  1. I'm of the mind of: if you're replacing a guy with another guy, why on earth would you keep guy #1 around? The right time to make that swap is debatable: 3 years ago, 4-5 years ago?? In the time that the Pohlad family has owned the Twins, the value of the team has increased by a large percentage. I did the math once and came up with a number like 90+%. Let's take some of that money and give it a spin!
  2. Needs a change to his delivery. His head needs to be down when delivering a pitch. Too early to pick on him ?
  3. I'm with DocBauer: why isn't Eduardo Escobar in the starting SS conversation more? He had injuries this past year and he was called on to several different positions. I believe Polanco is better at 2nd than SS. Does anyone really know what Sano is doing this off-season? Last article I saw said he was going to spend a couple months in New York, where he has a home, to work on his conditioning. Roc Nation is also located there. They had better get with Sano on his conditioning. That or get him an OF instructor. Catching: With Murphy and Garver as the then current choices, I have no issue with signing Castro. FIN: Good pitching helps poor fielders. Or avoids them. Whatever....
  4. Tyler Duffey could greatly benefit from a guy like Bannister. I'm hoping the relative silence from Derek Falvey is because he's working on building up an organization that can help the Twins take the advantage of "science of baseball".
  5. I am up in the air on Santiago and Gibson. Winning wise, I see not much beyond a couple +- .500 pitchers. If there are not much in starting pitching ready in the MiLB for the beginning of the season, I'd keep Santiago and Gibson for the only thing they seem capable of: innings eaters. Of the rest: Definitely keep Escobar. Probably the starting SS. Probably keep Kinsler. Had a good year last year; suffered some with over use at end of the season. Pressly: No. At 28 he has potential?
  6. I would say this: with current options of Murphy and Garver, catching became a priority and a priority that can [was] quickly addressed. Trading for some quality pitching prospects is going to be a pretty long, drawn out process. Pitching is valued higher than just about anything in baseball. FA starting pitcher signings have gone WAY off the charts. IF a trade of Dozier to LA is still being worked on, a return highlighted by 3 LA pitching prospect is probably a tough sell. Just one man's opinion.... Derek Falvey and Thad Levine sound like a couple pretty smart guys. My bet the pitching priority is being looked in organizations not named Los Angels Dodgers. Edit: Looks like I'm WAY behind on this comment
  7. Park: came in hurt or got hurt shortly after the season began. He get's first spot in the 1st / DH rotation. Vargas: I think his time is just about up with the Twins. He's had some nice runs, but hasn't been awe inspiring. Napoli: he's apparently making the rounds and asking for a 3 year contract. Big No on that. I'd rather they keep promoting from within and keep shopping for better pitching.
  8. Sign Mike Napoli? Well, at least it's something to drink about...
  9. I agree that pitching [near and future] is a real need. Target one of the Dodgers top o' the line MiLB starters and when the Dodgers start offering the lessor of that group, add more MiLB starters/relievers to the basket. I'm intrigued with the possibility of adding Yasiel Puig. Very good contract for only 2 more years. You could get one of 2 Puig's: the goofball he was last year or a pissed off Puig who's out to show LA was wrong. With no real evidence [other than he in now 25 yrs. old] I place my bet on the latter. One of De Leon or Alvarez A couple/few young A, AA pitching prospects Bellinger [probably dreaming] Puig Add whatever needed to MN side to make it work.
  10. Well, again, 1st year of the new regime. There are a lot of things that need to be done and I take the signing of Castro as a plus. No confidence in Murphy and I just don't know about Garver. I see the Castro signing as a need. I'll leave it to history do determine how good Castro is to the pitching staff. I'll just say this about his offense: Only 22% of MLB pitchers are left-handed. While Castro's splits against right-handed pitchers is nothing to call home about, his splits against LHP is WAY below that. Full-time 78% of the time and let's see if either of the other catchers develop. Strong start? Umm, IDK. Needed first steps? Yeah. Call it "good / strong" start.
  11. Falvey worked in a successful organization and bringing in veterans to work with young players was part of the process. I say, let's let the process play out.
  12. Oh to be a fly on Falvey and Levine's wall.....
  13. I'd say this one is more do-able than the other. Still don't think it would be for Dozier straight up.
  14. Tossing this in: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/11/dodgers-must-cut-debt-to-comply-with-mlb-rules.html Brian Dozier's contract may look a lot better to the Dodgers now ?
  15. Good Luck, Pat!
  16. Haven't gotten to the other trade proposals yet, but I'm finding the LA trade pretty hard to believe. For Dozier, a middle of the road starter and a injury-recovering closer [who's been predicted to be a shell of himself IF he returns], the Twins get the top Dodgers top prospect, one of it's top pitching prospects and 3 MiLB prospects? And Bellinger would be blocked. BLOCKED I say!! Do it quick before LA's management sobers up
  17. I don't know when the video of Castro framing a pitch was posted, but that sure looks like cheating to me. EXCELLENT SIGNING !
  18. "3 Turkeys: one in oven, one on grill, one deep fried" Are we talking about the pitching staff? http://got-crossfit.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Happy-Thanksgiving.jpg
  19. Sano's bonk-bonk on the head was certainly laugh worthy! Not sure it deserves a "2016 Twins Turkey of the Year" award The "Total System Failure" comment from a team owner gets my vote: Jim Pohlad.
  20. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh186/Retleo/python-my-brain-hurts.jpg
  21. From LEN 3's article on Castro: "Framing pitches is Castro’s strength. He had 96 more strikes called last season than what was expected, according to StatCorner.com. That was fifth best among all catchers. Suzuki was minus-38 in the same category." So, were looking at an improvement of +134 strikes called? I honestly think, baring a trade, this is the best solution the Twins could find. There just aren't any Johnny Bench's or Pudge Rodriguez's around anymore. If a Dozier trade actually goes down, I'd hope a catching prospect is part of it. Murphy was supposed to be that guy. And could still be. I want some backup for the backstop position.
  22. From what I've seen, MN MiLB needs a lot of legit prospects, period. Another rebuild job....
  23. I'll add to this small chorus: http://www.twincities.com/2016/08/10/back-woes-have-minnesota-twins-trevor-may-wondering-whats-next/ "Among the things they discussed was how May has been able to keep his back in line with extra recovery time between outings. This spring, for instance, May’s back was no issue as he built up his pitch count in an abortive attempt at winning the final spot in the starting rotation. " IMHO: May's back issues have been around for a while. Starting Rotation is the only roll he can play on a consistent basis. And even then, he may have to skip a start.
