  1. Possibly. I would think that would include the Braves picking up a portion of the remaining salary of Garcia. Would be nice to settle the 4-5 positions in the rotation. EDIT: Well, cancel that idea: 8:24pm: Minnesota is “very likely” to take over all of Garcia’s remaining salary (about $4.7MM), per 1500 ESPN’s Darren Wolfson (via Twitter).
  2. Bah humbug! You missed Option #4: Don't screw up. :-)
  3. Rant-On As I've posted before: I've lived through the days with the Twins when guys like Willie Banks were considered to be hot prospects. Then I learned the true meaning of 'hot prospects': hot in relation to the Twins, not the entire MLB. Willie had his moments and pitched until he was 33. In the end, pretty underwhelming. I say this because I think the new FO's questioning how good the Twins MiLB pitchers really are. It's the only reason I can think of when the Twins are rotating guy like Tepesch, Turley, Wilk, Santiago and Colon in and out of the rotation. With a whole season to evaluate the system from top to bottom, I would expect Falvey and Levine to make significant changes to Twins MiLB rosters. Well, wish, is probably a lot closer. Rant-Off
  4. While his offense is better, you can still get Rosario to swing at a low breaking ball out of the zone on a 2 strike count. His defense this year, after some pretty good years, has been disturbing. But I still hope that he's getting it all together.
  5. Ugh. Just when I thought I'd flushed the names of Capps, Jepsen, Rauch and Fuentes out of my mind...... So, who do the Twins have to trade that will get them some Madson and Doolittle types? Seems those are exactly the types of guys they need to bridge the gap to Rogers and Duffey to Kintzler. Could a pair similar to Madson and Doolittle be what we can expect in a Dozier trade?
  6. Nice to see a Twins win against the Yankees. I'm wondering.... Should the Twins start contemplating rotating Polanco around the diamond. His hitting is way down. I have to wonder if playing exclusively at SS has something to do with it. He just doesn't look that good there. Maybe start rotating some with Dozier? Dozier at DH for a game or 2 to keep him fresh? Would really like to see Escobar's playing time stay consistent while he's hitting. Is Mejia the real deal? Or can he be? I can't find any stats on this, but he seems to get pulled around the 5th inning every game. I was hoping he'd be more of an innings eater. What's wrong with Duffey? Has Rosario figured it all out?
  7. In this season, we need to ignore the record and keep on the development path. I'd like to see 2 things from management: I wish the Twins would quit playing around with guys like Belisle, Bosher, Breslow, etc, and start a steady stream callup of MiLB relievers. Be active in the trade discussions.
  8. Agree. I think Samardzija might be suffering from the "innings eater" thing. Cutting back on his innings might be helpful.
  9. Young and successful. A nice thing to have and covet. I would think Fulmer would be a really tough get. Hey, keep 'em coming! I love this time of year!
  10. My wonderment is more along the lines of: Is this a negative indictment from the Twins FO on the quality of Twins MiLB starting pitching?
  11. Kintzler trade: Couldn't / shouldn't the Twins get more than a single, 19 yr. old lefty with only 1 year and 13.2 innings pitched? Like the idea of adding Stroman. Not sure you'd be able to convince Liriano to work outta the bullpen. Bird may be out of the trade discussion for Santana. From the Post: "on June 20, received a cortisone shot in the right ankle that had been bothering the first baseman since the last week of spring training." Like the idea of adding Mateo. Niko Goodrum to the Philadelphia Phillies for RHP Pat Neshek: YES, about 100 times. Shore up the bullpen for this year and next.
  12. Umm, yeah, I think you're right. I probably read a Surgeon looked at May's back and translated that into a surgery. My bad! But what I was getting at was May has had repeated injuries and you just can't bet the house on a guy like that. Maybe they're right, that being a starter will put less stress on his body. Would be nice to have some more stability in the rotation!
  13. 2018 rotation: The Removing Clutter edition: We just can't count on Trevor May for next year. In back to back season, spinal surgery and elbow tear. He'll need some basic strength building time and adequate time to build up innings to be a starter, if that's still the plan. Liked Gibson in his early career; saw some real possibilities as a #3-type innings eater. Now, not so much. Rest of the starting rotation? Keep Berrios. Oh, I'd keep Mejia, too simply because we haven't seen enough of him yet. Bullpen: Keep Duffey and Rogers. So, what have I got here, 4 guys on the pitching staff? Sounds about right. I left Santana and Kintzler off the list because I'm waiting for a couple weeks after the All Start break for the playoff picture to get a little more clearer and to see who needs the pitching help. That's where we start rebuilding the rotation and pick up some better RP's. And, yeah, I'm still thinking trading for Neshek. Earlier this year, Jim Pohlad opened the squeaky hinges of the Twins wallet and hired a search team to find new management for the team. Given a new direction from Falvey and Levine for the team, I think we could hear that wallet opening again. Like Mike said, 3 #3-types would look pretty good for a start.
  14. Yup! To me, spending big bucks on one guy is a waste of bucks. Spend on the youngish #3's to better fill out the entire rotation.
  15. Seems a bit long to me....
  16. Welcome to Twins Daily! As you probably already know, we like our Twins and REALLY like to talk about them.
  17. Well, the Astro's lineup last night had 5 players in it who are hitting over .300 and another just a few points behind. On the mound for the Twins, a young pitcher who's still trying to find his way. I was hoping for something under double digits, but Berrios isn't just quite there yet. If there was anything good coming out of this game, they didn't run out their 3 core bullpen pitchers (Duffey, Rogers and Kintler) and the number of walks they had.
  18. I don't believe that moves by other teams really affect the Twins. Falvey and Levine have enough on their plate right now in just getting them back to respectability.
  19. In his 18 year career, Wade Boggs hit double-digit homers twice. Then there's the .328 lifetime average and some Gold Gloves. People need to start moving away from the "prototypical" position playing thingy. FWIW: The times I saw Polanco playing 3rd, I thought he did a pretty good job.
  20. I love these kinds of discussions. Kinda gets the juices flowing. However, right now, the Twins are in building mode. Note: I didn't say rebuilding. There are many young plays at the MLB level, with a few veterans to back-fill in time of need. In other words: If I'm the GM, this is not the year to spend big or look at big trade scenarios. I'd be looking for the next guys to step-up and replace those fill-in veterans. Maybe there are some MiLB trades that would be helpful. Easy targets: SP and RP. And, I'm also very leery of any MLB SP that has thrown more that 200 innings over 2-3 years.
  21. Tough call. One one hand, I'd like to see more MLB development of what the Twins have on the field. Some pretty darn good things happening. On the other, I'd like to see the Twins on top of trade or two. I agree with management: no reason to chase short-term fixes. I could definitely get behind an offer of Dozier and Gordon for some quality starter, reliever and a prospect or two. Might take a 3rd team... I'd at least wait until mid-August to see what's happening here and the desperation level of teams headed towards the playoffs.
  22. How about if I changed that to "talented veteran or 2"?
  23. An awful like to like. Would like to see a veteran or 2 added. Just to see how far they could push this year in the 2nd half.
  24. So, working with Rowson is actually working?
