  1. I got asked to join a blindfolded archery league. I was skeptical at first, but I gotta say, I tried it, and I didn't know what I was missing!
  2. Concur. Need more poll options. 85 wins, but that's enough to win the AL Central.
  3. By the time of the trade, I don't recall most people believing Graterol would still end up a starter. He'd always been a likely bullpen candidate, and been moved to the pen the year before. Starter dreams--always a long shot--were long gone.
  4. I keep reading about this mythical "fireman" role. "Just send reliever X into the game when a high leverage situation pops up." Tell me how that works in real life...does Baldelli tell Duran to be warmed and ready from the 6th inning on, every night, just in case? "Firemen" don't exist. They never have never will. And BTW, if I were a betting man--and I am--I'd bet heavily Duran goes immediately back to closer when/if healthy.
  5. In other news, Generallissimo Francisco Franco is still dead
  6. I guess you can call me a "non-local idiot who expects every Randball piece to be clever and humorous."
  7. Pffft. If Ft Myers/Lee County weren't so cheap they'd have a domed stadium for the ~15 home Twins ST games every year!!1!!1!
  8. Not to speak for Mr Bean, but I took his point to be 46 PAs is a very small sample size from which to draw any conclusions. As someone once said, "Anybody can hit anything in 40 ABs." All that said, I have believed strongly in the platoon advantage for many decades now, and I doubt Wallner will ever hit LH pitching well. At least not as well as against RH pitching.
  9. Polanco is likely SEATTLE'S 3 hole hitter. And if they targeted an A ball outfielder as a way to add the starter EVERYone agreed they were targeting....well, let's just say that didn't happen. They were trying to add a starter. That's what they attempted. They just didn't do very well.
  10. Your contention is Falvine traded a guy slated to hit third for a post season contender, for a 30+ year old reliever with 1 year of decent history? Yeah, no. They traded Polanco for the starting pitching everyone, EVERYone, said all fall and winter they needed. And still do need, BTW.
  11. I obviously can't prove it, but I'm gonna go out on a pretty strong limb here and claim Oliva lived at or near the top of the league in exit velo. His signature hit was a screaming line drive to right that would get to the wall almost before the RFer could take his first step.
  12. It was only 254 PAs, but yes, Wallner was one of the Twins best hitters last year. .249/.370/.507. 877 OPS, 139 OPS+. Only Lewis beat that, and in even fewer PAs.
  13. Sands to St Paul seems pretty obvious, to me at least.
  14. This is such a bad take. Obtaining a starter was clearly the goal in trading Polanco. Just because they got a bad one doesn't change that. DeSclafani was the target of that trade, without him there's no deal. The rest was filler.
  15. I keep reading this and I think to myself, how stupid do you think this front office is? They didn't trade Polanco for Topa and an A ball outfielder. They clearly targeted a starting pitcher in the Polanco trade. It was (and is) the glaring hole in the roster. That they got a very iffy one, to which more needed to be added, doesn't change what Polanco was dealt for.
  16. Warm climes? Like Ft Myers Florida? Anywho, as to the OP, I generally am less optimistic about this team in 2024 than most here, and the slow start to ST certainly hasn't changed my mind. I don't think adding aging Carlos Santana, Desclafani, Paddack, and a bunch of iffy relievers improved last years team. And we're counting pretty heavily on multiple youngsters to prove last year was real.
  17. Only need the punch line: "you go back up there and tell off that bus driver. I'll watch the monkey."
  18. By that logic, every beer eventually ends up a waste.
