  1. Hit the nail on the head here. This is what I struggle with, the notion that Buxton is a sure thing and completely untouchable. There is absolutely a valid argument right now that you don't trade him because the return just plain wouldn't be as much as you want or think. THAT is the only reason I wouldn't entertain it at this point. With what we know right NOW, TODAY, I don't know how you can put his value a whole lot higher than Hicks. He certainly has the tools to be considerably better, but nobody knows enough to say.
  2. For the chance to take easily the most glaring, gaping, monumental, catastrophic holes in the lineup (SS) with a player the caliber of Tulo? There aren't a lot of scenarios where I would NOT consider that if I were the Twins. Like Mike said, they've got 50 wins in the bank already; a player like Tulo completely reshuffles the entire lineup, fills a MASSIVE, MASSIVE hole in the lineup and in the field. And I'm a major Gibson fan.
  3. I'm prepared for 3-6. This will be a tough road trip.
  4. What in the world would they get for Torii Hunter?? Right now, LOVE the outfield of Hunter-Hicks-Rosario. Great defensive outfield and one that is looking halfway decent offensively. Stick with what works. This is working
  5. I'm pulling for Hicks, no doubt about it. Buxton has been LONG assumed to be "the guy" and he's got the tools to do just that but Hicks has some value, for sure. Here's hoping that he puts together a great second half and finds a home somewhere on the 25-man roster. I doubt he ever garners much trade value but who knows at this point.
  6. That confused me too. So what is the real story? Great arm, more than enough to stick at SS? Or not exactly, and a better fit for 2B? Love the potential with the bat, just hope there's a position for him sooner than later where he can contribute with the Twins.
  7. There have been some BAD swing and misses in his short time so far. Yikes. Young man has to learn sooner or later though. It's great so far that it really hasn't cost the Twins lately as they've won 3 in a row here.
  8. Another player to watch in the second half, or so it would appear: David Hurlbut After he moved up from Ft Myers to Chat, he had two rough outings but since then: 3-0, 1.71 ERA, a 0.90 WHIP, and 13K/4BB ratio Is he a legit prospect? It's also a plus that he's a lefthander. He's not on the current Top 20 obviously.
  9. Good to see Felix Jorge cranking it up. Hopefully he gets to Ft Myers soon and we see what he can do there. He's got nine Q Starts in a row and really hasn't had a terrible outing all year. Overall, a number of guys that will be moving up soon and it'll be fun watching them in the second half to see how they fare.
  10. For a lefty ace like Sale? I'd give the Sox just about whatever they wanted. The obvious dilemma would be potentially facing whichever prospects you gave them so often because they're in the same division. That would make it a tough pill to swallow, but probably still worth it.
  11. These things have a way of taking care of themselves over time. You don't like the logjam of pitchers at various levels in the organization, starting at the top? Injuries and/or ineffectiveness usually takes care of these things. For example, I would highly doubt that by even July 1 the Twins will have a starting rotation that consists of Hughes, Gibson, May, Pelfrey, and Nolasco. Be patient. These things take care of themselves more often than not.
  12. More often than not, I would be in complete agreement with this line of thinking. We sure do love our prospects, don't we? The chance to win doesn't come around very often. If things develop a certain way and there are one or two glaring holes, some viable trade candidates that can fill those holes and a willing trade participant, you have to take that chance. Virtually no prospect is "can't miss". If you have the chance to win by picking up a PROVEN MLB commodity, you need to take that chance and part with a prospect or two. Sure, the Twins have a few that are likely "untouchable", which is fine. But you aren't going to get something for nothing.
  13. I disagree. You said "The way Gibson is pitching...", while at the same time you're citing his entire season numbers. Since May 1, in 5 starts, he's boasting a 1.25 ERA, 21K/5BB, and is 3-1 while averaging over 7 innings per start. 5 starts may not be a huge sample size but it's more than just a 1-2 game hot streak. Ace? Probably not. Probably not close. But #3 or #4? That's a tough argument. I'd love to see a staff where you're getting the above numbers from you #4 starter.
  14. I've never understood the widespread vitriol towards Hicks. Perhaps it's because he was a First Round draft choice? As was stated earlier, he's playing almost elite defense right now and his at-bats are light years better than the last few failed seasons. I agree, start him every day, bat him 7-8th and see where things are at when it comes to the AS break. I think he still has a very good chance to be, at the very least, an asset that they can do something with down the road.
  15. Still just 22 years old. His development as of late has been pretty impressive. Let's hope he keeps it rolling
  16. Apologies if this is slightly off-topic but I was wondering what's the latest with Luke Bard? I've tried poking around the net and can't find anything! Good update, Seth! Nice work!
  17. Really enjoyed Keith back in the days with Dan Patrick on ESPN. That was a LOOOOONG time ago unfortunately.
  18. Agree with Platoon on Hicks; he looks pretty solid in the 6 games he's gotten the starting nod here lately. 7-for-19, 2 BB, 6 RBI's in 6 starts There's still a lot of talent there, I think he puts it together enough to be on the 25-man roster for a while, just not sure what position yet.
  19. Not to pick on your post specifically but I had to chuckle at the "too slow" comment. I think you're probably right, he's likely too slow, and yet there are some posters here that are so in love with whatever it is that Pinto has done up to this point that they would put HIM in the outfield. At first glance, I couldn't FATHOM a situation where Pinto could beat Plouffe in a foot race. I would have to think Plouffe would be a substandard outfielder, and yet light years better than Pinto.
  20. Selfishly, I'd love to see the Twins AAA affiliate come to Vegas but not if it's to play at Cashman Field. It's a dump, and it's in a terrible location. Periodically, talk comes up about building a new stadium for someone's AAA team but it never comes to fruition. It's the Mets now and I remember the Blue Jays a few years ago threatening to leave if they didn't build a new stadium. Bye bye... On a side note, I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw Bobby Abreu heading out to RF Saturday night (I had a friend in from out of town that wanted to go to a game for some reason, only my second AAA game at Cashman in 10 years). Bobby frickin' Abreu. WTF....
  21. I'd like to see Meyer have more than one game in a row in which he doesn't walk a handful of players or take 90+ pitches to get through 4-5 innings. No doubt, the last start looked outstanding but the two starts before that: August 9: 2.0 Innings, 64 pitches, 2 BB August 14: 3.2 Innings, 84 pitches, 3 BB With as good of stuff as he has, how can he possibly be so inefficient? Another thing I've been wondering.... If Pinto is as substandard behind the plate as it sounds like many think he is, is that hurting someone like Meyer from really reaching his potential?
  22. I'm sure you're 100% correct and to top things off, I admittedly don't intimately know all the nuances of the 40-man roster. I'm just saying that of all the prospects the Twins have in the minors right now, Rosario is one that it seems is most widely assumed to be a lock for success in the majors and I think it's far from a given.
  23. I seem to be in the minority but I'm not sure what Rosario has done to warrant anything "guaranteed" that many others want to anoint him with. I know he's been hot lately but I need to see more before I see him as a long term solution, at ANY position in the majors at this point. Good grief, in NB his OBP is like 120 points less than Aaron Hicks, a guy many seem to think has been left for dead.
