  1. Yeah, this makes the most sense.
  2. Well, here's hoping he keeps the Diamond/Walters thing going.
  3. Wow, not so good at reading comprehension, are you?
  4. I could be wrong, but, no, I think he keeps it.
  5. Depends on what you mean by impact. Valencia had a very strong ROY campaign.
  6. As others have pointed out, you just don't throw him out there without any previous experience.
  7. If Liriano's back to starting, who pitches the other 7 innings of his starts? I understand wanting Liriano to break out but he's done nothing the last two years to suggest he should be starting.
  8. They were stretching him out last week. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_20611418/looking-rotation-options-minnesota-twins-stretch-out-brian I think Slama deserves his chance but I don't think I'm as optimistic as you. Turpen in AA has really been intriguing. Interesting to see if they move him up to AAA if Slama comes up.
  9. Actually, his DV was against his common law wife, Stacey. He's married to a different woman, Cheri, in Houston now. The tweets were hacked and were about Cheri, not Stacey. I lived in NY from 99-09 and I don't remember any Knoublach drug stories, other than the Mitchell report. Irregardless, nearly every professional athlete has done drugs, I'd bet every Viking has a much more rigid HGH/steroid program than Knobby was ever on. He was a great Twin, he played hard all the time and resented being on a team that didn't want to compete. I agree with him, those mid-late 90s Twins were an embarrassment. Obviously, DV is a serious matter and he plead guilty to a misdemeanor.
  10. I think they move Duensing to start, call up Slama.
  11. While this draft isn't as good as last years draft, BA still thinks that about 14 of these guys will end up in next years top 100 prospect list. And whoever we take will easily slot in as our second best prospect. I think Houston takes Appel - I've read that ownership wants a big-time pitcher and that Appel has connections with the Astros. I change my mind on this everyday but I think I'd rather have Gausman right now over Buxton. Good numbers in the SEC, has stamina, good mechanics (so I've read). Hopefully, unlike Gibson, he doesn't get TJ surgery and he could get to the bigs by 14. A rotation with Gibson and Gausman could be a fun start (assume we'll be adding another high draft pick again next year). Buxton might take another six years. Look at how slow Hicks' hit tool is taking to develop (and I'm a big Hicks fan, I still think he'll put it all together). Correa is an interesting wildcard though. If the Twins were hoping to spend a little less than slot at #2, I don't think they would take Gausman, who is only a sophomore and could be draft eligible again next year. Would Correa agree to a 4.5m deal and then let the Twins spend more than slot down the line? The other thing that I think we Twins fans aren't focusing on enough is the #32 pick. Our first pick last year was Michael at #30. The #32 pick could be a real nice surprise, esp if Giolito somehow fell to us there (very unlikely). Those extra picks in the top 75 are what is really going to make or break this draft.
  12. I'm not sure they're leaking anything now, we just have more information out there. I don't know, but I could guess that Klaw has sources that might have confirmed to him things like 1) Twins were sending more of their cross checkers to view Buxton than any other player or 2) that they had been in communication with his 'agent' about what kind of signing bonus he's looking for. From that, Klaw might have talked to a Seattle scout who, putting two and two together, gave him his Twins are hoping Buxton falls quote.
  13. Knoublach doesn't live in NY anymore. He lives back in Texas with his family.
  14. Grienke will get paid a lot of money. Both fangraphs and MLBtraderumors have had posts up pointing to Cain's extension as starting points for both Hamels and Grienke. I don't think Grienke gets quite that much but it'll be close. Anibal Sanchez is another pitcher I'd like the Twins to go after. I think he'll be a bit cheaper than Grienke.
  15. What GM has a 100% success rate? Willingham, Carroll, Doumit, Blanton, Grey were solid pick ups. Turpin (Slowey trade) looks good at AA.
  16. If nothing else, he's really made a nice push to stay up here since his call up.
  17. Can't imagine the Twins keep Marquis after this start.
  18. Well, might as well update this again. Sadly, Hicks has struggled the last few weeks and has dropped to .248/.327/.414 on the season. He continues to struggle against righties, although nearly all his walks come batting lefthanded. On the plus side, he went 3 for his last 7, with his 5th HR and his 7th double (he hit 5 HR all of last year). On the plus side, he's 10 for 13 in SB (4th in the EL). His isolated power and isolated walk (for lack of a better term) are good enough if his avg was just a little higher. I have no idea if he should give up trying to switch hit or if it'll just take more time for him to get there. In any event, he needs at bats. And, at the risk of sounding repetitive, it's worth remembering he's only 1 of 15 hitters in the EL that are 22 or younger (he's 7th in OPS of those 15). His progress is worth remembering when trying to guess how fast potential draft pick Buxton would fare. Buxton is a slightly better prospect coming out of high school but not that much better. Hicks was the 14th overall pick in a pretty loaded draft. Buxton might go #2 in a significantly weaker draft.
  19. Klaw's latest mock has the Twins taking Buxton. According to Klaw, he's talked to people around the league and the "Twins are really hoping Buxton falls to them at #2."
  20. I really doubt a 16yr old kid is worried about his ML debut time when the signing bonus is going to change his and his families life. IMHO, it's much more important how teams are viewed by the agents in the area that help these kids sign with ML teams. And the Twins have a good reputation with those agents. And the delaying service time isn't really a big Twins thing, anyway. The premier Twins prospects over the last decade - Mauer, Kubel, Morneau, Liriano - were all brought up at 22 or younger.
  21. I'd love it if these Twins suddenly turned into the 2006 Twins and went 70-35 or so. I don't expect it but I'm rooting for it!
  22. Um, http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIN/MIN198710180.shtml
  23. It was really based on a few things - 1) KLaw mentioning a while back that the Twins were the most active team in the international market. 2) Sano's agent saying something to the effect of how professional the Twins were to deal with and establishing a good relationship with him. So I figured if money is equal but the Twins front office has better relationships with the agents, that could create goodwill for them with these young players who don't know anything about the process. I doubt that these kids care all that much (or even know all that much) about who has made the majors when a simple baseball contract would mean so much to them and their families.
  24. If nothing else, I think the Twins need a Spanish speaking coach, which could be Cueller. Plus, maybe he gets something out of Liriano.
  25. Hey, he'd be our third baseman of the future!
