  1. Clutching the agony of defeat from the thrill of victory since 2019...
  2. Sort of a problem for the staff as a whole....
  3. The only strike call out of the zone so far was strike 3 to Wallner, but, yes, so far everything on the edges has been called a strike.
  4. Buxton, Kirilloff and Castro are givens once eligible to return, with Luplow being sent out. I think the toughest call is if/when Gordon is ready - he is out of options - but I guess I can see Wallner getting sent down again.
  5. Maybe the networks should just shut the strike zone box off on the broadcasts so we fans can just watch the game. If you want to see the most accurate strike zone box graphic, check out Baseball Savant's illustrator function.
  6. Analytics has a place in the game, dating back to at least the early 70's, but sometimes the flow of the game has to be taken into consideration. PHing for a RH batter who is 2-3 when the other team brings in a tough RHP, and vice versa, is not always the correct call. Same with pitching, if the SP is coasting through 6 or 7, give him 1 or 2 batters into the next inning to see if he's still got it. Sometimes the gut overrules the spreadsheet, sometimes not. But sometimes you gotta let it play out.
  7. Figured the Twins would take 2 of 3, just figured it would be Friday & Saturday. And sure didn't see 6.1 perfect innings out of Keuchel, not even against Pittsburgh.
  8. I think he needs a handful of games in AAA to get his timing down and get game reps in CF.
  9. OBP & SLG to name a couple. All rate stats are based on minimum number of PA or IP. Very soon there will be very, very few qualifiers for ERA (which modern stat heads don't care about anyway) as most MLB starters are 5 and done, and with the 5 man (and maybe soon 6 man) rotations most don't get 30 starts a season. Last season for example, there were 45 MLB pitchers who qualified for the ERA title, 1.5 per team.
  10. Duran only threw two 4 seamers (according to Gameday), the rest were curveballs and splitters. Gave up the hit/error on a hanging curve. But he escaped with no damage done, hopefully a mental re-set. Hopefully for Jax as well.
  11. Thanks, watching on Gameday, says Farmer still LF
  12. And now starts Rocco's nightly substitution insanity.
  13. Would probably have been a better idea....
  14. It wasn't pretty, but 6 shut out innings from Lopez.
  15. I also think Gray is the only pitcher on the team (Maeda also??) allowed to call his own pitches. Seems like he's made the necessary adjustments and the catchers appear to be onboard with his game plan.
  16. Yes, Duran (and others) has pitched a lot of high leverage innings, but this is MLB 2023, players are in better condition then generations past. If a TD member can find the info stated in the article, so can the Twins, and take measures to correct it. Here's my take; as good as the teams catching might be by the metrics, I think the collective pitch calling has been questionable overall. There have been a lot of hard hit 0-2 pitches off of almost every pitcher, which means either the pitchers are tipping their pitches (not likely ALL of them) or the pitch calling has gotten predictable. If a batter looks silly against the heater, don't speed his bat up by throwing off-speed, climb the ladder with the fastball, start the AB with the off-speed stuff and then bring the heat, etc... Too many talented pitchers on this roster for them to be getting hit hard when ahead in the count.
  17. Belt-high, center-cut...very few MLB players miss those.
  18. I cheated and was very surprised. I will not answer for now.
