  1. Well, Pressley's got to be a better LF than Doumit or Herrmann, right?
  2. Good luck to Morneau. Hope he hits a game winning home run in the World Series for them.
  3. I agree that he won't be on any top 100 lists but the rest is far too hard on him. He'll comfortably be in our top 10 lists. He's only 23 this year. His krate has improved a bit and his walks have improved a bit more so now his k/bb rate is better this year. His FIP (if you value that at all in the minors) has improved a full run. He's given up fewer homers. And he's remained healthy while throwing a crap load of innings. I figure he's probably our 8th best prospect (Mayo has him 7th).
  4. Well, Ryan retired in 07 so most of his trades are ancient history. Seems rough to criticize him for not being able to trade a player at the height of their value and then ignore the time periods where Ryan was actually able to do just that. Instead of getting into an argument can we agree that both Span and Revere's trade value today is less than what it was when Ryan actually traded them? AJ's best years were with the Twins by most measurements. He was our primary catcher for 3 years and all 3 of those years are in his top 6 WAR seasons. His HR numbers certainly helped playing in Chi but his OPS+ for his years in MN were significantly better as well He certainly had a long career after we traded him.
  5. I think Ryan's done pretty well on that over the years. Span and Revere were both traded right before they collapsed. Knoblauch, Buchanon, Keilty, AJ etc were all traded at pretty good times.
  6. Could be. Meyer in the low 30s (could be higher with a strong AFL performance) Stewart in the 50s Rosario in the 50-60 range I don't think anyone else makes it. I wonder if Ryan has another off season trade to make around Perkins to bring in more milb talent.
  7. If nothing else, it's been a nice season for the minor leaguers. I wish Ryan had been able to move Perkins for another top prospect but oh well.
  8. Pitching, actually. The problem for them is that the last few years they've brought up a lot of highly regarded pitching prospects who haven't done that well.
  9. Noon tomorrow
  10. I was thinking it was surprising how little anti-Bruno stuff we've heard, compared to anti-Gardy and anti-Andy stuff (and those two have good track records). I don't really care one way or other. I think the Twins should add another Spanish speaking coach and if that's the hitting coach, fine. I don't particularly think Bruno's a good hitting coach but I don't think it matters that much. I think it's up to Gardy. If Gardy tells Ryan he doesn't like Bruno, Bruno will be gone. If Gardy's fired, I think a new manager would want to bring in his own coaches.
  11. Thanks for the updates cmb. I don't think we can lose enough to get Rodon but Hoffman sounds enticing.
  12. I don't think the Twins can trade Willingham for a low piece like Bridwell - that would mean the Butera trade was better. They can hang onto him and move him next year after he shows he can hit again. No reason to think his value will get much lower. Even if he isn't hitting much better, he'd be cheaper to a different team and RH power bats usually have value at the deadline. They have room to hold him and Arcia for another half year. On the positive side, Oriole fans at camden chat are throwing out the name Eduardo Rodriguez (as in, God, please don't let that happen) so it's nice to know they're panicking over that.
  13. I could see them pushing him to AAA but I don't think they'll burn an option year for one month and start his clock.
  14. I'm honestly not sure what to make of this post. It seems to be making end points to fit a theme rather than reflect reality. The Twins have brought up a lot of players in the last two years (even some from AAA although why should we care if they are coming from AA or AAA?), Dozier, Florimon, Hicks, Arcia, Gibson, Diamond, Colebllo, Albers, Fein etc. Dozier (3.2 WAR) and Florimon (2.5) are both good, under 28 and seem to have settled in to set up a nice MI for the first time in a decade. The Twins are clearly building a new core to go around the next wave of talent. The first part of the wave showed up this year in Hicks, Arcia and Gibson (Dozier and Florimon are nice pieces to go with it). Wait until the rest of the wave shows up. The 2000 Twins lost 93 games with 27 year old Radke and Koskie, 25 year old Jones, 24 yr old Milton, Mays, Ortiz, Hunter and under 22 guys like Guzman, Santana and Rivas. Give it time. Do you honestly think Ryan isn't rebuilding correctly? Do you think a future foundation of Buxton, Sano, Gibson, Meyer, Hicks, Arcia, Rosario, Mauer, etc is a bad plan?
  15. Well he's only been back for a little bit but under him we brought in Meyer, May, Stewart, Eades, Gonzales, Berrios. That's fairly solid pitching depth. And Buxton of course. And he traded Butera for Suliman. That's not bad. And Ryan has so much job security based on his track record I don't think you have to worry about him getting more b/c Sano happens to be good.
  16. I didn't read the article but they certainly have a nice foundation to build on. Someone else pointed out that the Twins have 6 guys in mlb.com's top 100 prospects right now (Buxton, Sano, Meyer, Stewart, Rosario, Berrios). The other 4 teams in the AL central have 11 total. That's a good sign going forward. And sure some of them won't pan out (in another post at the beginning of the year we looked at all the guys ranked in the BA top 100 and just under 20% of them were complete busts. But that would include taking the Joe Benson's into account). But players not ranked also will help out significantly. Guys like AJ, Baker, Koskie, Radke, Dozier etc were never ranked but became solid or better.
  17. Diamondbacks Designate Jason Kubel: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com From 30 hr last year to a .324 slg percent this year. Rough season for him.
  18. Could be. But the Twins haven't been afraid of promoting from AA to the majors. If the Twins are bad next year and Willingham is solid, I think they move him at the deadline freeing up a spot in the OF. Could go to Buxton.
  19. I'm most optimistic about Meyer being on the team. Must mean the team isn't worrying about his shoulder as much as I am. Good to know. Kepler's a real surprise. He hasn't been doing to well in low A so this will be quite the jump for him.
  20. I mostly agree with Steve. It could have been a better start but I have to think he was gassed at this point. I'd shut him down soon and have him ready for next season. He'll certainly be one of the 5 starters next year.
  21. No, Mayo did a recent re-ranking of all teams just before the trade. In any event, I like our system but it is top heavy and after 1-8 or so, it's not all that special anymore. I suspect a lot of teams #15 best prospect would be better than our #15. But nobody has a better 1-2 than us, which matters more.
  22. Mayo updated his Twins team prospect ranking and had Sulbaran #13, which was a lot higher than I would have guessed. 2013 Prospect Watch | MLB.com: News
  23. My guess is that Meyer, so long as his injury rehab is ok, makes the team out of ST next year. Correa starts opening day, followed by Meyer, Gibson. I don't know what happens with the last two spots - some combination of Diamond, Hendriks, Worley, Deduno and Albers but I think it's possible (likely) that the Twins make a few FA signings and/or a trade to add another starter. I don't think they'll make a huge splash in FA but maybe they sign Baker back or another Pelfrey type. I've read the rumors that they like Hughes and I think he'd pitch better here than in NY but I don't think they'll get him.
  24. You can certainly make the argument but I think Buxton is still number 1. After tonight, he's got his avg up to .300, his bb/k rate is really impressive and he has, if nothing else, gap power to go along with those tools. But it's a great debate to have.
  25. Not sure if it's posted elsewhere but Sickels at minorleagueball likes the trade for the Twins, too. Twins get genuine prospect for Drew Butera - Minor League Ball He's short but has a chance to make it as a back of the rotation guy or a bullpen arm. My guess in the Twins system he's probably ranked somewhere around #16-20 range or so.
