  1. I've been as high as anyone on the Reed/Burdi/Chargois/Melo/Jay/Meyer/May et al bullpen but it's been several years and it's still not there. I'm not sure what to do. I wouldn't expect anything from Burdi next year since 1) he's recovering from TJ and 2) we tried to trade him for a rental. Jay's injury scares me. Curtiss should be up this year. Chargois has disappointed. I do agree that the Twins have enough arms to throw at a wall to see what sticks and may end up doing just that since FA is expensive and ownership is cheap. But I think we're probably in 'let them show us' territory now instead of 'wait and see'. If that makes sense.
  2. I would trade Rosario, Dozier, Santana, Kinsler, Grossman, Romero and Gonsalves for the right return. Sano, Kepler, Buxton, Berrios, Gordon I would not move unless another team absolutely overpaid. Polanco, Mauer, Escobar, Castro/Giminez, Vargas, Gibson et al have very limited value so it's not worth discussing but if the FO manages to move any, that's fine.
  3. Yeah and some *******s in the White House admitted/suggested that it was done to make it hard for Democrats in rust belt states to get re-elected because they'd have to support transgendered peoples rights.
  4. I'm not sure we should be looking at a 200+m payroll as a blue print for the Twins.
  5. Ryan traded pretty much every vet - Revere, Span, Liriano, Slowey, Doumit, Buetera, Morneau, Fuld, Correa, Hammer etc. Our system had been highly ranked for many years. What you're trying to complain about is that you didn't like the return on those trades. This thread always devolves into "Twins should have gotten more for Hammer" and "Twins should have traded Perkins." Dozier and Santana aren't blocking anyone right now so they don't have to trade either. Everyone complains that Kinzler is a bad closer because he can't strike anyone out, he's about to be a FA and we expect a big haul for him?
  6. Miranda and Baddoo are the two most glaring problems on this list. I think both are top 15 prospects for us.
  7. I think we're a little low on Santana here. Stewart is a 25 year old near journeyman at this point who has dealt with injuries and might be a bullpen arm at this level. I'd certainly want a better deal than him.
  8. They should probably listen on anyone. I think if Santana can get something like NYY prospect Sheffield (#93 on mlbpipeline's new list) or Adams (#62) + another non-top 100 guy ... maybe you do that. (Both Sheffield and Adams are already in AA or above it). But I have no idea what his trade value really is. He's already worth over 3 WAR on b-r but as others note, fip doesn't like him as much. He's very cheap for a starting pitcher and he has an option year to boot. He's old. He's well regarded in the game. He's an all-star and a smart pitcher who seems to enjoy mentoring Berrios. I dunno. Is that player worth a top 100 prospect + a bit more? Is that player worth more? Less? No idea. Ideally, there'd be a bidding war.
  9. The Wights are the dead human zombies, The Others are the White Walkers with blue faces who bring the cold.
  10. I think they'll kill the Wights but not The Others.
  11. Nah, the Wolves will have a huge part in the battle against the army of the dead. It's one of the few things GRRM has confirmed.
  12. The draft has a few tiers of rankings in this list as well. 21. Hunter Greene, RHP, Reds (No. 2 overall pick) 23. Brendan McKay, 1B, Rays (No. 4 overall pick) 29. MacKenzie Gore, LHP, Padres (No. 3) 31. Royce Lewis, OF, Twins (No. 1) 35. Kyle Wright, RHP, Braves (No. 5) I think these five were the general consensus top 5 (in some order) and those 5 are separated by 14 spots. 75. Pavin Smith, 1B, D-backs (No. 7) 78. Alex Faedo, RHP, Tigers (No. 18) 86. Jeren Kendall, OF, Dodgers (No. 23) 87. J.B. Bukauskus, RHP, Astros (No. 15) 88. Shane Baz, RHP, Pirates (No. 12) 97. Keston Hiura, 2B/OF, Brewers (No. 9) And then a little bit of weirdness in the back quarter. I don't think Kendall should be a top 100 guy right now at all. No Adell?
  13. Compared to other AL Central teams Chi - 8 (1-69 range) Cle - 2 (16-24 range) Det - 3 (72-99 range) KC - 0 MIN - 4 (31-84 range) Chicago's uber prospect Giolito dropped a lot but our old friend Jose De Leon dropped the most. Pipeline also just added the value of the top 100 guys to give a guesstimate on top systems right now (it doesn't look at depth, it's just a glance) and the Twins rank 12th. White Sox 2, Cleveland 14, Tigers 23 and KC 28.
  14. Nice ranking. Garver comes into the year at #15, hits pretty well at AAA for a catcher posting an OPS over .900, and drops to #21. Seems like a solid system.
  15. I don't think so but he does have upside. Sickels like him a lot.
  16. Ynoa was our #22 prospect per mlbpipeline and has an era over 5 in Elizabeth. He's 19. We signed him for 800k a few years ago. Seems like a fair trade to me.
  17. Well, Recker is a journeyman catcher so maybe we have a trade for Giminez or Garver lined up as well?
  18. For Gausman. Sure, he's having a tough year but he's still under team control until 2021. He is relatively affordable and Baltimore isn't going to give up on him anymore than we were going to give up on Berrios.* They'll want a strong return or they just keep him. * the two situations are not identical. I know that.
  19. Martinez might get 4/80 but a good starting pitcher - even a Nolasco type - is going to get more than 10m/season. And setup guys like Tony Sipp are getting at least 6m/season. The high price of relief pitchers is one of the biggest problems we've had with our draft relievers strategy - Reed, Burdi, Melo, Bard, Curtiss, Clay, Chargois etc - none but Duffey has made it yet. I thought we had the makings of a killer bullpen in the minors but we've been hanging onto that thought for years with nothing to show for it.
  20. I would guess that Baltimore would ask for (if they thought Gordon was off-limits) both Gonsalves and Romero as a starting point. That might be light.
  21. I've heard that story probably a dozen times. No idea if it's true but I want it to be true.
  22. I sorta agree regarding Santana. I think he'll still be an innings eater and positive role model for young pitchers so I'm ok keeping him. But I would expect something closer to 2.0 WAR, 100 ERA+ next year. They should listen on him but if they don't get a good offer, keep him. They should also be listening on Rosario and Grossman.
  23. Thanks all. My views are probably similar. His defense is better than what bWAR has for now. I like him but if I can flip him for a starting pitcher and plug Granite into LF and fill it later in FA, I'd do it. But if I have to keep him, I'm good too.
