  1. I'm curious what you suggest a poker player (playing stud) do with a low pair, if not draw 3 cards?
  2. Gonna go out on a limb here and just flatly state that information is easily obtainable.
  3. Torii Hunter is my second favorite Twins player ever. But I don't think that qualifies him to manage.
  4. Canterino hasn't thrown a pitch in a game since 2022. 85 IP total in his minor league career. Surgery again in 2025. Zero chance. Even IF miracles coalesce and he somehow manages to defy all odds and throw a pitch from a mound in 2026, He'd be nowhere near ready to pitch in the show.
  5. Hey, you are entitled to your opinion that depending on Desclafani to solidify the rotation of a supposed contender was a good gamble. To each his own. You 'n Falvey can take that to the grave. Find me one single solitary person associated with the Seattle Mariners-owner, front office, field staff, player, reporter, or fan) who wouldn't do that trade again without a moment's hesitation. Just one. Idiotic trade by Falvey.
  6. Took the words right out of my...thumbs. Exactly the type of guy they should be looking at. I hope he gets an interview. And any further interviews go to similar types with experience and a seeming familiarity with and appreciation for instruction and the game of baseball.
  7. The Polanco trade was, and remains, one of the worst in team history. Instantly made the team weaker, with zero short term and only minor, if any, long term help. DeSclafani. LOL. Just a horrible idea.
  8. "And that is what the modern MLB manager really is. They are not the old-school tacticians from the 70s or 80s pulling every lever in the dugout. Most matchups, pinch-hits, and bullpen decisions are mapped out by the front office and support staff long before the first pitch." Nonconcur. Strongly. Mapping out bullpen usage (for example) before the first pitch is analytics gone bizarro-world. Good managers have lots of information before the game starts, but use their experience combined with situational awareness and smarts to make real time decisions. I hope to god we can get away from this idiotic idea that a baseball game can be planned out in advance. It's one of the reasons baldelli was so routinely outmanaged by actual managers. I don't know if Hunter would be a good manager. I'm not optimistic. But I absolutely DO believe he'd be resistant to the idea you can make bullpen decisions at noon for a 7 PM game, or preplan pinch hitters simply based on handedness. Or decide a starter will pitch twice through a lineup no matter his actual performance. And good on him if that's the case.
  9. Minor point, but the idea of "replacement level" is zero WAR, not negative WAR. 0 WAR is represents a theoretically freely available player who would "replace" your regular players and provide no value in terms of wins. Zero "Wins Above Replacement. Your other players are measured against this zero WAR standard. A 4 WAR player is theoretically 4 wins better than a replacement player. Four "Wins Above Replacement." There can also be negative WAR players who theoretically cost you more wins than the zero WAR replacement player. Not that I believe WAR is very accurate or useful. But that's the theory.
  10. This is a for-profit site. They make money by getting views. Content drives views. So yes. I'd imagine they expect their writing team to put out daily content. At, uh...Twins Daily. Now, if people want smoke blown up their collective asses, I guess that could be done. Personally, I'd rather the editorial marching orders be an attempt at honesty, good or bad. Call it like you see it. And again, Personally, I think there's precious little good about this organization to write about currently. I'd be hard pressed to come up with bunnies and unicorns to write about....daily.
  11. It's not the commissioner that doesnt want a salary cap and floor. It's the MLBPA fighting tooth and nail.
  12. I think his point, a pretty good one, is that last spring we were told the team was $400M in debt. Now, $500M in debt is floated. So they're claiming to have lost $100M this season. For the record, I don't believe either of those figures. Not a chance. I doubt they're actually in debt at all. Possibly a little leftover from 2020, but even that's hard to believe. That's 5 years ago.
  13. Given the state of the MLB bullpen, I expect to see Cabrera on the opening day 26 man roster. I did not say he should be. Non-tender date is in late November. We'll know more then.
  14. That's one thing money does, sure. But I'd say the reason people keep missing the money-winning correlation is they don't bother to do any investigation, and/or don't understand sample size.
  15. Your first mistake is focusing on only the final couple months of Baldelli's tenure. Widen your view. He managed here for years. Managed poorly.
