  1. Does Andy McPhail have any children ??
  2. I was going to say something like, "hindsight" and "time to let it go". Then I looked at his 2000-2002 stats: .265 BA, 48 HR, 186 RBI A ballerina at 1st? Er, no. Neither is Sano in RF Different era.
  3. "Regardless of his offensive contributions, he bring an immediate upgrade defensively to the Twins lineup, as his play and range in center field was solid even during his offensive struggles. " No. Cheap excuse for his lack of hitting in the MLB. D. Santana may have some issues defensively, but not completely horrible. A .260 BA is palatable for a guy predicted to be in the "super-sub" catagory. Issues: MiLB numbers, Fantastic! SSS, 29 Games, 116 AB's. Buxton's perchance for injuries is a big issue. ++AB's in the MiLB are needed to determine if he will be durable enough for the Twins needs. I also believe it's a "comfort thing" for Buxton: a "self inflicted pressure" thing. A recent article on the MiLB.com drew some attention to this. I'm actually surprised they haven't been searching for another Grossman/Mastroianni-type to fill in. Left out 4. I really, really hope I'm wrong and Buxton stays healthy and he's learned his lessons in MiLB and translates it to MLB success!!
  4. I think people are over-estimating the whole leg-kick thing. It isn't much more than a timing mechanism. The light-switch for Puckett turned on when he started using one. Maybe it's changing Buxton's perchance to lunge at low and away pitches? And, of course, this doesn't work for everyone. Sano has a big ( HUGE ) upper cut and has had a horrible start. After he worked with Bruno and Hernandez, the change made was the opposite of the leg-kick: They worked to quiet down his movement in the batters box and, well he's on a tear. Dozier: looks like a brain transplant is necessary. With leg-kick
  5. If Buxton hits, it's all a non-issue, correct? Between the injuries and non-hitting, I don't fault management a lot.
  6. Actually Jeremy, I don't follow the MLB Draft that much. Generally speaking, there isn't much instant gratification for me It sounds pretty much like I thought: a draft setup to help poorer teams build, but exclusions that benefit teams with more money. I read further that this doesn't happen a lot and some weird thing where teams that take advantage of this need to draft more in lower rounds? Thanks, Jeremy
  7. "Teams with big pools will cut deals with prep pitchers to drop to their second pick." Can someone explain this to me? Sounds a little fishy..
  8. Nice to see Rosario getting his head back in the game. He just seemed out of it this year. Buxton: all I want to see is a few hundred AB's uninterrupted by injuries. Where the heck is Alex Meyer these days? Last I read, he had some shoulder fatigue. Looks like the Twins will need more starters after another poor start by Hughes. Could use one with Meyer's fastball.
  9. I didn't switch to the game until later. I figured the game would be in the 5-6th inning. It as only the 3rd and the Twins had a 3 runs on the board and Fernandez had this befuddled look on his face. Glorious !! Dean looked incredible: moving the ball around, changing speeds Sano looked really comfortable last night. I think he, and the rest of the team, may be turning the corner. 3 in a row?
  10. Now is not the time to make trades. Or, should I say, waste your time trying to make one. Sell high, not low. As the year goes on, more player will come up hurt. Remember this? http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24655128/twins-trade-kevin-correia-to-dodgers-for-player-to-be-named Wait for other teams to have roster needs. Quoting Platoon: Personally I think the trading criteria should be "how can I straighten out our own roster, and our 40 man" not what can I get in return. You can literally get something for everyone. If it's an A-baller and a AA, in many cases on the Twins roster, that would be a great success. In many others, a "Correa-like" trade for cash would still clear a spot.
  11. I'm not big on compare teams year to year and especially not to other teams. What disappoints me the most is the change from what these players were doing in Spring Training and what there are doing now. This from the Strib article on Brunansky: "This is not the offense Brunansky expected to see coming out of spring training, and he is constantly searching for ways to reprogram hitters who have gotten away from what they do well." This one tells it al for me: "A whopping 33 of their 44 homers have been solo shots." Blame Bruno all you want, but this is on the players. Only I know right now it Brian Dozier it the appointed "clubhouse leader". Yeah, he sure is leading........
  12. Thanks for the info. BTW: isn't the Competitive Balance Lottery also known as the Sad Sack Lottery??
  13. Thanks Seth. Question: Can same-day trades of draft picks be made? I see a player who was drafted can be traded in the same year, after the World Series is over. Don't understand that at all. It seems like we have a lot of 'swing for the fences' types right now. Twins don't need guys like Walker or Palka, We need a bunch of OBP and OPS (+) guys. Buxton is healthy again, after being injured, yet again. His overall AAA stats look really great: 394 OBP, 970 OPS. I've always been concerned with his lack of walks, but those numbers are tough to dispute. Replication at the MLB level, is. Hoping for the best! Rosario: I was in the group that thought he had learned from last year. Obviously not. Arcia: I applaud him for getting in great shape. I also wag my finger at him and ask: why didn't you do this before? I pass on Arcia next year. Santana still has value and is just being played to much right now because of need.
  14. Ok, I'm with you now. Sorry about that, I misunderstood. Polanco is the one that probably disturbs me the most. He's had callups over the past few years and again this year. And he's produced! I've also heard he doesn't have the are for SS. I've watched him play there: he most definitely has the arm. I'd definitely like to see MiLB'ers play more when called up. If nothing else, we'd learn more about what they need to work on. Sorry, but wins still count for something
  15. My one question on Sano: How much influence does Roc Nation have on him?
  16. I'm not a defender of anything the Twins do. What I do know, the wave of complaints against the Twins will not be satiated by bringing up a bunch of MiLB'ers and watching them fail. You've got to provide some glimmer of hope. What I have seen of the MiLB'er so far, they need more time. Rotate out the veterans who have been failing so far and move in some MiLB players
  17. Lifetime .586 win percentage. And the current starters are what, again? Change is the best idea right now. I wouldn't expect youth to be much more than young.
  18. Heres' my take: has Milone ever had a series of bad starts, claiming he's really OK, then suddenly declares he's injured after another bad start? That's been Nolasco's M.O. for a couple years now. At least Milone is cheaper and doesn't whine. Yeah, that's the best I got.....
  19. Do the Twins need hire someone with experience as a big league GM? No. Do the Twins need hire someone with experience working for a successful, experienced, big league GM? Yes. I want the whole package. I want a guy that: 1. knows his own Farm System and knows the needs of developing a Farm System looking towards the future. i.e. Backfilling for those position players that graduated for MLB or got cut. What's lacking at the lower levels right now. 2. a guy that's not afraid to spend in the International Market 3. Scouting: IMO, eyeball test is more important than stats. However, advanced metrics, when used properly, are very very valuable. 4. role of MiLB Managers: part baby sitter, part disciplinarian, full-time teacher of basic skills 5. on-field staff: Billy freaking Martin and Dallas Green. These Twins seem pretty weak to me. Molitor is being too nice, IMO. 6. If the manager isn't evaluating from day 1, YOU ARE FIRED!! 7. Outfield situation: we know what the contracts look like. a realistic solution won't be for a couple years. Right now: the Arcia experiment needs to stop, Dozier seems delusional, Hughes and Nolasco are repeating career histories and Jepsen would not be a part of future plans. Sano will eventually get time at 3rd, but unless something changes, his destiny is DH. 8. Stay clear of free agency. Develop, Develop, Develop. Those pitchers in the $150-200 range will NOT want to sign with the Twins. Since the Twins need a lot of everyday player help, I'd spend the money on position players. 9. Doug Mientkiewicz?? No. Not that I think he's a bad guy. I want an experienced MLB manager or HIGHLY respected coach / Bench coach. The future is not this year. It is a "maybe" for next year.
