A month in Mpls and he implodes? Lost confidence? Trying to change his style,or pitch selection?
  16. Personally I think the trading criteria should be "how can I straighten out our own roster, and our 40 man" not what can I get in return. If you are waiting for return on this years version of the Twins, next years will look much the same.TR is either going to have to acquire some proactive agression from somewhere, or about the best you can hope for is Buxton, a couple middle of the pen moves, and maybe Kepler. That is not going to solve the Twins!
  17. Milford IA:). I remember Biff, he used to have breakfast at The Picadilly every morning. Margie would make sure his eggs were just right. I always wondered why he looked so sad, it was that damn butterfly!
  18. Shakespeare's legacy is still save, but I liked it anyway!
  19. All teams take an individual's successes, shot term or long, and celebrate them, and of course market them. It's how they sell tickets. The difference in the Twins vs many other clubs, is they seem to believe the short term blips in a players production is the real thing, despite no history or rationale to encourage that optimism. See Suzuki, Willingham, (for his age), Jepsen and others. My belief in that is based on their continually signing extensions, or keeping them past their sell high date, and then having to sit on someone who is not what they paid for. If that is not the case, the alternative is worse. They did know the guys was in a positive bubble, and still paid him for the bubble. Players aren't stupid, they see tons of HR's hit by big strong guys like Sano, Park, Arcia, and know they cannot match that. But then they see a Dozier, not only getting a nice contract but management adulation, and until the recent benching after a 5 month slump, solid playing time, and they think "I could do that". And it alters their approach. And after what the radio guys described as a nice Dozier pitch in the first inning yesterday, all the talk and video clips on his changed approach are just that. Talk!
  20. What? You don't like horses? Or Robin? The Boy Wonder was an assistant Super Hero. What's not to like?
  21. What is Robin doing with Hannahs horse, or Mr.Ed? I can't tell, all horse look the same to me!
  22. Are you saying I can get my Tommy Milone jersey out of storage.,
  23. I am surprised at the angst here. last nights game was yet another example that t this isn't as far fetched as thought. For example some of the '81 pitchers might not be memorable, but I cannot see how any starting staff anywhere can be this pathetic. We're not talking losing, we are talking getting to the 5th inning. I don't know if Reusse was comparing careers or career paths, or "in this time frame", but in this time frame, this team is becoming a legend in its own time frame. As for Sano, I am a fan. I drove to Beloit to watch him play. But his efforts this year are not good, and his effort over the winter is visible. I imagine Ryan did him no favors this winter, but I am not sure it would have mattered. He has some growing up to do, mentally. Park? Far far from sold on him. The power is there, his glove is meh, and his technique at 1st base is high school level at best.
