  1. Perhaps but neither does Trump. I want a democrat who is actually a democrat and opposes things like the patriot act, targeted killing and creating a surveillance state. I don't want a democrat who didn't support refugees or same-sex marriage until the political winds told her to. I don't want the democratic party to become republican-lite. I won't vote for HRC in the general election. She'll probably still win but ...
  2. Aside from stats, Gordon got rave reviews from professional prospect guys all year.
  3. I think Suzuki has a PA trigger in his contract so whatever that number is, he won't reach it.
  4. I knew Bernie was a long shot but I was really hopping he could pull off an upset in Nevada. Really looks hard to stop HRC now. Damn.
  5. Spring training should be fun. Hopefully several of the young arms step up this year.
  6. I asked my friend who is an international scout for the Royals if Park had seen ML quality sliders (not AAA) and he said no. He also said Park will need an adjustment period - not sure how long - but eventually he made a comparison to Magglio Ordonez by "the end of the year one."
  7. I thought he'd get a job but we'll see. He's older than I think - nearly 60 now - so he might not. I thought he'd take a position with the Padres but it doesn't sound like it.
  8. What was the mysterious illness?
  9. On the first article, I don't really have a problem with fangraphs not writing a lot about the Twins. Our FO is one of the most quiet in the game and they don't seek publicity so for a site that needs 'hits' it's probably a lot easier to go in another direction. Their prospect guy - McDaniel - was pretty complementary of the Twins org on the prospect/drafting side before he was hired away (Marlins?). On the second, well, that's interesting, I guess.
  10. Man, 200 home runs would be great. I'd certainly take the under but let's go for it!
  11. I think the problem is the valuation and weight you put on your math numbers.
  12. David Schoenfeld at ESPN is a pretty constant critique of the Twins and often focuses on May being the lucky month. I posted it elsewhere but I don't really think the clustering of wins means much except to a narrative. I think you can certainly say that the Twins won more games than they were supposed to based on the RS v RA but even that should be given a grain of salt. The first week of the season was so bad it actually colored the results for the entire year. -28 RS in the first week, +24 for the rest of the year. Obviously, most teams will look better if you take out their worst week but that was still a really sizeable difference. In any event, I think the Twins team changed considerably over the year so I think the talent level we have is better than what the RS/RA suggests. And that talent should improve. That's generally why I'm optimistic about this season.
  13. As Seth said, nice career. Best of luck to him.
  14. This stupid song really wedged itself into my head today. Like, all day. I no longer remember the third grade but my God, this will stay with me
  15. I assume the "if" means he's not sure it can be done. Glad he thinks highly of Meyer although I really wanted Meyer to turn into a top of the rotation ace.
  16. I'm not sure the Twins would be better off relying on Arcia or Vargas, for instance. They both had chances and neither has really done well. Arcia was a highly regarded prospect but he was just horrible last year, even at AAA. I think the Twins would be foolish to rely on him for this year. They can certainly hope he bounces back but making that your plan seems iffy. Vargas was never a high prospect, is kinda old and really not a lot of reasons to think he can hit at the ML level. The only other real DH option they would have had was keep Sano at DH and let someone else figure into RF. I suspect that's what many people expected if they knew Plouffe was going to stay. I don't have a problem with the Twins keeping Sano away from full-time DH at this point and if he's not going to be the DH, then the other options weren't really appealing.
  17. Um, were you not here for the Joe Benson or Zach Jones threads?
  18. Hm, not sure what happened there. They projected 70 wins, and were off by 13.
  19. Yes, you told us all season long (and quite frequently) how the other shoe was going to drop.
  20. I think the grade thing is stupid but the question should be - did the Twins do stuff (either by action or inaction) that will make the 2016 team better? I, and others, think yes. I think a lot of potential FA signings were problematic in that they would block someone we might like and, in most cases, not really being worth it. We see that every year. Arguing about a guy like Sipp isn't really worth the energy. I also think the Twins are up against their payroll but they never address that.
  21. And clearly there were things you were wrong about on the Hunter signing last year. I find it interesting that you are using pythag this year since you discredited last year at this time, since the 2014 team underachieved substantially. I think the team has improved over last years team. I think the false narrative about "one good month" and sequencing has been overplayed. I think the young talent we have will improve and I think we have enough depth to support and challenge those who don't. I think it's silly to overreact to not signing a relief pitcher or take anything from PECOTA. I think Ryan has done a pretty good job at his rebuild (again) and it's pretty clear the FO has a good idea what it has. It's possible the Twins take a step back this year, as Schonenfeld suggests, before breaking out in 2017. But I think they'll be fine. We'll see. But arguing they didn't do enough - as the author suggests - seems empty and simplistic. (Please note that I am not calling Jimmer simple and empty).
  22. IIRC, the Twins were really in love with Javier - I think BA remarked that the Twins had him higher than almost every other team. I'm not sure what strategy they'll have this year and I don't know enough about the international market to critique it one way or another (frankly, I don't know enough about the draft, or being a GM, or hitting a fastball, etc to critique but I will). Hopefully, we get some good talent.
  23. I'd have loved to added Clippard but we'll be ok without him. I sure didn't want Sipp at 3/18. This seems a lot like last year when the pessimistic fans were lamenting the Hunter signing while missing the obvious improvement of the team. I remember arguing with Mike and Jimmer to no end about the status of the rebuild and how it looked like a .500 team. Things don't seem to change. I see this team as in pretty good position and a FO that understands that it needs to see what it has. They'll be fine.
  24. WOW is right. There must be 30 posts addressing that.
