  1. Here's the problem with the bullpen: Do you ever watch that pitch counter in the corner of the TV screen when guys like Hughes, Gibson, Mejia amd Santiago are pitching? It registers like 92 pitches in the 5th inning game-in and game-out. Then the relief corp has to be pulled in and pitch the last half of the game. OF COURSE, the bullpen is going to be fried by Memorial Day!!!! This has been going on for years and years. Every year the same thing. It's frustrating. Yes, the bullpen can some take some of the blame at times, But you can't allow your relief pitchers to come down with dead arms 1/3 of the way through the season. Until we fortify the back end of the rotation with guys that can semi-regularly pitch into the 7th inning nothing will change. Why can't this organization either acquire or develop quality starters (beyond Berrios)? Other teams do.. The Cards do. The Rays do. For crying out loud...
  2. For sure. I was just throwing out the 6 million (something in the middle) for explanation purposes.
  3. No, just the one player. Maybe a real-world scenario might help explain it: Shane Baz is a H.S. pitcher from Texas that the Twins have reportedly expressed interest in. Generally he's expected to go anywhere from the 8th to 14th overall pick. The bonus for that range would be somewhere between $3.7 million to $4.8 million. Now, let's say the Twins go to Baz (and his agents) and say "Look, Shane, we like Hunter Greene and Kyle Wright but you're not far behind in our eyes. If we take you at 1-1 would you sign for $6 million?". If he says no then you just pass and move on. If he says yes, then Baz makes maybe 1 to 2.5 million more that he would have if he was taken later. Also, the Twins save about $1.7 million in slot money since they're not paying a full $7.7 million in bonus for 1-1. Win-win for both sides. The Twins can then use some of the savings to cut a better deal with someone in the #35 or #37 picks (give the player more than slot). Or, they could sweeten the pot for a H.S. player in the 10th round that fell in the draft because he told teams he was intent on going to college. It just gives the Twins more leverage through the rest of the draft as far as working with the bonus money.
  4. Then we just need to coax ex-major league catcher Dave Nilsson out of retirement (at what, age 50 by then?) and we can have an all-Aussie battery!
  5. Saw that Tyler Benninghoff was mentioned in the 31-40 comments. Could definitely see him in the countdown this time next year. Obviously, this year is all about Tyler getting his feet wet and staying healthy. Seth- any thoughts on Johan Quezada? Big arm, but really needs to harness the control. Roughly the same prospect status as last year; maybe another go-round at E-Town?
  6. Rooker and Deichmann were draft eligible sophomores in '16? Any one know what the age requirements are for this?
  7. Good post! Hard to argue with any of these names. Hopefully, a Chris Paul promo to Chattanooga wouldn't cost TJ White his job. Sort of like that kid. Maybe they could co-exist on the roster somehow. Wonder if Poppen's teammate at CR, Clark Beeker, warrants a look for a promo soon. Have to think Zander Wiel will be with the Lookouts by July/August.
  8. Love it! All three Twins you mocked. Danner, Houck (although he kind of stunk today in conf tourney) and Wright. Also, like Schmidt a lot. One other guy - Mark Vientos SS/3B California HS kid. Think he was a top-5 prospect at one point till his stock dropped for some reason. Maybe good value in that case.
  9. Love the idea that a bunch of our stud pitching prospects are back in action. Gonsalves, Thorpe, Jay, Reed...hopefully Shaggy soon.
  10. Thought the same thing! Ha! I guess the surgery for the UCL tear was much more extensive than first thought. Also, why is Lewis using a hula hoop for a belt?
  11. I suppose he could be having some inconsistencies with his secondary stuff at this point in the season too. Understand he's had some issues with that in the past. It;s a lot tougher to try to get by on just your heater at AA than at Cedar Rapids or Fort Myers. In any event, big part of the Twins' future.
  12. Was hoping Romero could help anchor the top half of the Twins rotation by 2019. But he's been struggling at Chattanooga lately. Just a blip on the radar or should we be a little worried?
  13. Just looked up the bio on Lachlan Wells. Didn't realize he is still just 20 years old (3 years younger than the average in the FSL). But the interesting thing I saw was that he was just 16 yrs old when playing for Sydney in the Australian Baseball League! And get this...he was 9.5 years younger than the average pitcher in that league. 9 1/2 years!!! Wow...
  14. So Pedro Florimon goes 5 for 5 for the Iron Pigs. I always knew he was all stick and no glove. (I kid, I kid)
  15. Very much looking forward to what Law thinks the Twins should do in the draft.
  16. Any other day and Chris Paul is probably your hitter of the day going 2-4. a walk, 2 runs, 3 RBI and walkoff HR. Tough to surpass a 3 dinger night from Davis though.
  17. Always enjoy watching the College World Series. But I especially enjoy watching it when the Twins draft a player that then ends up playing on one of the participating teams. I remember back in 2013 the Twins drafted Ryan Eades and then he played for LSU in the CWS a week or so later. Just kind of cool. I guess we could possibly see the same with Brendan McKay or Kyle Wright this year as both are in the mix for the #1 pick and Louisville and Vandy are decent bets for Omaha.
  18. Wednesday not looking good. What'ya think, double header on Thursday or shoehorn in a makeup game on a Twins/Rockies off-day down the line sometime? Oh, and if a double header on Thursday, who's the callup for 26th man? Our guy Buddy B. called up for the umpteenth time this year?
  19. Well, compared to some of our other 1st rounders I'll take it!
  20. You don't think they'd try to shoehorn in a makeup game later in the season on a dual off day for both teams. Doubt they'd do a day-night doubleheader on the Rockies getaway day. Traditional double header, I guess, is possible but that affects the cash register (cha-ching!).
  21. Wow. Wasn't Crawford like top-5 as little as a year ago? Man...
  22. If someone told you McKay as a 1B would mash HR's and also hit for avg would you still go pitcher at 1-1, Seth? It's true, corner infielders rarely get picked at #1 and pitching is super important.
  23. Good to see TJ White off the DL and healthy again. Never seems to have gaudy numbers offensively but he always seems to be in the middle of things and helping his team in a lot of different ways.
  24. Interesting thought... if Kohl Stewart was a dual threat like McKay, would he have been switched to a position player by now? Or still too soon?
