  1. Oh Casey Fien....waivers are gonna look so good on you.
  2. The throw took the catcher into the basepath so all of those new convoluted rules go out the window but the runner still has to find a way to avoid hitting the catcher.
  3. What the **F** is Glynn doing sending Robinson there with Dozier and Mauer coming up next? Come on, man...that's just dumb baseball.
  4. And the Twins have allowed 3 runs in the first 2 games of this series to that juggernaut of an offense. Given our pitching disaster of the last 2 weeks, that's pretty impressive. Let's hope Santana has his crap together to get the series sweep. All it takes to get back into this mess is to put together a little win streak. Perhaps that players-only meeting yesterday helped them turn a corner.
  5. Sending him down for a rehab assignment is the best move. Give him a week to get his bat back underneath him, given that it's a wrist injury. I wouldn't want him on the big club flailing away and going 0 for his first 14 at-bats and possibly losing confidence and turning into another Hicks. Get things together down in Rochester and then get him back up to the big club. Bux needs a September worth of MLB at-bats to have him grooved for the 2016 season.
  6. Twins won last night. STICK WITH THE RED!!!
  7. I was at the A-Fraud hat trick game and there was a moment in that game that now, to me, is a magnification of the problems going through this team. When Hicks struck out on the check swing with the bases loaded when it was 5-1 and Molitor got ejected, rather than it being a motivator (manager getting tossed), it was the beginning of the downward spiral. This team has won *2* games since that game. First, Perkins gets his disease and blows 2 saves and another game in the 9th and now nobody can hit. Wednesday night with it a 2-run game and 2 men on base, who do we have come to the plate? Fryer and Robinson. A contending major league club does not have that kind of dead weight show up in crucial situations. If ever there was a time that was screaming for a pinch hitter, that was it. When you're in a funk like this, every mistake is magnified exponentially -- not moving runners, not leaving the bases loaded once or twice per game, not finishing out games from the pen. This team needs an enema and no one is stepping up to administer it.
  8. OK, front office, this Boyer guy was cute for like the first month and a half of the season. It's time to send him to the Winnipeg Goldeyes or whatever and clear a roster spot.
  9. I'm totally with you on that. But in Nunez's case, he was still a good 6 feet from the bag and there's not much wiggle room for that with the running lane is there. If he's a step from the bag, then there's more of a beef. From a home plate umpire's perspective (and that's his call), he's looking right down the baseline and he sees Nunez FAR outside the running lane and thus makes that call. It's always the first thing I'm asked if I happen to make that call.
  10. No one ever confused DJ Reyburn for a good umpire. It's not too difficult to have perfect positioning and look right at that play and see how easy of a call it is. Only thing I can think of is that he didn't think Plouffe made contact with his tag. As for the Nunez play, he can't be running that far inside the line. And with interference, you don't necessarily have to make contact or the catch need to be made...you just have to impede the play in order to be dinged for interference. Because he was so far inside the line too far from the base, it's actually a pretty easy call.
  11. I'm not a big fan of his at all but that was the right call on Nunez, unfortunately.
  12. Have to wait til the damn Yankees game is over before I can watch the Twins on the big screen thru Extra Innings. Time to fire up the computer...

  14. This Kazmir guy has been doing this to us for years. He needs to stop.
  15. I have to go to bed around 11 due to a nice early wakeup call. At this rate, this game will be over...or in the 10th inning.
  16. Well that was an annoying way to end the inning.
  17. What angered me most was that they put outfield umpires in place for the playoffs and they have ONE JOB -- get the calls right on the lines. I've umpired 11 years in HS ball and it's a lot tougher to run down the line from first or third to make a call but he was standing right there and couldn't get it right. Either way, I knew that series was dead when they left the bases loaded that inning because you're only gonna have so many chances to win at Yankee Stadium in the playoffs.
  18. Ugh, thanks for the reminder!! My brother's a Yankees fan and he doesn't let me forget about those playoff efforts when it looks like the Twins and Yankees might face off in the postseason. 2004 was the most hurtful, for sure, because of Nathan going out for that 3rd inning of relief in the 12th of Game 2 and giving up the lead that they had worked so hard to get. If I was Gardy, I still would have left him in there to finish it. But geez, they hold on to that one and they likely win one of the 2 games in the Dome to finish them off. 2009, though, could have been a whole different series had that donkey Phil Cuzzi simply done his job correctly and called Mauer's double fair then POSSIBLY the Twins win Game 2 and have a little bit of emotional momentum going back to the Dome. Instead, the ball is called foul, the Twins leave the bases loaded (a horrific trend back then) and the rest is history. I don't EVER want to see the Yankees in the playoffs again. Too much bad team history there. Plus, I wish bad things on Yankees players during those series....and I'm not that kind of person. 0 =)
  19. I'd love to win the division. 4 1/2 games is not an insurmountable deficit to overcome. However, I'm more concerned with continuing the pace they've been on thru the first half of the season. As a fan, my goal is always 2 out of 3 in a series. You win every series (or split a 4-gamer) and you're gonna make up ground just like they did back in May. As the Giants and Royals proved last year, you don't have to win your division to make noise in the playoffs. Just get into the tournament and let things play out from there. How do they maintain that pace? The starting pitching has to keep going like it has. I'm still leery of Pelfrey and he's been showing cracks in his last couple of starts. Hughes, Milone, and Gibson have all been consistent on the good side. If the starters can consistently get into the 7th inning and beyond then they don't have to resort to the question marks in the bullpen. Hitting-wise, they need more production out of Santana and they have to hope that Buxton starts hitting more or at least get on base when he comes back. Set the table at the top for Dozier and Plouffe and Mauer to get them around. Twins have been very good with RISP this year and that obviously needs to continue. I'm looking forward to this 2nd half...something I haven't said in 5 years. If we can get to the 40 games to go mark still in firm WC position with a chance to win the division, it'll be a very fun last month of the season.
  20. I was having a discussion about this year's Twins with a Cardinals fan yesterday and in the midst of that chat, I came up with this notion. Call me crazy if you wish... Coming into this season, the Twins had 4 straight losing seasons. 2001, they were coming off 8 straight losing seasons. In both seasons, there were young players in the pipeline who were starting to knock on the door to get to the big club (this year -- Sano & Buxton, 2001 -- Cuddyer and Morneau...to an extent). Both years, zero expectations. Hell, we were just hoping not to get contracted in 2001. But that team had the building blocks with AJ, Mientkiewicz, Hunter, Koskie, Jacque. This year's team has the potential building blocks of Mauer, Dozier, Plouffe, and Hunter 2.0. Both teams have pitching staffs anchored by a veteran (Radke/Hughes) followed by potentially good youngsters (Mays Milton/Gibson Milone...ok Milone is a stretch). However, 2001's bullpen was much better than this one. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that to me, there are a number of parallels between this team and it's current success and the 2001's team that turned baseball on its ear for a few months. As long as this year's team can continue to make strides and stay away from another long stretch of losing like we saw at the beginning of June, I think it can lead to success for next season and beyond just like how 2001 laid the foundation for the success of that decade.
  21. I like the Twins being aggressive in bringing up the kids that are supposed to be the cornerstones to the future of the franchise. Might as well give them a look at what they're going to be facing if they've done all they can do at the minor league level. I'm still concerned that the learning curve is a bit too much on a fast track but maybe that's me still having reservations from what they did with Hicks. We'll see. Definitely be worth tuning in tomorrow night to see how Sano starts out.
  22. I know this thread is created in jest but this is what I was afraid of when they called him up. I know he's been crushing AA pitching but he just doesn't look right at the plate quite yet...like he's almost constantly overmatched. To think it will be a Hicks situation is unlikely but I'm not sure how much longer Bux should be up.
  23. Can anyone on the left side of the infield catch the ball? Please??
  24. I always look at each series and hope for the 2 out of 3. Since the end of April, the Twins have been hitting that goal just about every time. I agree we need that extra bullpen help because I can't see Thompson and Boyer continuing to hold down the fort like they have. We've seen some really good RISP hitting this month, something all of us have become unaccustomed to in the past few years. Arcia coming back healthy and productive and Vargas getting his crap together would be very welcome. I know at some point, they're going to run into a slump but as of right now, just keep piling up those W's.
  25. Been a week or so since I've been on the forum. Perused it tonight and saw this thread. *BRAKES SCREECHING* Whoa, people, slow down!! Why are we trying to 'rush' Sano to the big leagues? Yeah, the kid (and Buxton too, but he's not the subject of this thread) is likely a stud but he's still a year removed from not playing at all because of that elbow. Let him go through the minor league progression and honestly, with the way the Twins are going right now, they don't have a need to rush Sano (and Buxton). This could be the best thing for their development. I'm going to loosely use Hicks as an example. We know he's not the caliber of Sano but at the time of him being thrust into the opening day lineup, I think he was starting to become that guy. If the Twins hold on to Span and/or Revere, Hicks gets the chance to continue up the ranks and there's no major league pressure for him to perform. Instead, they trade away BOTH and Hicks has to be the opening day CF. And we saw what happened there. And we've seen what happened since. I would hope that the injury to Sano combined with Plouffe's production and the Twins current record would mean they'd be happy with letting Sano continue to work out his game. So let's coooooool the jets on this Sano to the majors talk...for now.
