According to Baseball Savant, Kepler hit a ball 115.4 MPH against Michael Soroka on 4-25, but it was for an out. Wallner also hit a ball 114.3 against Zach Wheeler on 7-23, but it was also for an out. Correa had a single that was hit 113.9 MPH against Jose Urena on 5-24 that was the next hardest hit base hit, so the 6th hardest for a base hit, tied for 9th hardest hit ball overall (Larnach also hit a ball 113.9 but was an out.)

So did Punto, Lew Ford and any number of Gardy's Gamers. Rosario also brought bad baserunning, bad routes to fly balls, a below average arm, and questionable plate appearances.

I don't buy that, he's only 25 years old. I think the league adjusted to him (less fastballs) and he was unable to make his own adjustments because he didn't have a healthy lower body (if you don't think having a healthy lower body is important see Buxton, Byron 2023). Hopefully a full off-season to rehab, concentrate on agility instead of bulk, and study video will pay big dividends for Lewis, and therefore, the Twins. Might want to check the "I don't do slumps" ego a little bit also...

So Correa should make less because he plays in Minnesota? WAR isn't variable because of who a player plays for, neither should any value assigned to it. FanGraphs assigning a $$$ value to WAR is by no means perfect, but it's a good way of seeing if a team is getting value out of a player, and by the current value assigned to WAR and your own statement of getting paid by performance, Correa earned his paycheck last season
-
According FanGraphs, Correa's 4.3 fWAR was worth $34.2 MM last year, against a real salary of $33.3 MM. So by your own quote in another thread, he is worthy of his salary: "PERFORMANCE BASED PAY .. Well, there's an idea. Why doesn't every player get paid based on performance? Give everyone a base salary and pay them on performance based on everyone else. Naw, that would make too much sense .." - saviking 12/14/24 09:50 a.m. Agree or not, FanGraphs formula of assigning a $$$ value to WAR is widely accepted when talking about player value.

Miranda had the second most appearances batting in the clean-up position, followed by Wallner. Wallner (19 games)- .299/.390/.537 (.927 OPS) 3HR, 11 RBI, 25/5 K/BB Miranda (35 games) - .339/.362/.515 (.877 OPS) 2 HR, 23 RBI, 21/5 K/BB Lewis (17 games) - .167/.247/.379 (.626 OPS) 4 HR, 9 RBI, 20/7 K/BB

So, the players the Twins have aren't good enough to play here, but some other team should take them so they can play them? If we as fans think that several players aren't worth the salary they are being paid, then I'm quite positive that MLB executives that do this for a living probably know this as well [insert sarcasm emoji here]. Falvey/Zoll/Adler can't force another team to make a trade. Falvey has put together a good roster with a good mix of young affordable players, veterans earning a fair MLB salary and superstars earning mega millions. That being said, a combination of injuries, under-performance and young players not reaching their projected potential has hurt this team. Where this falls - ownership, front office, coaching or the players themselves is what needs to be addressed and fixed.

Correa is a 30 year-old SS coming off of consecutive years with foot injuries, an ankle that raised red-flags during his FA signing period and has no-trade protection through his age 33 season (2028). He's not going anywhere this off-season, he needs a healthy year to show he's worth his contract and the team has no other viable option at SS. The caveat to this being is that the team is supposedly for sale, so he also needs to show potential buyers he's worth their investment - a good season and the new owners can build around him, a bad season and the new owners can work with Correa to find him a new home, after all, they didn't sign him.

Twins Listening On Trade Inquiries About Pablo Lopez
mnfireman replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
With the team supposedly up for sale, I don't think any of the "big ticket" players should be traded, that would be like buying a house only to find out the previous owner sold off all the appliances... -
Twins Listening On Trade Inquiries About Pablo Lopez
mnfireman replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
By your logic he should have taken the QO - $21.1 MM is more than $20 MM/ year. Players want long term security, even if it means a lower AAV. We don't know what he and his agent were asking for and I never said he would sign for 5/$70 mm, which is not 40% less than he signed for, 5/$60MM would be, I said if he had an offer over 3 years he probably would have taken it. Walker could very well be the exception, but most MLB position players stats start to drop off pretty quick after age 36-37, whether it be due to eroding skills or injury. -

The 3 year deal he just signed covers his age 34-36 seasons, he more than likely doesn't get another contract at age 37, much less at $15 MM/year. If he had an offer for more than 3 years he probably would have taken it. -

Even if you used Baseball Reference, SWR had 2.0 WAR compared to Berrios 2.2 WAR - literally a wash and still a huge cost savings. Plus SWR isn't a FA until 2031. -

You are asking this question in an article about a player THIS front office acquired in a half way decent trade.....LOL -
Twins Listening On Trade Inquiries About Pablo Lopez

The ol' Hot Stove is very cold this year....Falvey has stated multiple times he gets asked about the availability of all players and, in good faith, listens to the other teams pitch. I look at TD everyday for one reason or another, but lately its just been the same series of articles (i.e. the Ishbia's, trade player X, extend player X) only written by each writer/contributor. However, some of the Payroll Blueprints give me a good chuckle... -
Agree 100%. Your best players do not sit, give them a chance against same-handed pitching.

Juan Soto earned around $80 MM while under team control, Vlad Guerrero will have earned around $75 MM while under team control; if the team thinks that Jenkins and/or Emma are these types of talent, those are the starting figures on a 6 year deal (team control). To get the deals out to 8 or 10 years another $40 - $80 MM ($20 MM/year) would have to be added - 8 years/$120 MM could be very team/player friendly and both players could still hit the FA market at age 29/30. Let's get the ownership issue figured out first...

This is what happens when players "get the bag": https://twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/minnesota-twins/a-radical-idea-for-twins-to-bolster-fan-goodwill-and-engagement-take-your-hands-out-of-our-pockets-r17466/?do=getNewComment&d=1&id=17466 The battle for New York was at best a "push" last year, but the NYY made the WS and the NYM did not, and that's how NY sports fans judge who's better (both lost to the LAD)...

Of all moves discussed on TD about shedding payroll to get to the supposed $130 MM level, moving Paddack is the only realistic move. Moving Vazquez and Castro would return pennies on the dollar, not to mention that there are no clear cut replacements to trust in those roles. Larnach may get a return, but there also is no clear cut trustworthy replacement to start the season. Julien, Miranda, Lee, Martin, and even Lewis, amongst others, all have question marks and haven't shown that they are ready to be long-term contributors/leaders for this team. ERod, Walker, and Keaschall, amongst others, may be the future, but have ZERO MLB experience and could flame out just as easy as they could become stars. Accept the roster as configured, pray for health and development and accept that todays roster is probably the opening day roster.

A Fresh Look at Baseball: Vision for a Revamped MLB Schedule
mnfireman commented on rogrulz30's blog entry in "And we'll see ya' ... tomorrow night."
If the season starts on March 23, the first 16 week break would be the week of July 13. Take the All-Star break and start back up on July 21, the season would end on November 8. Starting the WS the weekend after Thanksgiving doesn't seem feasible.
