  1. I'd actually prefer they find a couple one or two year FAs that the new regime think can be bargains. Those bargains either help return the team to contention or are trade chips in July. There isn't much worth longer deals available this winter, but that doesn't mean sit out free agency. It should be one avenue continually used to improve your tem, no matter how bad, or good, it is.
  2. I see what you're endorsing as "just stay with the bad we know." I don't endorse that. For one thing, it literally can't be made worse. What's worse than worst in MLB?
  3. "Let some growth happen in 2017 and perhaps 2018. Then see (where) you need to add pieces." My problems with this: 1. I've been hearing this exact same thing for at least three years now. It's time to win. This organization can't afford any more losing, they're already close to an afterthought in the TC market. 2. Neither you or I can predict with much certainty what will happen next week in baseball. Let alone 2019. Waiting around until the magical perfect time to occur is folly. 3. Even if you could predict what the Twins will look like in 2919, you can't predict the needed magic pieces will be available. 4. If, indeed, the current crop of players simply needs more time, nothing will have been lost by adding better surrounding players now. Nothing prevents the Twins from trying now, AND adding players in 2019. "Play the kids" is one of those things that has the smell of truth on the surface, but lacks any actual merit on closer examination. Play kids that can help you win, and find replacements for those that are just kids.
  4. Your examples, Blyleven and Morris, were both acquired prior to "having a competitive team." Morris was signed to a team that finished in last place. You can't wait until you have a competitive team to "fill the holes" you need to fill to become a competitive team. Acquire the players needed to compete. That's how you become competitive. Hopefully, there are just about enough position players in place to get there, so fix the pitching. Now. If you are saying the Twins don't currently have the position players to compete, you are in effect saying Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, et al are busts.
  5. It wasn't PI. But let's grant that it was. It only mattered because the Gophers spent 59 minutes not playing offense, behind a stupid game plan executed by a poor QB, wasting a pretty good defensive effort. Lather, rinse, repeat. That's the takeaway. Not a call that can be quibbled over.
  6. It's a shame this team has been tied to Leidner for so long. What a series of wasted opportunities. Above average?? What?
  7. HUH? It's your contention that players playing better with other coaching has nothing to do with the possibility that there's an issue with Twins coaching?
  8. “Yes I did… and I’ve also run out of bullets”. You can say that again.
  9. http://67.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1itsg87X61rn95k2o1_500.jpg If you say so.
  10. I hope, REALLY hope, this isn't an alt account for an existing member. That would be a clear violation of TD policy, bro. A CLEAR violation. If it were, I might have an excuse to be forced to take moderator action, which would leave that "FireFalvey" handle open for usurpation by a moderator use by a new poster.
  11. Congrats to Jeremy for scooping this a full day ahead of anyone else!
  12. Pretty sure he was referring to the "Chief and Brian" part.
  13. Seriously...they have absolutely zero regard for us as fans, running this collection out there night after night. I feel bad or Dozier. If I was him I'd be asking out. This is not a major league team. This is not a major league manager. It's just sad.
  14. Debate? It's settled case law. Mary Ann.
  15. This is all true, except the bolded. It's gotten to the point where it's ridiculously hard to be charged with an error. Anything on the edge of anyone's range is going to be ruled a hit, not an error. I seriously doubt anyone is racking up errors because they're diving for balls that are passed other fielders, and not coming up with the play cleanly. There are occasionally errors charged to outfielders that really aren't their fault...they make a good throw, the ball kicks off the runner, and runner(s) advance. Error charged, but no real misplay was made. Outside of that, charged errors, particularly to infielders, can be reasonably assumed to be legit. An out should have been recorded, and wasn't, or an extra base(s) gained that shouldn't have been. And so errors are one of the things that need to be considered. I also find it ironic that people often scoff at errors because "it's just a judgement call, made by a human," but then turn around and swear by advanced defensive metrics, which rely on humans making judgement calls based on taped replays.
  16. I hope you're right. But, again, I'll be mildly surprised if you are.
  17. Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion man.
  18. http://i2.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/019/304/old.jpg Part of me wants Mcleod only because Ashbury will eventually post a "Old man yells at Mcleod" meme in response to something I say.
  19. I posted a month ago or so, semi-joking, that Rob Antony was the front runner. I will be mildly surprised if he's not in one of these two positions, likely the GM chair.
  20. We don't have relief pitchers that can go through one inning, Mike. And you think they can find a whole slough of em who can go through three innings?
  21. The way to improve next year's rotation is to keep this year's rotation?
  22. your new appreciation for whiskey will help with that
  23. Horrible footwork by Murphy. What's he doing up the first base line?
