  1. That write up on Park is sooooooo much fun to read. I really hope he's right.
  2. Nice list. An interesting note on the Gonsalves write up suggests that a lot of teams tried to see if the Twins were willing to part with him. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016?list=min
  3. Well, yeah, there's certainly some talent on the under 25 side. Which is great.
  4. Nice write up, Seth. I really like this guy and hope he wins a cy young down the road for us. Really looking forward to his debut.
  5. I think he's going to be a high avg, solid on-base guy but with only moderate power. Maybe a poor man's Joe Mauer. Something like .300/.360/.430 with 12-15 HR a year and solid defense. He won't be a star but he'd be a pretty good player.
  6. How does MLB have the power to suspend him? I didn't think they had that in the CBA? I have to admit, I hate sports leagues suspending players for off the field stuff. That should be between the player and his team. It seems like the league is more concerned with PR and I don't want baseball to get a Goodell problem.
  7. Yep, same group. Return of kings.
  8. In my job I do some outreach on legal rights and such. It's occasionally controversial so we are always prepared for some crazies but only one time did that actually happen. At one of these things, some guy was demanding to know how I felt about the Men's Rights stuff, which I didn't even know was a thing. He was pretty intense. He had some pretty ugly views about women and recommended a certain website that could almost be considered a hate group, I think. His main "point" (as it was) was that women used sex to cow docile men to make society do what they want while "real men" (him) get ****ed over. So, yeah.
  9. By Gleeman standards, those were pretty optimistic write ups. The Kepler comment - #1 prospect on most teams - is nice. It's also nice that the top 4 prospects should all make a ML appearance this year.
  10. Yeah, I remember a lot of posts on the old ESPN message boards saying something like - "she looks really good naked, she should be proud, not offended." Which totally ignored that there was a creepy dude 20 feet away from her behind a door video taping her and then shared with millions of strangers. It had to be scary as hell.
  11. I think you're putting too much weight on minor league stat lines. What we should look for are the scouting reports, esp as an A ball player. This is mlbpipelines write up on him - "The first high school position player taken in the 2014 Draft, Gordon is the son of former big league pitcher Tom Gordon and Dee Gordon's younger brother. He more than held his own as one of the youngest regulars in the Midwest League in his first full season of pro ball, showing why the Twins took him No. 5 overall. Not known to have a ridiculously high ceiling, Gordon can do a lot of things well, with a higher floor than most high school draftees. He should hit for average, with a line-drive approach from the left side of the plate, and there should be a little extra-base pop as he adds strength. While he's just an average runner, he's an excellent baserunner who has showed some base-stealing ability. That speed gives him just average range, but he has terrific instincts, good hands and a very strong arm, leaving no question he can stay at shortstop long-term. The Twins never had much doubt Gordon would be a big leaguer one day. How he's begun his career has the organization more enthused about just how good of a player he'll be once he gets there." I'm certainly not trying to suggest he'll be an all-star - he might flame out in AA - but he looks like a guy who can make it.
  12. I'm the opposite of tobi. Going into the draft, everyone knew the Twins were going to nab Gordon and I was really happy with that pick. (It's also worth pointing out that the most commonly suggested pick was Alex Jackson who looks lost now). It looks like he can play shortstop at the ML level and be at least a league average bat. That's a really good player.
  13. http://deadspin.com/erin-andrews-espn-forced-me-to-go-on-tv-and-talk-about-1762058985 Pretty shady stuff, if you believe the report. Before she was allowed back on air, ESPN required her to do an interview to stop the claims that she was in on the peeping tom videos. I know this was a long time ago but I sure don't remember rumors that she did it for publicity but apparently they were out there.
  14. I'm really interested to see how everyone in the rotation looks. Can Hughes bounce back? Can Nolasco pitch well enough to get traded during ST or are we stuck with him? Is Duffey legit? I think both Gibson and Santana will be good solid ML pitchers this year but everyone else has some question marks. On the hitting side, besides Buxton, I'm really interested to see how Kepler performs. Last year during ST it was pretty obvious that Rosario was a "molly guy" and, even though he started in the minors, he was going tobe a fast call up. Does Kepler do that this year? Someone else?
  15. Seriously Dave? Everyone got it the first 15 times you claimed baseball players were false phony tough guys. The horse is dead. Put the stick down. Relax. Baseball games start soon.
  16. Yeah, I remember these discussions. I was a little wary of Fulmer b/c of the height thing that we always hear on Berrios. I didn't like Benintendi at all - too small and I didn't think he'd stick in center and didn't have enough bat to be a corner guy. As I said, I liked Cameron. So we'll see those two become all-stars while Cameron flops in AA.
  17. This might have been posted in the election thread but I'm not sure and it's good enough to warrant its own thread, anyway. John Oliver discusses Donald Trump for 22 minutes. It's fantastic.
  18. That's a good point, too. RF isn't that big and Buxton in center should limit it even a bit more. He's a good athlete. Hopefully, this goes well.
  19. Again, clearly, this is something very emotional to you while others don't care as much. I'm not sure this thread needed to be hijacked into accusations against head hunting, phony toughness and what-not. We'll see how the rule is enforced and complain/applaud at that time. The other commentary was not really needed.
  20. It's also probably fair to say that baseball hasn't had a lot of 260+ pound outfielders because baseball hasn't had a lot of 260+ pound players. The game and its athletes are changing dramatically. If you watch any ESPN classic baseball game from the 80s you'll see that the players today generally dwarf those guys. The time of the 6'2", 175 lb Jack Clark's playing corner OF and 1B is gone. So, while Sano might be rare now, he might not be all that rare in 5 years. We'll see.
  21. I remember at the time of the draft, I wanted the Twins to take Daz Cameron but I kept reading how Jay was going to be the Chris Sale of this draft and being linked to the White Sox and thought, man, why don't we ever nab that guy? So, it was a pleasant surprise. I think Johnson's draft strategies on pitching is interesting and it'll be fun to see if it pans out. I liked this pick though and being #5 seems about right.
  22. Clearly, it's not. Some people prefer baseball a certain way, others don't. Levi gets a little worked up over this. Others are less concerned. It doesn't really matter. What this thread was aimed to discuss - getting rid of the Utley slide - isn't likely to significantly change the way the game is played but, again, we'll have to see how it's enforced.
  23. Yeah, he started 2002 pretty shaky and then missed nearly 3 months with an arm issue. He came back and was iffy to end the year - 4.50 era in 83ip, very few strike outs but a ton of ground balls. His 03 was gawd-awful and I believe he got rotator cuff surgery at the end of the year, missing all of 04. At the time, people were blaming TK for making him throw so many innings in 2001. Silva actually had a few good enough seasons that he got a big FA contract. His 06 season was horrible but otherwise he was pretty solid.
  24. Everyone relax. Let's see how the rule plays out before deciding what's going to happen.
  25. Well, again, I don't think the new rule will change that nor would I want it to. We'll see how the enforcement goes.
