  1. Giants designated this lefty: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=surkam001eri He's 26 and coming off TJ but his minor league numbers are great - 10k/9, 4k/bb and even last year, his first year back, pitching in the PCL he managed a 1.065 whip and sub 3.00 era. I'm not saying we should sign him (although, why not) but I think it's interesting to point out another guy whose numbers never really translated into high praise from the scouting set.
  2. Not on the internet, buddy.
  3. Wasn't trying to "give him credit," I was just saying that a foundation is in place and he'd want to see it out before he retires. I suppose I could have written more to make that more clear but ... In any event, Antony seems to be setting up for a nice transition down the road. I personally think that stability is generally a positive for an organization.
  4. Nicely done. I always enjoy scouting stories.
  5. I don't think he'll retire until the Twins are winning again. He's done a pretty good job setting up a future (Buxton/Sano/Meyer foundation) in his time back but I think he'd want to see it blossom first.
  6. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/central-notes-twins-viciedo.html New title is vice president/assistant GM. Most likely Ryan's successor at this point.
  7. MLBtraderumors seem to think its a win for the Twins. But whatever. Solid trade, helps both teams. And it's fair to both teams, which is probably why the Twins and Braves have traded together before. Both sides more or less trust the other.
  8. John Sickels wrote this about Gilmartin two weeks ago: 14) Sean Gilmartin, LHP, Grade C+: Ugly season in Triple-A (5.74 ERA, 112 hits in 91 innings) was marred by shoulder problems. If healthy, profiles as a strike-throwing fourth starter who gets by on feel and moxie rather than pure stuff. Twins have been linked to him for a while now - since the draft - so they must have some pretty strong scouting reports on him. It's a sensible move. If he gives us one Diamond like season, it's a win. It'd be great if every pitcher was Alex Meyer but they can't all be. Gilmartin is reasonably close to ML ready.
  9. I agree with BPA but I admit I hope it's not a short stop. I really hope another pitcher falls to us. Unless Turner is a healthy Tulowiski, I don't like gambling on a MI that high up in the draft.
  10. I think Meyer is up when he shows he's ready. Last year we had 8 starters make 10 or more starts. The year before it was 9. Don't worry about him being blocked.
  11. Always liked Pino. Good for him. Sorta surprising he's never gotten a cup of coffee in the majors. He has over 100 starts in AA/AAA and over 200 appearances there.
  12. Pretty cool.
  13. I don't think so but I don't think it happens. In reality, only Nolasco, Hughes and Gibson really matter. Correia will be gone after this year and Pelfrey is just a backend guy. Deduno may not even be that. Twins should be better next year - maybe even pushing for .500 - but only Nolasco, Hughes and Gibson should be expected to be part of the next winning Twins team and that lets the Twins bring up guys like Meyer and May or sign someone else longterm next offseason.
  14. It's not a bad deal. That's not a lot of money for a backend starter and it doesn't prevent the Twins from making moves next offseason, if they want. It probably means Gibson starts the season in AAA, which I'm against, but it looks like Ryan is getting some innings, if nothing else.
  15. I doubt this hurts us but good luck to him.
  16. Not really surprising, they did the same for Jacque Jones a few years back. Hopefully he rakes again but he's probably done.
  17. I'd actually really like the Twins to take a shot at Montero. He showed he could hit in the minors, in the IL, which we are in so I would assume the team has pretty good reports on him. I think his RH power will play really nice at TF. Make him the DH and give him 600 PA.
  18. Trading Sano doesn't make a ton of sense - he's not quite ML ready like Myers was last year so a team like TB, in win-now mode, might not make a lot of sense for him. A rebuilding team would love to have him but would have to give up a lot to get him, so it might be robbing Peter to pay Paul. About the only way I think he could be traded was if he was in Taveras or Profar's position - ie a well regarded prospect on a win-now team that needed one more piece. That ain't the Twins.
  19. I really liked Hulet's comments about Stewart - could be a top 20 guy next year. I think I tend to be a little down on him simply because he isn't in that same Sano/Buxton/Meyer etc group that has been debuting between last season and 2015. But he and Thorpe and Berrios make a nice potential group coming in a year or so later than that. And maybe quicker depending on how fast the Twins promote.
  20. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-top-10-prospects-minnesota-twins/ Nice things to say about the Twins - "The organization is positioning itself to be a true powerhouse in the American League Central." Credits the Twins for finding impact players in the draft, trades and international signings.
  21. I think one thing we're ignoring is that Garza hasn't been great for a while - since 2010 his IP and WAR totals are roughly 2010 205 and 1.7 2011 198 and 2.8 2012 103 and 1.2 2013 155 and 1.4 He's not necessarily durable and he's older now. I think I'd prefer a smaller deal and look bigger next offseason.
  22. I think Willingham is the most likely to be good next year but I think Hicks and Worley are a lot better than what they showed last year. I went with Worley. But I could be completely wrong and Worley may be out of baseball in a year.
  23. Obviously Garza is the best of the group but I don't want to give him Sanchez money. Frankly, I think I'd rather not sign a big contract now and see if next year (Bailey, Lester, Scherzer, Masterson) is a better time to do that. A year from now, we should have a better idea of Meyer, Gibson and May as future parts of the rotation. I like Hughes more than most. And Worley has to get another chance yet. I think I'd prefer a short deal this year and hope for the bigger deal next year to fit in with the Buxton/Sano nucleus.
  24. Probably his post season homers off of Brown and Mussina.
