  1. Well, it got worse. http://www.bucsdugout.com/2012/10/24/3546374/kovacevic-gregory-polanco-injured-ankle-during-navy-seals-training Pirates best OF prospect Gregory Polanco missed the last month of the season with a ankle injury but the Bucs sent him to navy seals training anyways. And, shocking, he re-injured that ankle. Then the Pirates lied about it.
  2. Agreed. I think Ozzie and Gardy could have been the funniest thing in baseball.
  3. I think Smerf has it about right. I'd add that I think the Twins trade Span and start with an OF of Willingham/Revere/Pamelee. If Parm can't hold down RF, one of Arcia/Hicks comes up (although I wonder if the Twins try Plouffe there again if he's hitting buy his 3B defense is horrible). I think Gibson spends April and May in the bullpen, like the Twins did with Santana and Liriano and gets moved into the rotation later. I think Hendriks has a solid enough season but will fade toward the end. But he could be a Baker-lite pitcher. I think the Twins trade Span to the Reds for a pitcher and shortstop Didi Gregous (sp) so Didi is our starting shortstop.
  4. Parker - they dropped him because he was repeating A ball and wasn't tearing it up. Then when he struggled in A+, they dropped him altogether. I liked your discussion about how his new swing was part of the process of shortening his long swing. Nice to remember that changes like that don't happen over night. Hicks was a fun prospect to follow this year and should be a big part of the Twins long term plans.
  5. I think that was a pretty fair write up. Great potential, far from reaching it. I was happy with the pick before we made it and I suspect he'll probably develop similarly to Hicks. Both had very similar scouting reports - great arm/defense, hit tool lagging. On the other hand, Hicks was a switch hitter which might make it longer to develop.
  6. "One pro scouting director from another organization said he was sure Sano would be able to stay long-term at third." Well, that was fun to read.
  7. It's his thing. He ignores facts, Thrylos makes them up. The Twins Daily version of Romney/Ryan!
  8. I think the talent level on that team has more to do with it than the managers. And most of their players are vets so probably aren't all that bothered by a manager change, anyways.
  9. He wasn't exactly facing the 27 Yanks in that little 10 game run. 3 NL teams, Oak twice, KC twice, White Sox, Balt and TX. Some good offensive teams in there but a lot of bad lineups, too. TX game was fluky - 6 walks and 5 hits but only 1 run. And it wasn't like he got better in Chicago. Those 10 games were about all that went right for him last year.
  10. So we agree that some order of Sano, Buxton, Hicks, Arcia, Rosario, Gibson are 1-6 and Kepler/Berrios would be 7-8. I guess you're right that Benson probably gets put at 9 but I think I'd rank him below Harrison and Goodrum at this point.
  11. I think the Twins will put him on a innings limit. I'd like to see them put him in the pen for a bit and then put him in the rotation, like they did with Santana and Liriano, so he gets used to the majors. I don't think he should spend a lot of time in AAA.
  12. I agree that he'll be on the Twins radar but at this point, he might be a better fit in the NL. I don't think the Twins will be willing to go as high as needed on him and someone else will give him that fourth year.
  13. At this point, I'd just rather move on.
  14. I think this is a good observation. There are many striking parallels between this election and 2004 up to the strong performance that Kerry had in the first debate. Good for Romney, but some of the polling following the debate was interesting. It was a knockout victory for Romney and people seemed to indicate they'll take another look at him, but there didn't seem to be any negative movement against Obama. In a sense he held his position while allowing Romney to move forward to claim some of the undecideds. I'm not sure it is enough, Obama has a huge chunk of states to play with, Romney really needs to move the needle to have a chance. I'm not convinced one debate can do that. Agreed. Today's job report was a big boon for Obama. Romney really needs a run on those swing states. Romney could win FL, OH and VI and still realistically lose. Unless all that super-PAC money sways a lot of voters, Romney is going to need some sort of October surprise.
  15. He won't be traded. Ryan will want one more shot at fixing the rotation and a middle line up or Mauer, Willingham and Morneau is a nice one. If the rotation breaks down, Morneau will be moved at the deadline where his salary won't be as big an issue.
  16. Just looked up a few but managers that have had back to back 90+ loses that weren't fired included Kelly, Torre, Mauch, Cox, Mack, Maddon, Pinella, Trembley, Hargrove, Torborg, Trammel, Houck, McNamara, etc
  17. I'm not going to vote for either guy but Romney won. I think one problem Obama had was he wasn't able to point out the false/myths/lies that Romney was able to constantly put out there. One reason, I think, might be that Obama is so insulated (just like Bush) that he wasn't ready for an actual confrontation with Romney over ideas. He just didn't seem well prepared.
  18. Wow, rough. Thoughts and prayers, too.
  19. I don't know enough about next years draft class to say who I want but certainly Appel at #4 would be one nice possibility. Right now, (while way too early), Appel is in discussion of 1-1 and next years draft is supposed to be worse than this years draft. A fast to the majors top of the rotation arm would be a nice thing to have. He probably won't be Verlander but there aren't many Verlanders.
  20. I always think these team building things are just big fiascoes. Remember way back when Mike Lynn sent Hershall Walker and several prominent Vikings to some stupid team building thing in the wild? They sent a newscrew with them and saw them go down zip lines and roll logs. And the team was more screwed up the following year. I think the criticism of the Pirates is valid. How would anyone here react if we learned that Miguel Sano hurt his knee in a hand to hand combat drill? The Pirates main problem is, while constantly drafting high, they haven't been able to develop much of that talent into ball players and now it looks like the FO seems to think the problem is that the players aren't tough enough or man enough.
  21. Offense isn't really the Twins problem. They need to trade for pitching, not a guy like Trumbo, who doesn't really fit in the Twins plans, anyways.
  22. I think he's more likely to sign a 1 yr make good deal with someone like Oak or SD but we'd also make sense, since TF is a pitcher's park. I've been mentioning him for months. He really is a Twins type guy. I could see Ryan signing him.
  23. Benson is actually a few months older than Revere and hasn't shown any ability to hit above AA ball. Roberts and Morales will not make the majors. Kepler and Walker are 4 years away. Revere will stay with the Twins at least through his arbitration years and, frankly, he should. He's a 3 WAR player right now as a RF and only 24. He'll continue to get better.
  24. I think the Reds still make sense. Esp after they bomb out in the playoffs. Stubbs is awful and their leadoff guys have an OBP of .257. Even if they think Hamiton is the CF of the future, Ludwick will be 34 next year.
