  1. I wonder how many scouts are there tonight.
  2. I'm currently reading book two of the Alien/Predator Rage War. Yep.
  3. And I bet people that voted for him saw him 'telling it like it is' or some such BS. **** this guy.
  4. Just to freak everyone out, here are some of the top 5 pitchers taken in the last few drafts and their current top 100 rankings - Kyle Zimmer (no ranking, has avg 40 innings/season the last five years), Mark Appel (nope), Brady Aiken, Tyler Kolak (nope, nope), Dillon Tate (nope). All of those guys we here wanted to fall to us or we wish we would take.
  5. Probably depends on what else is happening. If Hughes has a 4.50 era and is avg 5.1 innings per start and Berrios is putting up a sub 2 ERA in AAA, a change will be made. My guess is that Berrios might start the season in AAA simply because he has options but will end up as one of the top five pitchers in terms of games started for the Twins.
  6. I think Gibson, Santana and Santiago (barring injuries) are locks. I think Hughes has to prove it. If he's throwing 87 in ST, he's in the pen. I think the FO is going to put May into the rotation over Molitor's objections unless he has a really bad ST. The last spot goes to Haley/Berrios/Hughes. Haley is interesting. I don't think the Twins are going to lose him but he could also be put into the pen, if need be. Mejia starts in AAA.
  7. I'm not against the Twins taking Kendell if they think he's the BPA but I really hope it's a pitcher. And my sense is that BPA is usually a tier system so Kendell would really have to separate himself from Greene and Faedo et al (or the pitchers all have crap years). If he does have that separation, take him and nab pitchers at the end of the first round. But I'd still bet pretty heavily that we take a college pitcher at #1.
  8. Here's the thing. I think you shouldn't make your best relief pitcher the closer and, for a number of years, the Twins arguably didn't. Everyday Eddie wasn't our best relief pitcher and you can make a case that Nathan wasn't always our best relief pitcher either - Rincon had some pretty dominant years as did Crain although Nathan always had some flashy stats (at least in the regular season). So having Kintzler get the last three outs in games we have a lead doesn't strike me as a horrible idea although Pressly is about the only bullpen arm I really like right now.
  9. Nice article. Hope Stelly beats cancer, that really sucks. It would be nice if Lavine and Falvey can win a few World Series as well.
  10. Why did Mejia only get 2 innings in the majors last year? That really bugged me. Unless he was hurt, the Twins really screwed up by not giving him a few spot starts down the line. I like Mejia. He is what he is but that's not a bad thing. Relatively high floor with that lower ceiling. I like having him in the pitching depth line over guys like Walters and Albers. Most of the national write ups on him have been relatively kind as well.
  11. I can see it as a focus thing but I sorta wish they were working more on throwing fastballs in instead of away.
  12. I missed these when they came out but I don't see them on here, either. BP ain't what it used to be but ... Their top 101 only had two Twins - 48 Gordon and 98 Jay. Their top 10 Twins list is here. In the top 101 chat, they mention that Kiriloff and Romero are in the "just missed" group. There are some nice things in here though. BP is pretty high on Romero (#3) and Wander Javier (#6), they noted that Jay's fastball and slider sometimes are a 70 on the scouting scale, they like Kiriloff but he's a long way off, and they even have Zach Granite at #10. They also write "Much like the awkward in-between state that 20th century American poet Britney Jean Spears spoke of in “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” from her classic Britney collection, the Twins’ best long-term building blocks are not prospects, but not yet established stars. Minnesota’s farm system is mediocre at best. However, more than any other team, the Twins show the flaws in evaluating an organization’s young talent strictly by prospect-eligible players. Despite losing prospect eligibility Buxton, Berrios, and Polanco are still just 23, making them the same age or younger than one quarter of BP’s top 101 prospects. Even Sano and Kepler, at 24, are no older than a dozen top 101 prospects. Minnesota has tumbled down prospect rankings, but the overall collection of young talent remains among the best in baseball and that’s evident by the first five names on the 25-and-under list already graduating out of prospect-dom."
  13. Best pitching prospect in the game is out for the year for TJ surgery.
  14. This article also reminded me how excited I was for Burdi. sigh
  15. I guess Stewart is the one prospect I don't think there's really any reason to argue over. He's either going to improve his k-rate or bomb out in AA. There's no way he's getting through AA this year with a 4k/9. Sickel's write up mentions some of the concerns Thrylos mentions - erratic command. Hopefully, he puts it all together this year.
  16. I liked the Blankenhorn pick (and Cabbage). I agree that he's still too young and far away to get too excited about but it was nice to see him play well last year. But I don't necessarily think he's a bad pick for #9 in the org. Seems about right, actually.
  17. Feed em or free em. Both are good.
  18. I'm a non-profit attorney and we own tons of oil, gas and big banks. I figure my work offsets the damage to my soul. But we did balk at buying haliburtan.
  19. He's a pretty interesting prospect. A bit of a lottery ticket but a few lottery tickets have to hit, right?
  20. 1) Sano makes the all-star game. 2) Gibson gets his first 200 ip season 3) May makes more than 15 starts
  21. Ignoring ethics, I like oil right now. We paid off my law school loans because of an oil stock. We bought into some natural gas stocks a few years ago and made a second buy of the same stock as prices plummeted. Now we are starting to see them jump a lot. Keeping in mind that I'm just a dumb guy on the internet, I keep expecting oil to have another major dip before a real big spike. I very rarely try to time the market but I'm watching a stock named HP (Helmerich & Payne) pretty closely. We bought in 06 and sold it in 2014. If it falls into the 50s, I'll probably buy. It's an oil rig company with a great dividend and good leadership.
  22. They aren't recession proof but they bounced back pretty fast from the housing fiasco. The nice thing about Disney is that if the dollar gets weak, Disney World brings in a ton of international dollars as foreigners leap at the discount and things like their cartoons are always pretty popular. Parents buy those DVDs at Christmas time, recession or no recession. I'm still a little mad that I didn't buy into Disney a decade earlier when we really should have.
  23. Not too surprising considering some of the posts we've seen from them. We knew they'd be the low man on the Twins.
  24. I think lots of ip and not giving up runs - whether you measure that by ERA, ERA+, fip whatever, are probably the important things a starting pitcher can do. Doc Holliday, Maddux etc were certainly aces with lower strike out numbers. I've always found this interesting but being top 10 in both ERA+ and IP in the same season is actually pretty hard to do. The pitchers that did it the most are pretty much all-timers.
