  1. To be fair, Ash only knew that because he took a couple of his grandkids to that game.
  2. The sad part is there was nothing really extraordinary or unusual about tonight's loss. Rather routine.
  3. I'll wager a 6 pack of Grain Belt Premium right now: if Buxton reaches free agency, he gets more than $150m guaranteed.
  4. Couldn't agree more, Nick. Buxton is a game changer. He should have been signed long ago, but that mistake will only be compounded if they don't get him under contract now, when circumstances offer a unique opportunity. How often does a player like this come along? BTW, we're paying JA Happ $8, Pineda $10. Donaldson $23. The idea that Buxton will accept, or should accept, $15m guaranteed is lunacy. Much less the laughable offer on the table.
  5. Boy, things are truly depressing, and it's difficult to see a way out anytime soon. Sort of a ... total system failure.
  6. Your contention is that Sano didn't know the throw was coming from Polanco? And couldn't have been expected to?? Uh...do not concur.
  7. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the little people that helped me achieve this career altering, uh...achievement.
  8. Maybe, maybe not, but now you're definately complaining about him complaining about your possible complaint.
  9. It was widely reported at the time that Wheeler's wife wanted to remain on or near the East Coast. Here's one article. https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/zack-wheeler-angels-gm-billy-eppler
  10. Seth: In his time with the Twins, Cruz played in 258 games. He hit .304/.386/.598 (.984) with 435 doubles, 76 home runs and 191 RBI Holy cow that's a lot of doubles. :)
  11. Seth: In his time with the Twins, Cruz played in 258 games. He hit .304/.386/.598 (.984) with 435 doubles, 76 home runs and 191 RBI Holy cow that's a lot of doubles!!
  12. I'll take issue with this. Garver is a bad defensive catcher. Stone hands, below average arm. 1/2 a season of PB data is a pretty poor measure.
  13. "Fans" is way too general to have any meaning. There are "fans" on both sides of the "pulling the starter" issue to be sure. To assign one position to "the fans" is unfair and wildly inaccurate. You're just inventing a position to "fans" and then arguing against it. I'll state MY general belief about starting pitching: "starter loses game early, it's on him. Loses game late, it's on the manager." I strongly believe it's much, much more favorable to remove a starter too early than too late. But that's a general philosophy. Everything needs to be placed in context, and a manager needs to have a "feel" for the situation. Last night, for example, that's not on Baldelli. People can have more complicated views on pitching than you're giving them credit for.
  14. This has been debated before, but between Buxton and Berrios I don't think there's any question the priority should be signing Buxton. He's a game changer, Berrios just isn't. Plus Buxton's injury history makes signing him much more realistic. Berrios ain't signing. Make the best trade you can and be done with it. Get Buxton under contract.
  15. Why not? That's his job. Managers make those kinds of decisions every day. He literally needs to be really good at it. In this particular instance, I don't think Baldelli did anything wrong. It's Berrios, his pitch count is fine, it's only 7 innings, and he'd burned through the best of his weak bullpen in game 1. Berrios simply melted down. But while one game's worth of decisions surely isn't enough to hang Baldelli, it's also not enough to excuse him, either. He gets paid to make the correct decision more often than not. I think it's completely fair for fans to question if he's doing that.
  16. You've rather undersold the Berrios implosion. "Goodwin and Vaughn reached base?" Really?? Goodwin drilled a single on an absolutely awful 0-2 pitch. Berrios then manages a HBP, followed by an immediate WP to advance the runners...and then falls behind, leading to what we all knew was coming. Count me among those who thinks giving Berrios big money is folly. He's just not worth it.
  17. Too lazy to look it up, but hasn't Sano been used almost exclusively against LH starting pitching for the past month or so? I take those numbers with a huge grain of salt. Sano's OPS is entirely built on slugging, as well.
  18. A couple observations: 1. I doubt this was a one off disagreement between Donaldson and Arraez. I suspect there's some history between the two. I can't imagine it would have gotten heated if not for some previous ... ill will. 2. Arraez nonchalant baserunning is just another example of the poor quality baseball we're seeing under Baldelli. Not poor talent...poor baseball. I gotta believe that rubs Donaldson the wrong way. I know it does me, and I'm just watching from 2000 miles away.
  19. The roster situation doesn't reflect well on Falvine, does it? What to do with Sano? Difficult to trade Happ--even if you could find a buyer--because there's literally so few options to pitch innings--even bad innings. Little of value to trade outside of a 40 year old DH, and the three players who you CAN'T trade if you hope to compete in 22. It's a mess.
  20. So ... Houston was able to instantly fix Pressly, but wouldn't be able to fix Alcala?
  21. In general I prefer major leaguers to prospects, but If the front office can get someone with Ynoa's arm for Pineda I'd be pretty impressed. It's also not really accurate to describe Ynoa as just another "rookie ball pitcher with a 5 ERA." The Twins had given Ynoa $800,000 to sign just a couple years earlier. He was a huge FA get out of the DR.
  22. So the Twins get a pass because prospects take time, but don't take the blame when Ynoa goes the other way and is producing NOW in the big leagues? Get credit for how Alcala SHOULD be doing?
