  1. Sano is going to end up at 1st base, it's a matter of time. Make the move now, and figure out what to do about 3rd.
  2. rowtheboatski-u-mahgogophers.
  3. people feel Castro was the better hitter because Castro had both a higher OBP and a higher SLG. If there's a bias, IMO it's a bias towards Astudillo, not against him.
  4. How's about they use Lewis as the centerpiece of a deal for pitching, and let someone else figure out what to do with a SS who hasn't hit and won't play SS.
  5. I believe also points to the Yu Darvish signing as an example of a FA bust, even though Darvish was really good this year, and if he was a Twin would have been the logical choice to start game 1, or at least game 2, in the ALDS.
  6. How many of those six pitchers were drafted and developed by their current team? One. And that guy was a #1, and might as well be a FA signing because of the contract he's on. Trades played a major role in getting those pitchers to their current (WS) teams. And here's the thing...I doubt ANYone, from fans to the GMs in question, regret those trades. The Twins can, and should, play in every avenue of talent acquisition, including trading top prospects when it makes sense. Not doing so is intentionally bringing a knife to a gun fight.
  7. 1) it's a bit of a nitpic, but the Yankees didn't get to the WS in 2018. Overall, I think the point is, having dominant starting pitching is a big advantage. Houston, Washington, and others have recognized that, and found a way to acquire it. Ideally, you'd have 5 dominant starters all pre arb and making peanuts, all drafted and developed. Since that's a tall order, other successful teams have done what's necessary to acquire it, be that trades, or free agent signings, including FAs at the very top of the food chain. It's pretty unreasonable to think you can have the top players, but never have to pay for them in prospect cost or salary. That seems to me the overall point. And there is no reason the Twins CAN'T do all of that.
  8. rowtheboatskiumahgogophers.
  9. you're on for a beer, make it a Corona. Keep it cold for me. And dont forget to buy a lime, but wait a couple years, I want a fresh one.
  10. concur. Few viewed Verlander as anything but an ace. One of the aces of the aces, in fact.
  11. "...Greg Wilfahrt, the man who portrayed TC the last two decades." pfft. Not the most famous Wilfahrt in Minnesota history. http://www.ipapolkas.com/blog/otw-portfolio/whoopee-john-wilfahrt-deceased-category-inducted-1976/
  12. I'd chalk that up to Houston's superior prospect evaluation. The teams they traded with thought they were getting enough for Verlander and Cole. Alternatively, I'd chalk it up to my own bias: Virtually ALL prospects are wildly overvalued. In the Twins case, I'd hope they deal Lewis for MLB help immediately, before his value craters.
  13. *struck out 2 hitters (Torres, Encarnacion), after walking (former Twin) Aaron Hicks to load the bases.
  14. Agreed...That certainly is an excuse. But even if we grant that, reporting at the time indicates the Greinke deal was "not happening" for Houston either. But their GM wouldnt take no for an answer, and ended up getting it done. In any case, Greinke is just one example. And contrast that with the Twins apparent surprise to see Stroman traded this past July. Pretty passive, IYAM. And I didn't even like Stroman, but the Twins did. They just sat on their hands. All specific examples aside, I hope they're more proactive, and more determined in the future.
  15. For me, the single biggest thing I wish the Twins emulate in the future is Houston's willingness/ability to get a deal done, despite any apparent obstacles. When others wouldn't/couldn't find a way to acquire Verlander, they did. Ditto Cole. Ditto Pressly. Ditto Greinke. Two of those deals literally went down to the final few hours of a trade deadline. Their GM refused to quit trying, and ended up pulling off deals that others had dismissed. There's a lot to like about how Houston does business. Add "determination" to the list, near the top for me.
  16. Pineda isnt getting $14m next year. He'd jump for joy over a QO.
  17. don't mean to speak for others, but it seems obvious: Yes.
  18. Indeed. And times it felt like he wasn't even here.
  19. Mauer retired? Hadn't noticed.
  20. I think it's only a matter of time before Sano moves off third, now seems as good a time as any. Try first base for a year. Dunno what to do about 3rd.
  21. I'm going to need more evidence to believe there's anything to the idea that different baseballs were used in the playoffs. Fun conspiracy theory, but the logistics of something like this make in unlikely in the extreme.
  22. I don't think there's any chance Graterol can last a full MLB season as a starter in 2020. He has 223 innings under his belt, total, across 4 seasons. 70 innings this year, total. He likely won't be asked to make 30 plus MLB starts.
