  1. Personally, I'm saving myself a lot of consternation and waiting to see what happens during Sano's rehab stint. Plouffe's playing time at 1st seems to indicate a changing of the tide...
  2. When it was first brought up, the concept of a 4-man rotation of Mauer, Park, Plouffe and Sano rotating between 1st, 3rd and DH did not mean a merry-go-round type rotation. If a play is on a hot streak, you don't mess with the streak. Mauer and Park would obviously not be part of a 3rd base rotation. Sano [1st, 3rd, DH, RF-maybe] and Plouffe [1st, 3rd, DH] have more flexibility. The concept is to free-up positions and more time for guys like Kepler to get more playing time. I don't know where Sano will play in the short-term, but I'd keep my options open. Wherever he plays on the field, Sano will not be confused for a ballerina. In the end, I think he's a DH. BTW: Love that picture of Sano. LOOK; up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! LOL
  3. Santana was a terrible SS: great arm, terrible footwork. One thing leads to another. Pretty good reason why he's almost exclusively and OF now.
  4. Quite a bit of difference training to be a SS as opposed to covering a wide range in CF.
  5. Yeah, Ortiz was a good hitter with the Twins. The argument against Ortiz seemed to come from Tom Kelly, who wanted Ortiz to hit " The Twins Way". i.e. slap the ball to the opposite field, instead of swinging for the fences. Win some, lose some...
  6. I'm actually a fan of Danny Santana. I think the real problem with him is 2 fold: The Twins are playing him far too much and wearing him out He's being played too much because Buxton still hasn't shown himself to be a full-time player. Not sure what the Twins have as an alternate CF.
  7. thanks for that info. I'm still not up on all the advanced stats. Interesting stuff.
  8. The demise of Oswaldo Arcia could likely be the demise of Buxton, Kepler and several others: extraordinarily long swings. I don't know where this all started, but I'd have to question how this got through the entire MiLB system. I don't want to see a return to "The Twins Way", but reality should start setting in. Arcia almost didn't make it out of Spring Training. If I remember correctly, Darin Mastroianni, Carlos Quentin or Ryan Sweeney were the other options. That tells me a lot. His MLB .732 OPS [MLB average] is highly influenced by his occasional power. Per FanGraphs: "The problem with OPS is that one point of OBP and one point of SLG are not equal. OBP is about twice as valuable as SLG, meaning that OPS overrates power hitters and underrates high-OBP guys." My best hope for Arcia is that he ends up in Boston, somehow, and listens to David Ortiz. There's a lot of similarities, except for the swing. Ortiz has a short, quick swing [not choppy] that Arcia needs to be successful. Best wishes!
  9. Hanging in the weeds for that response, weren't ya Well played!
  10. I was going to post something similar, but different It's pretty well known that in the off-season, Perkins will work with his own choice of trainers. Pretty sure all pro athletes do the same. Question are: was there any labrum / overall shoulder exam during pre-post season workout planning? what were those workouts like? Did they cause further damage to his labrum? is there any coordination between Twins medical staff and the outside trainers? In this new Strib article, Twins management was hoping for the best and it just didn't work out that way. http://www.startribune.com/twins-closer-glen-perkins-to-miss-remainder-of-season/383299501/ I'm really not seeing issues on how Twins medical staff. Perkins went into Spring Training saying he was good to go and pitched well. Obviously, aggravated the now known issue. Edit: Very sad to hear this happen to Perkins. At 33, I hope he can still make a comeback.
  11. Boy, last nights game day forum sure exited quickly
  12. Rosario, just like Buxton and Sano [to a somewhat lesser extent] have come to the MLB as undisciplined players. People can blame the coaches all they want, but in the end it's up to the players. Strike 1, strike 2 and low and away until they finally swing. Buxton looked great at the beginning of this last call up, but has fallen back into the pattern. There's no such thing as a prospect being "blocked". If they are truly that good, nothing should/would be in their way.
  13. Thanks for the explanation. I confess, I don't often look a 40 man roster implications.
  14. I'm not really following the Meyer tie in, but the Twins have been burning through the bullpen due to starting pitcher's injury or ineffectiveness. So, it did become an "emergency" to add a relief pitcher. Too bad Ramirez couldn't get here sooner to save Chargois a trip.
  15. I think what it shows is, like many of the other call-ups, it was NOT managements intention to bring them up at this point of their development. Emergency triggered it. Neil Rameriz is signed, Chargois sent back to AAA.
  16. To be fair [ and if my recollection is worth a crap ] Buxton, Berrios, Chargois, Kepler were brought up because of need and not an actual judgement of their readiness for the MLB. I think that can be said for all of the MiLB'ers that were brought up this year, with the exception of Buxton. And that move still puzzles me because there was no backup plan in sight, except for super-sub Danny Santana. Last players called up and became stars? Mauer, hell yeah. Perkins, eventually, after the move to bullpen. I'm leary of these list and MiLB rankings, overall. Not a criticism of those who create them. Maybe it's just me getting over excited and calling for them to be brought up immediately. Like Buxton.
  17. I was in and out of watching the game, but caught all the fun parts. And Nolasco's typical nutty. Great Win!
  18. shoulda been a butt-crack warning on this one...........
  19. Well, this is the kind of game I expected against a knuckleballer.
