  1. He needs to be on the 40 man roster by Aug 31 to be eligible. Obviously he already is. There are even exceptions to that rule for injury. He doesn't need to be on the 26 man. Teams set their playoff roster from the 40 man prior to each postseason series. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/postseason-roster-rules-eligibility
  2. It's a close call, but I think we're at the point in the season where it makes sense to see if Varland can help in a short relief role. That's not a guarantee, BTW. If (when, most likely) the Twins need a starter, the available options aren't significantly worse anyway.
  3. They'll dabble at the margins with cheap reclamation project bullpen options, like they always do. But yeah, unless payroll goes up, there's not much money to play with. And if there IS more payroll, there will be better ways to spend it than 39 yo Santana.
  4. Except we know that none of the teams that made deadline deals gave up highly rated prospects. I guess you could make the case Houston gave up a pitcher in a similar, but lower universe as Festa. So I don't think "too expensive in prospects" makes much sense, particularly for relief help. Arizona got AJ Puk (11 IP, 8 baserunners and 1 run allowed) for 2 guys not even in their OWN top 10.
  5. SWR struggled, but battled through 5 with only 1 run. Nice Job, Mr Woods Richardson. Also good to see Julien hit some line drives and get rewarded. Last year's Julien would be a welcome addition. I've been to Petco. Nice place, but not sorry to get the **** out of town.
  6. Turned a 6-1 road trip into a 4-3 road trip. Which is better than 3-4.
  7. You're really going there? After a game in which Rocco uses Okert in the 8th with a 2 run lead and Sands a day later with an 8 run lead? A couple days after watching a reliever turn a 4 run lead into a 1 run deficit without so much as looking up from his spreadsheet?
  8. If that keeps you abreast of the situation, sure.
  9. It'd go faster if we didn't score so many damn runs.
  10. IMO he's a poor man's Willi Castro in development.
  11. Oh he'll come out for the 5th, for sure. That wasn't the question.
