  1. I don't think we can trade Morneau this year. The payoff wouldn't be that great with questions about his health and the contract still lingering. He'd be more valuable next year, if we aren't in contention (but we will be, of course!). Willingham could be worth something this year, though.
  2. I don't think they say he can't, rather he isn't a sure fire ace as he has questions about his control - he walks a few more than you'd like - and his third pitch doesn't grade out all that well right now (compared to 'aces'). MLB.com's Mayo wrote about him "His breaking ball has the chance to be an average offering and he now throws a changeup that fades and sinks and could be an above-average pitch. The right-hander still struggles a bit with command, particularly with his breaking pitch and the delivery on his changeup doesn't always work. But with his size, mound presence and arm, he has all the makings of a frontline starter." Here's Mayo's video discussing Gausman and Zimmer (and Appel) - http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21495493
  3. Well, it's hard to go 0-7. :-)
  4. His supp picks were MN prep pitcher Mitchell Brown and Puerto Rico pitcher JO Berrios. I'd be pretty excited if the Twins got those two, regardless of who we take at #2.
  5. Unless the Twins are blown away, don't move him. We don't have anyone ready to step in and take over first. And it would be a PR disaster to move him for the something similar to the Young or Hardy deals. If you can an AJ Pierzski(sp) like deal for him, maybe. It's also good that the Twins are signaling it would be hard to move Morneau (but not impossible). If a team really wants him, they know it'll be expensive.
  6. Yeah, but his ST went poorly so he lost he chance here. Too bad but can't really blame the Twins on that. On the other hand, the Diamond for Bullock thing is looking better.
  7. Exactly. Other teams have had chances to grab Slama and haven't. Sickels at minorleagueball, and a big Twins fan, has also never been big on Slama. We fans sometimes lack a lot of information and tend to 'go nuts' over things we don't know about.
  8. If he plays the next two months without a hitch and hits like the Morneau of old, someone will take him (if we offer him). I don't know what he'd get. Mets got Zach Wheeler for a few months of Carlos Beltran last year. From the Twins perspective, it makes no sense to trade him unless we get something of real future value to him considering his role within the organization and status among fans. They can't get Jacobson/Hoey or Oliveres-like deal for him. The exception to that would be if Ryan wants to do a payroll dump.
  9. Hendriks is a legit prospect so I'm ok with them letting him get some more starts at AAA. He'll be back up here eventually. DeVries pitched well enough for us last night. I agree with the poster that said he could be a good bullpen arm. He had some nice break on his pitches.
  10. Here's the 2006 2nd round picks - http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/index.cgi?draft_round=2&year_ID=2006&draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round It doesn't seem that Benson was a bad pick, it just points out how hard it is for 2nd rounders to even make the bigs.
  11. Yep, that's how I look at it, too. But I'm going to be happy with any of them.
  12. I think they should just let Revere play right for now. RF is large in target field and Willingham's arm isn't great either AND he's really slow. At least Revere has the range. I think the Twins should let Revere get 400 AB up here and see what they have.
  13. I was wondering if they'd take Correa at #2, a legit pick, to save money. If the Twins don't sign him, he probably slips to #6 (M's on Zunino, Balt and Royals want pitching). So he and the Twins could come to an agreement to sign for, say 4.5m, saving the Twins nearly 2m to either spend elsewhere or to just save money.
  14. From the same chat, Callis was asked who the Twins were likely to take at #2. He said "they like Buxton a lot but may be compelled to take a pitcher. I can't see Giolito going No. 2 with a bum elbow." In another question, it was noted that the Blue Jays have two 1st round picks so might take Giolito with one and a easier signability guy with the other. He also rated HS 1B Joey Gallo the best pure power prospect in the draft. Mock drafts have him going in the late 1st round so he could be there at #32.
  15. I figure a best case scenerio would be Mauer-like. So he finishes this year in low A. Splits 2013 between A+ and AA. That's enough for the Twins to think he's ML ready in 2014, at 21. That's probably not what will happen. I'll say June 2015.
  16. In his chat today, Jim Callis at BA suggests the Twins would take Rochester, MN high school pitcher Mitch Brown with the #32 or #42 pick. Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com ranked Brown his #66 prospect and wrote: "It's not uncommon for players who play in colder climates to be late risers as scouts get to see them as the weather changes. That definitely has been the case for Brown this spring. While not the biggest guy in the world, he is strong and durably built. He also has a good idea of what he’s doing on the mound. The right-hander can run his fastball up to 94 mph. He can spin a breaking ball pretty well, throws a good cutter and even shows a feel for the changeup. That gives him the chance to have four Major League average or well above offerings in the future. While Brown can struggle with his overall command at times, it’s not a long-term concern. There was little doubt he was the best player in the state of Minnesota as the Draft approached, one who was creeping up higher on Draft boards."
  17. You're right and I'm not trying to say that he's the consensus #1. Just that he fits the type of player the Twins target and he has huge upside.
  18. I could see them moving Willingham if the offer was good enough, too.
  19. True. Right now, I think Mayo, Klaw, Callis, Goldstein and the SI guy have him ranked #1 but Sickels has questions about his hit tools.
  20. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/albert_chen/05/22/byron.buxton/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_t11_a0 I think the Twins would find it very hard to pass on this guy. He fits the Twins mold so perfectly.
  21. I don't really see why Trumbo would be a good piece for a rebuilding effort. He's only 2 years younger than Span, he has some pop but he makes a lot of outs. WAR, which has many, many problems, has them basically tied over the last two years, despite Span missing half of last year. He doesn't seem a good fit for us and Span isn't a good fit for them.
  22. Span would match up well with the Dodgers, too. They could put him in LF and let him leadoff. Frankly, a lot of teams could use Span.
  23. A few days old. Rymes gets HBP in the arm and passes out from the pain. But he doesn't rub it. http://tampabay.rays.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21495185
  24. So what is Rochester's rotation right now?
