  1. High upside bats early, then projectable high school pitchers later.
  2. Yeah, doesn't seem like there is that level of talent at the top at this time. Would be nice to get a prospect of that level in the system.
  3. This thread is cool. On the other baseball forum I post at there isn't any MLB Draft talk at this time (heats up closer to June) so looking forward to discussing the draft with yall throughout the next 6 months! I love following the draft.
  4. It seems to me the original info that came out about the Cards, Giants, and a few other teams was possibly a ploy to get the Dodgers to think other teams are interested. Now that a few days are going by, and individual beat reporters of those teams have talked to people within their organizations and they are being ruled out one by one. TODAY: St. Louis is not “actively” working to acquire Dozier, per ESPN.com’s Mark Saxon (via Twitter). YESTERDAY, 8:55pm: Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post tweets that the Nationals haven’t made any “serious” inquiries in Dozier. That could suggest that the Nats at least did some due diligence and checked in on the asking price, but with no natural fit for Dozier in D.C., it doesn’t seem they’re in hot pursuit. For those speculating on other possible landing spots for Dozier, FanRag’s Jon Heyman tweets that the Braves aren’t in on Dozier, and Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press tweets that the Athletics aren’t in play either. 3:56pm: The Cardinals and Nationals are both among the teams showing interest in Twins second baseman Brian Dozier, 1500 ESPN’s Darren Wolfson reports (Twitter link). The Cardinals are “very much in” the mix for the slugger, while the Nats “remain in dialogue” with the Twins. The Dodgers and Giants, two clubs previously connected to Dozier (moreso Los Angeles), are also still involved, though the Giants are “trying to get creative” to make a deal work, as per Wolfson.
  5. Chelsea Janes ‏@chelsea_janes 3m3 minutes ago A person familiar with Nationals' thinking said they haven't made any serious inquiries on Twins' Dozier. No natural fit there.
  6. I was just talking about how he did in his 1st four MLB starts (not very good). Those starts happened, so they do matter. I like De Leon as a prospect and would be happy with him as part of the return for Dozier. For the most part - your points are talking about different things than I stated, so I'm just going to leave it at that. You're right he threw an absurd amount of fastballs. His 66.1 FB% would have been top 10 in the MLB over the course of a full season. In his 2 non Padres starts, he struggled to get swinging strikes (3.1% vs NYY and 7.2% against ARI).
  7. I'd prefer De Leon, but it's not that much of a stretch. Stewart is (only) ~10months older, and if you told me Stewart would have a better career, I wouldn't be all that surprised. People are underestimating how good Stewart actually is.
  8. Looks like an MLB ready middle of the rotation starter with the upside for better. That's pretty good, with 6 years of control left.
  9. Please expand.
  10. These comparisons are way off. De Leon is a way better prospect than Tyler Jay, Alvarez than Romero, De Jong than Jorge.. Buehler than Thorpe, Stewart than Slegers and Calhoun than Arraez. Not sure what the purpose of these comparisons were
  11. If De Leon, Alvarez, Stewart were all on the table the deal would be complete by now.
  12. I read a while ago about minor league pitchers with good stuff who can put up low walk numbers in part due to pounding the strike zone and overmatching minor league hitters, but they struggle once they get to the MLB in part due to lack of command that just wasn't necessary in the minor leagues. I think Berrios and De Leon both fall into this category.
  13. If we are going for the lower upside players with the 3rd and 4th pieces I wouldn't mind picking up 2 players the Dodgers got from the Jays for international cap space to sign Vlad Jr.. Chase De Jong and Tim Locastro. Locastro likely doesn't project to be anymore than a bench piece but he has the Brandon Guyer HBP skill going on and doesn't strikeout. De Jong could be a back of the rotation starter, extreme flyball profile. Yasiel Sierra was good in AA strictly as a reliever, could be a guy.
  14. Seems like there is a lot of difference in values on TwinsDaily regarding what the return should be for Dozier.
  15. Alvarez I can agree with you, but Buehler is not in his tier at this point IMO.
  16. I liked De Leon as a prospect in the minors but there are definite concerns here. I didn't like how he looked in his 4 MLB starts. His fastball looked fringy sitting 89-92 and he had poor command of it missing his spots. Hitters laid off of his changeup after his first start vs SD and sat fastball which was rather hittable. And then the shoulder issues are a problem as well (a rather large one)> Hopefully it was just a combination of end of season fatigue and rookie nerves, because it wasn't pretty. On the contrary his 1st start against the Padres was very good and hopefully an indicator of what his potential is. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jose-de-leon-looked-exactly-as-advertised/
  17. It's 100% the right time to trade Dozier. Value will be only going down as his years of control diminishes, and if they start this coming season with him they risk that he has a down season or gets injured and tanks his value.
  18. http://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/heyman-dodgers-twins-standstill-dozier-trade-talks/ Heyman reporting what Dave has been saying since after the 24 hours were up. Though Dave is saying that the team has agreed to JDL/Alvarez and balking on the 3rd and 4th pieces. Heyman reporting they have agreed to JDL and the Dodgers are balking on Alvarez/Buehler as the 2nd piece. I have a hard time believing that the Dodgers would balk on Buehler or Alvarez as the 2nd piece of the deal. Dozier just put up a 6 fWAR season and is being paid on the cheap for the next 2 years at a position they need.
  19. You're right, Buehler is too much of a prospect to be considered a lottery ticket throw in.
  20. If Stewart was the 3rd piece the deal would be done by now. Twins want rookie ball lottery tickets (Lux, Buehler, Heredia, or others more under the radar etc.) as the last pieces. Dodgers want the last players to be AA/AAA 45 FV guys with little upside.
  21. Count me in.
  22. They lost Chapman but replaced him with Uehara/Wade Davis, and are looking at a 1st full season from Carl Edwards Jr, Rob Zastryzny, Felix Pena. They did lose Fowler, but are now looking at a full season from Kyle Schwarber, Willson Contreras, Albert Almora.. Both teams will be really good, so it's kind of moot.
  23. There are projected standings here: http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings Dodgers/Cubs/Red Sox are all in the top tier with 93-95 wins Giants/Indians/Nationals/Astros with ~90 Then a slew of teams in the 75-85 range, and the White Sox/Reds/Phillies/Brewers/Padres on the bottom of the barrel.
  24. Sounds gross but how about Angel Pagan?
